One of Dai's customers is complaining
Dai is on the phone to one of his customers, protesting that he cannot come over this afternoon;  “Look, I’ll call you back – I promise!”
"Nefi wen!   That guy is driving me nuts!"
As soon as he has put the phone down, he exclaims, “Nefi wen!   That guy is driving me nuts!”
"Well, he has been waiting for weeks!"
Diane points so that he has been waiting for Dai to do his extension for weeks, but Dai maintains that it is no excuse for phoning him all the time to remind him.
"We have to try and stay on top of all this work"
“We have to try to stay on top of all this work,” she tells him,
Sara walks in on this argument
as Sara comes into the shop, “You’ve never refused work just because you’re busy.”   He reminds her of the mess that he is in, then Sara asks if Jason is there.
“The Scarlet Pimpernel?   What do you think?” Dai snarls, and walks away;  Diane says that Jason will not be in until this afternoon, and Sara is sorry that there is so much work to do.
"Why don't I cook you something special tonight?"
“Why don’t I cook you something special tonight?” she suggests, “We’ll go out so you can have the house to yourselves.”
"I don't want you to make a fuss"
Diane does not want her to make a fuss, but Sara says it would be nice to go out for a change;  “Especially after last week!”   Diane admits that she should not have said anything.
"Ffion's not a problem"
“Jason and I understand each other – and Ffion’s not a problem,” Sara assures her, and then Dai comes back.   When Diane tries to show him a video of DJ and Sioned singing at the Fayre,
"I don't have time for that rubbish!"
he replies he does not have time for that rubbish.
"The delivery is here, Dai!"
Then Mathew shouts to him that the delivery has arrived, and, grumbling all the while, Dai goes to attend to it.
Sara looks at the video
When Sara looks at the video,
"No wonder he's so happy in the shop flat!"
she comments, “See the way he’s looking at her – no wonder he is so happy in the shop flat!”
"You said it would be a bit cold – not flipping freezing!"
At the hospital, the scanner is applied to Kelly’s stomach, and she gasps, “You said it would be a bit cold – not flipping freezing!   Don’t press too hard, because I’m desperate for the toilet!”
"Try to relax, Kel"
Ed encourages her to relax, and she says that he is worse than she is;
The rather indistinct image of their child
they see on the screen the image of their baby,
"Everything looks great!"
and the midwife assures them that everything looks great.   Kelly is ecstatic.
"You look very close in that video!"
At Awyr Iach, Sara remarks, “I heard your duet with Sioned went down a storm – you look very close in that video going around!”
"We're just mates, that's all"
DJ answers that they are mates and that is all, but she says it is obvious that he fancies Sioned, and advises him to be careful.
"What's that supposed to mean?"
“What’s that supposed to mean?” he demands, and is told that Sioned is fragile, after what she has been through.   “Exactly – Sioned has been through a lot, and she’s been brave enough to deal with that!” he exclaims.
Now it is Sara's turn to be offended
Sara takes this remark personally, suspecting that he is accusing her of not being brave enough to deal with her situation;
"It takes guts to move on after an accident like that"
he insists he only meant that it takes guts to move on after an accident like hers.   Sara agrees that they are all trying to move on, but it is not always that easy.
"Hi, baby!"
Ed is in raptures as he looks at the scan of their baby, and Kelly says, “Hi, baby!”   When asked if she would like a copy of the scan, she replies, “Yes, please –
"What I really need now is the toilet!"
“but what I really need now, ASAP, is the toilet!   I took the advice about having a full bladder really seriously – I’ve been bursting since leaving the house!”
Ed is highly delighted . . .
When she has hurried away, Ed apologises for his nerves earlier, and a broad smile appears on his face
. . . by the photos of his son or daughter
as he looks at the photos of the baby.
"Where do you think you're going?"
At APD, Mathew is about to take his lunchbreak when Dai says, “Where do you think you’re going?”   Mathew replies that he is going for lunch because it is one o’clock, and he will sort out the delivery afterwards.
"Since when does lunch come before work at APD?"
“Since when does lunch come before work at APD?” Dai demands.
Mathew points out that he is entitled to an hour;  “That’s what it says in the new contract.”   Dai insists that the only clause he included was a gagging order to stop Mathew lying on social media.   Jason comes in with Dai’s cup of tea,
Jason is sent to search for biscuits
and is asked if they have biscuits.
"If you think I'm going to sign that, you can get stuffed!"
Dai puts on his glasses and looks at the contract;  “Redundancy notice?   Holiday pay?   If you think I’m going to sign that, you can get stuffed!”
"Jason has already signed it"
Mathew is not expecting him to sign anything, as Jason has already done so.
Jason returns with biscuits,
"You have no right!"
and Dai shouts, “You haven’t signed that?   You have no right!” but it is pointed out that Jason is a partner in APD –
"I can sign whatever I like, Dai!"
he can sign up whatever he likes.   Even more angry, Dai rants, “You’ve signed something without reading it!”
"I just saw the bit about the gagging order"
Jason answers that he saw the bit about the gagging order and thought it was the same.
“Do you know what, Jason?   You’ve given me numerous headaches lately, but this takes the biscuit!   You’ve been tricked by this idiot!”
"They are my fundamental rights!"
Mathew insists that these are his fundamental rights, so Dai orders him, “Go for lunch and come back within an hour on the dot, do you hear?”
"You know what?   I'm too tired!"
Then he turns to Jason;  “I should give you a mouthful – but, you know what, I’m too tired –
"Just get out of my sight!"
“I’ve lost my energy – just get out of my sight!”
"I'm shattered, Ed"
Kelly is shattered when they return to the café flat, and Ed says they will have to build a bookshelf for all the baby books.
They have plenty of reading matter about babies
She concedes that perhaps they have gone a bit over the top, and probably could have got the information online.
"You're going to be an amazing father!"
“You’re going to be an amazing father!” she tells him, as he looks in one of the books.
"The foetus is about an inch and a half long"
“An 11-week-old foetus, the same size as a fig, apparently – an inch and a half, he reads, and Kelly is amazed how tiny that is.   “The hands will start to open and close as fists before long, and some bones begin to harden,” he continues.
"That's happening inside me, like"
“It’s weird to think that’s happening inside me, like,” ponders Kelly, and then her phone sounds;
"Sara is inviting us for a meal tonight"
“It’s Sara, asking if we want to go for a meal with her, Jason and Ifan tonight.”
"It will be nice to mark the occasion"
Ed says that it will be nice to mark the occasion –
"We have a lot to celebrate!"
they have a lot to celebrate, and they kiss.
"Beef Bourguinon . . ."
At Bryntirion, Sara has prepared Beef Bourguinon for Dai and Diane;
". . . followed by apple tart and cream"
“There’s an apple tart in the oven and cream in the fridge,” she tells Diane, who hopes that Dai appreciates all this work.
"Dai's been under a cloud lately"
“He’s been under a cloud lately,” she says, and Sara informs her that Jason has upset him.   “That’s the thing, it’s so easy to upset him these days – I’d like to know what’s wrong,” Diane worries.
"Someone is in a hurry to leave before Dai comes home"
Jason comes in, with Ifan, and Sara suspects, “I’d say that someone is in a hurry to leave before Dai gets home.”   Diane hopes that he is not angry with her, but he replies that he is used to her interfering.
"You enjoy yourselves!"
Diane hopes are that they enjoy themselves, adding that she will, but is not sure about Dai.
DJ comes over to APD
He is at that moment preparing to close up APD, and DJ comes over to see him;
"You're still talking to me, then?"
“Hello, stranger – you’re still talking to me then?” Dai grunts, “I haven’t seen you for ages – I’ve been too busy to do anything – I have to do all the work as usual!
"Come over for some food tonight"
“Do you fancy coming over for some food?   Tonight, perhaps?”
DJ has arranged to have a pint with Mathew in the Deri tonight, which disappoints Dai.
The fruit machine attracts Jason's attention
At their meal in the Bull, Jason is seated so that he can see the nearby fruit machine;
"I thought I was looking at an alien!"
Kelly relates her visit to the hospital for the scan, saying that she was really nervous.   She squeals, “When I first saw it, I thought I was looking at an alien,
She passes round the scan photo
“but it’s so clear – you can see the features and everything!   I know it’s really boring when people talk about their babies.”
Sara recalls how special it was seeing Ifan for the first time,
"Look, their little baby!"
and she shows Kelly’s photo to Ifan;  “Look, Ed’s and Kelly’s little baby!”   Ed comments that it looks as if someone is getting broody, and Kelly wonders if they are thinking about another baby.
"Ifan would make a fantastic big brother!"
“Ifan would make a fantastic big brother,” she says,
He does  not seem very bothered
but he looks completely disinterested.
"No danger of that at the moment"
Jason predicts that there is no danger of that at the moment, and Sara agrees, but in the future it may be possible.
"We are planning to move out of Bryntirion before long
She explains, “We are planning to move out of Bryntirion before long and have a home of our own – then perhaps we can think about having another baby.”   Jason gets up to visit the toilet,
Jason cannot resist pushing a couple of buttons . . .
and on his way taps some of the buttons on the fruit machine as he passes;
. . . which does not go unnoticed
Sara notices this.
A game of darts at the Deri
As they play a game of darts,
"What happened after I went to bed?"
Mathew asks what happened betweeen DJ and Sioned after he went to bed;  “Has the duet lit a spark between you?   Come on, tell me what happened.”
"Nothing happened"
He is told that nothing happened;  “So you’re no nearer a date with her?” Mathew continues.
"A date has been organised"
On the contrary, DJ reveals, “A date has been organised – Sioned has agreed – when I come back from the toilet, I want a full pint waiting for me!”
Mathew is dubious about this. . .
Mathew immediately gets out his phone to send Sioned a text;
. . . and checks with Sioned
“Are you and DJ going on a date?”
The machine exerts a fascination for Jason
At the bar, Jason still seems mesmerised by the fruit machine, and Sara asks if he is all right, and whether he wants to swap places with her so he does not have to look at the machine.   He assures her that he can handle it, and then they go back to the table.
"You were a good boy, eating all your food"
He gives Ifan some fizzy pop;  “Because you were a good boy, eating all your food!”
"Jason's had a difficult time recently"
They drink a toast to the future, but Sara looks rather tearful, saying she is very proud of Jason, who has had a very difficult time recently.
Ed is concerned
Ed does not understand, and can see that something is wrong;
Kelly explains to him
Kelly explains, “He’s got a gambling problem – Sara, it was going to come out sooner or later.”
"You promised you wouldn't tell anyone"
“You promised you wouldn’t tell anyone,” Sara complains,
"You promised the same thing, Sara"
and Jason reminds her that she promised the same thing, but she replies that she had to tell someone.   Jason urges her not to be upset about it,
Kelly attempts to steer the conversation to chips"
and Kelly tries to change the subject;  “Does anyone want more chips?”
"We played poker on my stag night!"
“We played poker on my stag night – I had no idea, Jason,” Ed apologises, and Jason is surprised that he has not heard it from someone else in the village –
"Even Megan knows about my problem"
even Megan knows about his gambling problem.   Sara promises that she has not told anyone else, and they all declare that it will not go any further.
"I really need to go to bed"
“Tonight has been lovely, but I really need to go to bed,” Kelly tells them, and she prepares to leave,
"I insist – this is our treat!"
as Ed insists on paying for the meal, as Jason and Sara have plenty of costs ahead of them.
"They've made us feel poor and desperate!"
Sara complains that Ed and Kelly have made them feel poor and desperate, and how stuck they are.
"Right, where's my pint, then?"
In the Deri, DJ returns from the toilet, but there is no pint waiting for him;
"Sioned said the date is not until next year"
“Sioned said the date isn’t until next year,”
DJ still insists he has won the bet
but DJ points out that the bet was to get her to come out on a date with him, so he has won.   Mathew agrees in that case he will buy DJ a pint – of water!
Their sumptuous dinner has not cheered Dai
After their dinner, Dai is still in a disheartened state;
"There's something else worrying you, isn't there?'
“I know we’ve been through a difficult time with Jason and all the work at APD, but there’s something else worrying you, isn’t there?” asks Diane, “What is it, Dai?”
"Things aren't the same at home, are they?"
“Things aren’t the same at home, are they?” is his answer.   She wonders if it is the strain of having Jason and Sara there,
"Things haven't been the same since he left"
but he goes on, “Things haven’t been the same since he left,” and she realises that he is missing DJ, something which she is feeling, too.
“He might need the company of his friends now because a little bird told me that he has his eye on someone in the village,” she says,
"A 'woman magnet', like his father!"
and Dai boasts that he is taking after his father – a ‘woman magnet’.
However, when informed that the woman in question is Sioned,
"Crikey Moses!"
he groans, “Crikey Moses!   Everyone knows what she’s like – trouble follows her around!”
Jason, Sara and Ifan are back
Just then Jason and Sara return, saying that they enjoyed their meal;  “I bet your food wasn’t as good as ours,” Diane remarks, “We’re lucky that you’re staying here.”
"Sorry, Mam"
Sara decides that she is going to bed, and is followed by Jason.
Kelly has acute indigestion
“The food was lush, but I’ve got massive indigestion now,” moans Kelly;
"It's your hormone levels"
Ed understands that it is common when pregnant, because of the change in her hormone levels.   “Oh, Dr Charles has been reading up on it, has he?” she asks, and he says he will make her some peppermint tea.
"Thast talk about gambling was a bit intense"
“That talk about gambling was a bit intense,” she adds,
Ed feels very sorry for them
and Ed feels very sorry for them.   “They must be a very solid family to get through that,” she says.   Ed cannot wait for them to be a family,
"You're proper soppy tonight!"
and she describes him as, “Proper soppy tonight!”
“I never thought I’d feel like this, I’m so happy,” he tells Kelly, and she replies that he deserves it;  “Everything’s so perfect, I’m afraid something will ruin it.”
"Everything's going to be perfect!"
Kelly takes his hand;  “Trust me, OK?   Nothing is going to ruin it because everything’s going to be perfect.”
She places his hand on the unborn child
She places his hand upon her stomach.
