Jaclyn's nerves are all shot to pieces
Jaclyn has been cooking, and when Gerwyn comes into the house, she is startled and drops the baking tray and its contents;  she says that she has been rushing and is tired.
"Let's just have a quiet night in"
“Can we just take the food over and then have a quiet night in – just you and me?” she asks,
"We have to be there, Jac"
but he argues that they have to be at the party, as Garry is his boss, and assures her she will be fine once she is there.
He goes on, “It will be a chance to celebrate, now Tesni is home – life’s good!
"I've booked you a blowdry with Debbie"
“Leave this all to me, all right, because I’ve booked you a blow-dry with Debbie.”
"Why?   There's nothing wrong with my hair!"
“Why, Gerwyn?” she shouts, “There’s nothing wrong with my hair!”
"It was supposed to be a surprise"
and he points out it was supposed to be a surprise, urging her to go and get changed, while he sorts everything out.
Gerwyn picks up hot sausage rolls
He begins to retrieve the sausage rolls from the floor.
"Not quite straight, Garry"
Garry has rigged up a screen in the Deri, but Dani considers that it is not quite straight;  “I hope Hywel appreciates all this hassle!” he moans, but Dani smirks that she is sure it will be worth it.
"What's happening here, Dani?"
When Hywel comes in,
"We're showing some Christmas films"
they have to pretend that all this is simply so they can show some Christmas films;
"I've got to go – good luck!"
he turns and leaves them, wishing them luck with their new enterprise.   Garry is amused that Hywel is so easy to deceive.
Garry insists that he will help
“Right, you’ve done loads,” says Dani, wanting to get rid of Garry, but he insists on staying to help with the decorations;
Dani is forced to call for assistance
in desperation she makes a phone call.
Gaynor is making artistic preparations
Gaynor is painting a large number 50 when Hywel returns to Llwyncelyn, gloating that Garry has no idea what is planned,
"Garry doesn't like Rioja!"
and does not think that Garry likes Rioja.   “That’s not for him – it’s for you,” she informs him,
"I've booked us a hotel for Saturday night"
“And I’ve booked us a hotel for Saturday night, so we can celebrate your birthday properly –
"I'm one step closer to becoming a Justice of the Peace"
“and to celebrate that I’m one step closer to becoming a Justice of the Peace.   I’ve got a second interview!”
"It's an SOS from Dani"
Then her phone sounds, and he informs her that it is an SOS from Dani, so Gaynor puts down her paintbrush and looks at the message.
"Isn't it lovely?"
At Y Felin, Anita is showing baby Paul the Christmas tree, and remarks to Siôn that there is nothing like the smell of a baby.
"That last nappy was awful!"
“No, thank goodness!” he moans, “That last nappy was awful!”   He has not had much sleep, and points out that the baby was awake all night.
"He's in a strange place, isn't he?"
“He’s in a strange place, isn’t he?  No wonder he’s crying,” she replies, and he tells her that it is time for Paul to go back.
"You said you'd take him back first thing in the morning"
She had said he would be taken back first thing in the morning, and now it is almost teatime.
"I'm giving Kelly time to come to her senses, that's all!"
Anita insists, “I’m just giving Kelly time to come to her senses, that’s all!”
“She hasn’t been in touch with you – so it’s obvious that she’s missing him,” Siôn comments sarcastically, but Anita is confident that she will.
Despite first-class ingredients, Colin does not seem to be doing particularly well
At the chip shop flat, Colin is applying icing (made with Silver Spoon icing sugar) to the top of his cake, but finds that it is too runny.
"Garry's just stolen Brandon's chips!"
Britt is compiling a board of historical photos, and remarking that in one of them, taken in Barry,  Garry has just stolen Brandon’s chips;  “He got a black eye and everything.”
"Put it in the fridge, Col"
When Aaron comes in he advises Colin to put the cake in the fridge to set the icing;  “You’ve got nothing to lose, have you?”
"Uncle Garry in dungarees!"
Then he sees a picture of Uncle Garry in dungarees, and Britt remarks on how cute he is;  she cannot believe that her little brother is 50.
"That suits you, Mam"
The next photo he finds is of his mother, with frizzy hair, which was fashionable at the time, and says that it suits her.
"You should have your hair like that for the party"
“You should have it like that for the party,” he insists.
"Don't you touch me with those sticky hands!"
When Colin suggest that he could sort out her hair, she protests, “Don’t you touch me with those sticky hands!   Go and have a shower now!”   She looks again at the photo of herself.
"That's good, Gwern"
Gwyneth comes downstairs and compliments Gwern on the card he has made for his father;
"Are you coming to the party?"
“Are you coming to the party?” he asks her.   She answers that she has not been invited,
"It's not a good idea to turn up uninvited"
and it is not a good idea to turn up uninvited, not after last time.
"Please, Mam, I want you there!"
“Please, Mam, I want you there – I thought you and Dad were friends now – so come to the party, please!” he begs.   She will go and find an envelope for his masterpiece.
"You must be glad Tesni's back home"
At Maes-y-Deri, Debbie is doing Jaclyn’s hair, and remarks, “You must be glad that Tesni is back home – you never stop worrying about, them do you – 18 or not?”
Jaclyn has a lot on her mind
As Jaclyn is so quiet, Debbie wonders if she is OK, and thinks she knows the reason.
"There's a lot of mess in here, Debs"
At that moment Mark comes in, complaining about the mess, and then there is a knock at the front door;
Britt does not just want a blowdry
it is another customer for Debbie, in the form of Britt.   “Thanks for squeezing me in,” she says, and reveals that she does not want just a blowdry,
"I'll see what I can do"
but produces the picture.   Debbie will see what she can do for her.
"Birthday boy's here already, then?"
Garry is now distributing balloons around the Deri, as Iolo comes in, and comments to Dani, “Birthday boy’s here already, then?” but she tells him to be quiet.   Tyler is waiting for Anita come to babysit Greta and will be along later.
"Don't you think it would be better if he wasn't here?"
“Don’t you think it would be better if Garry wasn’t here?” he enquires, but she points out she has been trying to get rid of him, and he insists on staying to help.
"He's driving me nuts!"
“He’s driving me nuts!” Dani moans,
"Why is Garry here?"
and then Gerwyn arrives with some cakes, also wondering why Garry is there.
Gaynor has been tasked with getting Garry out of the Deri
Gaynor is the next to appear, with the excuse that she needs Garry to help her;  “Hywel is threatening to come over for a pint, and things are not ready yet –
"Can you take Hywel to Tapas, out of the way?"
“can you take him to Tapas, out of the way for me?”
Garry agrees to her request
This little subterfuge is successful, and Garry is told to bring him back by 5:30pm.
"There – job done, Dani"
Dani breathes a sigh of relief that her plan worked;  “I hope it will be worth it, because I feel like I’m 50!” she says.
Aled is causing trouble again
Iolo, at the bar, is looking at his phone, where a message has just arrived;  there is a photograph, with the caption, “Familiar?”   He looks with horror at it.
Iolo waits for the confrontation
It is not long before he is back at home, sitting at the kitchen table,
"Did Dani manage to keep the party a surprise?"
and when Tyler comes downstairs, asking when Anita will arrive, he says he does not know.   Tyler hopes that Dani has managed to keep the party a surprise, but Iolo argues,
"I'd say we have another surprise to worry about!"
“I’d say we’ve got another surprise to worry about,” slamming his phone down on the table and pointing to it.
"Are you going to tell me?"
“Are you going to tell me?” he demands.
"I haven't been completely honest"
Tyler looks at the photo and confesses, “I haven’t been completely honest.”
"Yes, I've already worked that out!"
The photo has made Iolo quite aware that,
"He was lying in our bed – but I threw him out straightaway!"
and Tyler explains, “I came home from school, went upstairs – and he was lying in our bed – but I threw him out straightaway!”
Iolo wants to know how he got in, and Tyler’s excuse is that the back door must have been unlocked;  “It wouldn’t be the first time – and I told the police that.”
"But you weren't honest from the start"
Iolo can see that he already knew about the photo, but did not tell him, neither was he honest from the start.
Tyler says that the explosion had just happened, and he did not want to upset Iolo, but this is obviously not believed.
"I'd never sleep with anyone else!"
“I’d never sleep with anyone else!” Tyler emphasises.
"You should have been honest with me!"
“You should have been honest!” shouts Iolo, but Tyler thought that if he just ignored Aled, he would go away.
"Nothing happened – I love you, Iol!"
He pleads with Iolo to believe him;  “I know how it looks – really, I do, but, hand on heart, nothing happened!   I love you Iol!” he goes on, “I wouldn’t do anything to hurt you!”
Iolo is by no means convinced
It is quite clear that Iolo does not believe him, but simply walks into the other room.
"She must be in the shower"
Anita and Siôn arrive at the café flat with baby Paul, but can find no sign of Kelly;  “She must be in the shower,” says Anita, and goes to check.
Siôn puts down Paul, and sees a piece of paper
Siôn finds a slip of paper,
"I don't think she's in the shower"
and calls to Anita that he does not think Kelly is in the shower.
"I think Gaynor has forgotten my birthday"
At Tapas, Hywel complains to Garry that he thinks Gaynor has forgotten his birthday.
"A weekend away somewhere, perhaps"
Garry is sure that she must have something planned;  “A weekend away somewhere, perhaps,” he suggests, and Hywel replies that if it is true, he has now spoiled the surprise.
"You're different to me – I hate surprises!"
“You’re different to me – I hate surprises!” Garry growls, and Hywel smiles, conspiratorially;
"You've been good to me, Hywel"
Garry continues, “You’ve been good to me – so a toast, ‘to friends’!”
Dani's message to Garry
Then both of their phones sound at the same time, Garry’s with a message from Dani,
Gaynor's message to Hywel
and Hywel’s with one from Gaynor, each with the same message;  to return to the Deri in a quarter of an hour.
"It's just a client"
Hywel gives the excuse that it was a client, and Garry says that his was from a car dealer;
"Might as well have another drink, then"
they agree to have another drink, and Garry will pay, as it is Hywel’s birthday.
"Come on, Kelly – answer!"
Anita is trying unsuccessfully to contact Kelly;
"You're wasting your time, you know!"
Siôn confidently informs her, “You’re wasting your time, you know – she’s not going to answer.”
"I can't look after Greta tonight"
Anita insists that she has to do something, and tells him to phone the boys, as she cannot look after Greta tonight, as she will have Paul to look after.
"I'll tell Iolo when I see him in the Deri"
“I’ll tell Iolo when I see him in the Deri later,” Siôn replies, and Anita is astonished that he is still going to the party.
"If you had respected Kelly's wishes . . ."
He warns, “If you had respected Kelly’s wishes, we wouldn’t be in this mess!   Perhaps we should phone social services.”   She is adamant that there is no need for that, as they are there now, but she cannot understand it.
"Why has she taken all the decorations down?"
“Why has she taken all the decorations down?” she sobs, and Siôn appreciates that she is trying to do what is best for Paul.
"There we go – I shall have to adopt him!"
“But there we go – I shall have to adopt him, won’t I?” she decides, “Come on, we’re going home.”
Siôn obediently picks up Paul
Siôn gives a sigh, and picks up Paul’s cradle to take him back to Y Felin.
Gwyneth hopes that Dani does not mind her being there, but that is what Gwern wanted;  “If Gwern’s happy, we’re happy!” is her reply.
Colin's cake looks much more respectable now
Colin arrives with his cake, commenting, “You were worried I couldn’t do it, weren’t you?” and he is told to put it down before he drops it.
Britt, with her new hairstyle, confirms that everything is now ready, and Dani goes off in search of party poppers.
"We;re lucky we haven't been found in the woods!"
Debbie asks Gwyneth, “How long do you think she’d been there – Jessie?   We’re both lucky that we haven’t been found in the woods!”
"It's over now, and we're safe"
Gwyneth is trying to forget about it, emphasising that it is all over, and now they are safe.
Gaynor is in charge
Gaynor instructs everyone to be in their places with their lettered cards;
Gwen and John Post are in the front row
as they line up in front of the bar,
Iolo suddenly notices a detail on the photo
Iolo is zooming into the photo on his phone, and discovers something.
Unfortunately this is a false alarm
The lights are turned off, and when the door opens, they all shout out –
Cassie has a surprise welcome
but unfortunately it is Cassie who enters;  Gerwyn remarks, “Wow – red hair suits you, Garry!”
"I'm the best judge of that, Cassie!'
Cassie wonders if this is a good idea, as Garry does not want a fuss, but Dani considers that she is the best judge of what Garry wants.
"Not now, Dad!"
The next one to come in is Siôn, who informs Iolo that they are unable to babysit;  “Not now!” Iolo replies, and hurriedly disappears out of the door.
"I've got a lovely single malt at the Deri – on the house!"
Meanwhile at Tapas, Hywel and Garry are still drinking, and think it is time to leave;  “I’ve got a lovely single malt in the Deri,” says Garry, “You’ll have it on the house, if you’re lucky!”
Hywel protests that Gaynor is waiting for him, and Garry smiles, “I heard that things were going well.
"It's not slippers and cocoa time just yet!"
“Come on, just a small one – I know you’re getting old, but it’s not slippers and cocoa time just yet!”
"Right – take two, everyone!"
After the false alarm, Gaynor has got it right this time, and everyone resumes their positions;  the lights are again turned off,
"Not another power cut!"
and when Garry  comes in, he moans, “Not another power cut!”
Hywel points out the joke is on him
When everyone shouts and applauds, he thinks it is all aimed at Hywel, but his attitude soon changes when he hears they are shouting, “Happy birthday, Garry!”
"You should have known better, Dani!"
He demands whose idea this was, and tells Dani that she should have known better.   He announces to the partygoers, “Sorry, I can’t do this!” and and walks out of the bar.
"What's the matter with you, Garry?"
At the bottom of the stairs, Dani demands what is the matter with him, and points out this was supposed to be a surprise;
"That's why we'll be away – to avoid this!"
“It was – and it isn’t even my birthday!” he rages.   She explains that is because they will be away;  “Yes – to avoid this!” he points out, “I don’t want a fuss, Dan.”
"Everyone has been working towards this, Garry!"
“Jaclyn’s done the buffet, Britt’s done something to her hair and Colin’s made the cake – I mean, Colin!” Dani continues,
"Well, tell them all to leave, then!"
but he is still adamant that he does not want a party, and instructs her to tell everyone to leave,
Off he goes upstairs
then storms off upstairs.
"How long have you been back?"
Iolo sits on the sofa, full of pent-up anger, as Tyler comes downstairs;  “How long have you been back?” Tyler asks, “Anita hasn’t arrived yet – shall I phone her?”
"Want me out of the way, so you can think up more lies?"
Iolo advises him that Anita is not coming, so Tyler wonders if he will be going back to the Deri.   “Why?” Iolo snarls, “Do you want me out of the way, so you can think up more lies?   This photo . . .”
"I should have told the police immediately!!"
Tyler points out they have been through this before;  “Aled is off his head, and I should have told the police immediately!”
"But you didn't!   Why?"
“But you didn’t!” says Iolo, “Why?   Do you know what, Tyler?
"You can zoom into everything!"
“Phones are fantastic these days – you can zoom into everything – and see everything!”
This looks ominous
Tyler appears be apprehensive about what is coming next.
"Now, if anything happened between you and Aled . . ."
“Now, if anything happened between you and Aled – anything – this is your chance to tell me,” says Iolo, but Tyler sticks resolutely to the same story, that he did not sleep with Aled.
"Our wedding rings . . ."
Iolo continues, “You know our wedding rings?   We always wear them, don’t we?
". . . you never take yours off"
“You never take yours off – even in the bath.”   Tyler says he is afraid of losing it.
"I can only think of one reason to take it off"
Iolo shows him the phone, enquiring, “What’s the ring doing by the side of the bed?” and there is no reply, so he concludes, “I can only think of one reason to take it off.”
Tyler says not a word
Once again Tyler remains silent,
"It's true, isn't it?   Aled is telling the truth!"
so Iolo realises, “It’s true – isn’t it?   Aled is telling the truth!”
