Hywel's car arrives back in Cwmderi
Hywels car drives back into the village,
Iolo is just leaving the house
and it is noticed by Iolo, who is heading across to the shop for provisions.
"Hiya, Iolo!"
Eifion and Izzy emerge from the shop with some items for their proposed party at Llwyncelyn;  then they also become aware of the car.
"I thought your mother and Hywel were away until tomorrow!"
“I thought your mother and Hywel were away until tomorrow,” says Eifion, and Izzy agrees that they were supposed to be;  she proposes that they get back to Llwyncelyn as a matter of urgency.
The constabulary have arrived in the village, again
As Hywel and Gaynor unload the car outside Hywel’s house, a police car arrives at the Deri, and two officers go into the pub;  Gaynor takes an interest in this.
"I'm going to text Iolo"
Inside, in the flat, Dani protests that she cannot stomach any more turkey curry, and Tyler suggests he is going to text Iolo, to see if he would like to meet;  “He’s had the weekend to cool down now, hasn’t he?”   There is the sound of footsteps on the stairs,
"The police are here – to charge him!"
and Garry announces that the police are here, to charge Tyler.
"I'll go with you, Ty!"
Dani wants to go with him but he refuses;  “Let the police do their work!” advises Garry,
Tyler leaves, under escort
and Tyler goes with them.   Dani demands if Garry is happy now that he has got what he wanted.
Tyler is led to the police car . . .
As Tyler comes out of the Deri,
. . . as Iolo watches from the door of the shop
Iolo is watching from the doorway of the shop, as is Gaynor, outside Hywel’s house next door.
Britt also watches the proceedings
Other villagers, including Britt, are taking an interest, as he is loaded into the car and it is driven away.
Gaynor has to find out what it is all about
Gaynor goes straight into the Deri to find out what is going on.
"Has something happened over the weekend?"
“Has something happened over the weekend?” she asks Dani, “Has he been in a fight or something?
"I have a right to know"
“Dani, I have a right to know – he’s a deputy head at the school.”
"Abuse of a position of trust, probably"
There is no reply from Dani, so Garry informs her, “The police are going to charge him – for abuse of a position of trust, probably.”   Gaynor assumes that this is something to do with Aled, and is further enlightened, “Tyler says they didn’t sleep together until he stopped being Aled’s teacher.”
The news horrifies Gaynor
She looks horrified.
Iolo is compulsively cleaning again
Iolo is at home, obsessively cleaning everything, when there is a knock at the door;  he is initially reluctant to answer it, but when he does so, he finds that it is Britt.   “Did they have to park on the High Street?” he demands,
"Everyone knows now, and you'll have to get used to it"
and Britt confirms that everyone knows now;  he needs to get used to that, but his main concern must be himself and Greta.
"This mess is Tyler's problem!"
“This mess is Tyler’s problem!” she insists,
"Why am I still worried about him, then?"
but Iolo wonders why he is still worried about him.   “That’s only natural, isn’t it, love?   But as I said, you need to stay away from him now – give yourself some space –
"What he's done to you is unforgivable!"
“because what he’s done to you is unforgivable, Iolo!   You need to take care of yourself.”
Eifion tries to restore order in Llwyncelyn
At Llwyncelyn, Eifion is trying to replace the furniture in its usual position, and comments to Izzy, “Imagine if your mother had landed in the middle of the party!”
Another cup meets its Waterloo
He puts the glasses back where they belong, and in the process smashes a cup.
Izzy protests, “That was one of Mam’s favourite cups!   She got them from Auntie Verity before she died!”
"Don't suppose we can glue it back together?"
He rather doubtfully suggests that they could glue it back together.
Tyler was not long at the police station
Meanwhile, in the Deri, Hywel has just brought Gaynor a drink when Tyler walks in,
"I'm out on bail"
and all eyes turn in his direction;  “I’m out on bail,” he tells Dani, “Aled is sticking to his lies – and I’ve got a court date.   I’m going upstairs –
"I can't stand everybody looking at me"
“I can’t stand everybody looking at me.”
"I must go and talk to him"
Gaynor insists that she must go and talk to him, but Hywel urges her to give him a few minutes;  “I have a duty to be aware of the latest developments,” she reprimands him.
Here comes trouble!
Just at that moment, who should come into the Deri but Angharad;  she gravitates towards Hywel,
"I saw you at the soup kitchen"
and he takes a few seconds to recognise her.   She has bought a late Christmas present for Gaynor, and he offers to buy her a drink;
Hywel is pleased that another woman has presented herself to him
“Any friend of Gaynor’s is a friend of mine!” he says.
"You denied that you'd even kissed!"
Upstairs, Gaynor exclaims, “You denied that you’d even kissed!” and he confesses that he should have been honest about that.   She continues that he withheld evidence during the investigation,
"I'm really sorry, Gaynor!"
and he professes that he is really sorry.
"The only thing you can do now is resign!"
Gaynor says, “You’ve had your chance, Tyler!   The only thing you can do now is resign.”   He argues that there has not been a trial yet – and he wants to prove that he is innocent.
“Innocent of what, exactly?” she rages, “You abused your power – you slept with a pupil!”   He understands that she does not want him to carry on as deputy head,
"I can still continue with my job"
but maintains he can continue with his job in the department until they make a decision in court.
"You're not fit to be a teacher!"
“After what you’ve done, you’re not fit to be a teacher!” she snarls, and walks out.
"Gaynor's out of sight for five minutes!"
Hywel and Angharad are chatting like old friends when Eifion and Izzy come into the Deri;  “Gaynor’s out of sight for five minutes!” jokes Eifion, and they are introduced to Angharad.
"You look much younger than Gaynor"
Eifion remarks that she looks much younger than Gaynor.
When she comes downstairs, Gaynor is not particularly keen to join them,
"What are you all having to drink?"
but Angharad asks what Izzy and Eifion want to drink (presumably paid for by Hywel).
"Come one, Iolo – hold your head up high"
The next people to enter the Deri are Britt and Iolo;  she advises him to hold his head up high,
"He's upstairs"
and he asks if Tyler is back, and insists that he has to do this.
Garry remarks to Britt, “Tyler doesn’t regret it at all,” and then Hywel comes over,
"What's with the police, then?"
enquiring about the police presence;  he is told by Britt that it is none of his business, but he insists that an affair with a pupil is everyone’s business.
As Angharad is listening just along the bar,
"Says the man who had an affair with Stacey – and with Rhys' mother!"
Britt remarks, “Says the man who had an affair with Stacey – and with Rhys’ mother!” but he insists that those situations were different.
Tyler announces he is on bail
When Iolo come in, Tyler reports that he is out on bail, and that Aled is still sticking to his version of what happened.   “Even if you can’t forgive me at the moment,
"It's important you believe me, not Aled"
“it’s important to me that you believe me, and not Aled, about when . . .”
"It doesn't matter when it happened!"
Iolo bursts out, “It doesn’t matter when it happened!”   Tyler goes on how concerned he is about how Iolo is feeling now that it is public knowledge, but is told, “It’s not just that!”
"I went to the police because I love you"
Tyler continues that he went to the police because he loves Iolo, but Iolo shakes his head;
"Love isn't enough this time!"
“There’s nothing you can say – love isn’t going to be enough this time!
"Right, I'm going!"
“Right, I’m going!” and despite Tyler’s protestations, he does so.
"You know I don't trust her!"
“Why did you buy her a drink?   You know I don’t trust her!” moans Gaynor, but Hywel is convinced that Angharad is totally harmless.
"Why have you been hiding such a cool college friend?"
Izzy wonders why her mother has been hiding such a cool college friend, and Angharad recalls that they had a lot of fun in college – particularly that trip to Tregaron in ’88.
"Christmas present for you, Gaynor"
Then she hands over the gift to Gaynor,
"Malbec – how nice"
which is a bottle of Malbec.
Iolo makes a rapid exit from the Deri
When Iolo comes downstairs, he does not say anything but immediately leaves the Deri.   Dani rushes upstairs to Tyler.
"Why don't we have some drinks at Llwyncelyn ?"
Izzy complains that there is not much atmosphere at the Deri tonight, and suggests that they have some drinks at Llwyncelyn,
Gaynor does not look happy about this
much to the annoyance of her mother.
Angharad has to contact Jeremy, her husband, first;  “He’ll been wondering where I am.”
"I didn't know you were married"
Gaynor cannot believe that she is married, and is not looking forward to her being back at Llwyncelyn.
"He's given up on me, Dan'  (and who can blame him?)
Tyler glumly remarks to Dani, “He’s given up on me, hasn’t he, Dan?” but she tries to persuade him that is not the case.
Dani tries to make her implausible argument sound convincing
“Iolo asked you to go to the police, so that there was hope for you,” she argues.   Tyler has never seen him like this before, so angry,
"He'll come round – just give him time"
but she predicts that he will come round, and encourages him to be more optimistic, insisting that he needs to be patient.
"There's no time when it comes to Gaynor"
“Time is the answer – but there is no time when it comes to Gaynor – you need to write a letter of resignation,” she continues, “Everyone knows you’re a good teacher.”   (Surely that must now be in serious doubt)
He is instructed to take that letter to Gaynor
“But you have to do the right thing now – and taking that letter to Gaynor today is the right thing.
"Show that you're taking responsibility"
“Show you’re taking responsibility – it will help your reputation in the end.”
"And if Iolo sees I'm doing the right thing . . ."
Tyler hopes that it will help their relationship, if Iolo sees that he is trying to do the right thing.”
Izzy supplies everyone with drinks
Izzy is serving drinks at Llwyncelyn while Gaynor looks at something which came in the post,
Has Gaynor received bad news about her application?
and she explains that it is Justice of the Peace business.
"It's Gaynor Llywelyn, JP now, is it?"
Angharad excitedly asks, “It’s Gaynor Llywelyn, JP now, is it?   We should have a toast!” but Gaynor says they have misunderstood.
"You see, Mam, we planned this party"
Then there is a knock at the door, and it is Mathew, who had not heard that the party was cancelled, and Izzy has to explain to her mother what they had planned.
"I've driven all the way back from Aber"
Mathew is rather irked, having driven all the way back from Aber.
"Well, it is the season of celebration"
Gaynor resigns herself to having a party, sighing that it is the season of celebration, after all.
"Er . . . I broke one of Auntie Valmai's cups"
Eifion confesses that he broke one of Auntie Valmai’s cups when he was tidying up earlier;  “Are you intending to replace it?” he is asked,
"The antique shop in Narberth has one for £200"
“There’s one in the antique shop in Narberth – it’s £200.”
"It's like Piccadilly Circus in here!"
Someone else knocks on the door, and Angharad comments that it is like Piccadilly Circus.   Izzy opens it to find Tyler there;  “Why the long face?” Eifion asks him.
"I've brought my letter of resignation"
Tyler has brought his letter of resignation, and Gaynor hustles him into another room.
"Are you going to help with with serving, Dan?"
In the Deri flat, Garry demands if Dani is going to help him serving downstairs;
"He's been a long time at Llwyncelyn"
she is concerned that Tyler has been at Llwyncelyn a long time, but Garry is of the opinion that it is time he moved out.
"He's just lost his job, Gar"
“He can stay as long as he wants – he’s just lost his job!” Dani emphasises.
"And whose fault is that?"
“And whose fault is that?” Garry replies, “I have no sympathy for him – and you’re not helping, mollycoddling him!   A couple more days and that’s it it!”
"If you're not happy with that, go and stay with Britt!"
Dani angrily informs him, “Tyler can stay as long as he needs to – and we’ll make him feel welcome.   If you’re not happy with that, go and stay with Britt!”
The animosity between them continues
He returns to the bar.
"Fish and chips – the job does have its perks"
Britt has taken some food to Iolo;  “Chips – and fish of course – the job does have some perks,” she says.   The door opens, and Tyler comes in;
"You've got a cheek!"  (How did he get in, anyway?)
“You’ve got a cheek!” snarls Britt, but Iolo assures her that it is all right,
"I'll ring you later, Iolo – right?"
so she leaves.
"Do you want to meet up at the end of the week?"
Tyler begins, “I’ve handed in my letter of resignation to Gaynor – look Iol, I understand – you’re going to need time, and things won’t go back to normal straightaway.   Do you want to meet up at the end of the week?   For coffee?”
"No, I don't think so"
Iolo does not think so, so Tyler suggests next week, but Iolo does not want to do that.
"You said there was hope if I went to the police"
“You said there was hope if I went to the police,” Tyler whines.
"No, I did not!   I told you to do the right thing"
“No, I did not!” is Iolo’s response, “You’re putting words in my mouth now – I told you to do the right thing.”
Iolo is not such a 'pushover' as expected
This is not what Tyler had been naïvely expecting to happen.
"I texted her – but she didn't reply"
At Llwyncelyn, Mathew informs Izzy that he texted Tesni while he was away, but she did not reply;  “She’s playing it cool – she definitely still likes you,” Izzy assures him, but he is not sure any more.
"I was hoping she would be here tonight"
He groans, “I was hoping she would be here tonight, because I said I was coming back.”
"Delyth had too many Christmas presents"
Angharad tells Gaynor that Delyth has had too many Christmas presents this year,
"And who's Delyth?"
but Gaynor does not know who Delyth is.   “She’s my daughter,” Angharad announces, and it is explained that Jeremy got a job in Glasgow, then things did not work out for them, so he left and took Delyth with him.
"The three of us are back together now!"
“But, thank goodness, the three of us are back together now – and living in Cwrtmynach,” she adds, “And I’ve never been so happy!”   Gaynor fears that she is going to keep seeing Angharad.
"To be honest, I want to ask you a favour"
“To be honest, I wanted to ask you a favour – we’d like Delyth to start in the school with Lois in January, but we’ve left it too late to apply.   I would hate to have to send her to the English school.”
"I'll see if I can arrange something"
Gaynor points out there is a process which has to be followed, but she will try her best to arrange something.
"Gaynor, you're a friend for life!"
“Gaynor, you’re a friend for life!” Angharad gushes,
Gaynor does not like this much
and hugs her, leaving Gaynor rather disconcerted.
"The OCD is back, isn't it?"
Tyler is still trying to change Iolo’s mind;  “It doesn’t matter what you or I said last week, OK?   The OCD isn’t back, is it?”
"I'm fine, Tyler"
Iolo rages that he is fine, but Tyler protests that he is worried;
"We still love each other"
“I’m happy to wait for however long you need to talk, because, as I said this morning, we still love each other.”
"It will never be the right time – so go home!"
Iolo makes it perfectly clear that it is never going to be the right time;  “So you’d better go home!”
"This is my home – with you and Greta"
Tyler is quite adamant that this is his home - with Iolo and Greta.
“I’m trying here, Iol!” he exclaims,
"Well, stop trying!   It's over, Tyler!"
and is told to stop, because their relationship is over, but Tyler will not accept that
"I'm going to wait for Greta"
Iolo emphasises that he means it, so Tyler sits down, determined to wait for Greta.   “She’s in Y Felin with Dad – she won’t be back for a while,” Iolo tells him, “I don’t want you here – Greta doesn’t want you here!”
"She deserves to see her father!"
“You can’t say that – she’s a little girl and she deserves to see her father!” Tyler roars,
"She sees her father every day – she doesn't need another one!"
but is told that she sees her father every day – and that she does not need another one.
