Jim has a surprise for Eileen . . .
Jim leads Eileen out of the farmhouse with her eyes closed, and she wonders what is going on;
. . . and leads her to the farmhouse garden . . .
they arrive in the garden and she discovers a huge Christmas display of reindeer, snowmen and other ornaments.
. . . which is decked with all kinds of Christmas decorations
Jim admits that he had some help from Eifion, and has been back and forth to Iori’s lock-up like a yo-yo.
“I wanted to give you a little surprise,” he says,
"Something to remember for ever"
“Something to remember for ever.”   Eileen is impressed and predicts that Huwi will love it;
Eileen gives him a hug
she gives Jim a hug.
Greta is very happy with her doll
At number 7, Iolo and Tyler, together with Greta, have discovered that Father Christmas has eaten his mince pie.   She has been given a doll, together with a lot of other things;  “Because you’ve been a good girl,” Tyler tells her,
Iolo is given a present . . .
and then presents Iolo with a gift,
. . . which he finds is a watch
which is a watch.
Coincidentally, that is also what Iolo has given him;
"Great minds think alike"
“Great minds think alike – it’s lovely,” says Tyler,
"I got the best present ever yesterday"
“In any case, I got the best present ever yesterday – thanks for making me talk to the police.”
"We don't have to worry about Aled any more"
Iolo is just glad that they do not have to worry about Aled any more.
Garry tries to interest Seren in her new kitchen . . .
In the Deri flat, Garry is trying to encourage Seren to play with her new kitchen,
. . . but she prefers the empty box
but she seems much more interested in the box;
"I almost killed myself, making this for her!"
“After I almost killed myself building this for her!” he moans,
Dani is happy that Seren is enjoying herself
while Dani and Gwern laugh.   “We might as well have given her an empty crisps box – a lot cheaper too!” he adds.
Gwern says his present is,"Awesome!"
Dani asks Gwern if he likes what he got;  he describes it as, “Awesome,”
"Come and have a game with me, Dad!"
and wants Garry to have a game with him, before he has to go over to his mother’s.
"I'll go and sort out the bar, Garry"
Dani agrees she will sort out the bar, as people will only be there for a couple of hours;  she tells Gwern to make sure that he beats his father.
They begin competing against each other . . .
They sit down with their handsets and begin the game,
. . . while Seren amuses herself on the floor
while Seren continues her adventures with the box.
"You wouldn't get better in the Glyndwr, Britt!"
In the chip shop flat, Colin pronounces Britt’s culinary efforts to be lovely;  “You wouldn’t get better in the Glyndwr,” he assures her,
"You've been up since four!"
“It’s perfect!   But it’s not surprising – you’ve been up since four!”
After last year, she wants it to be perfect
She recalls that after last Christmas with Neville was such a mess, it has to be perfect this year;   “I spoiled everything – I want to make up for that!”
Colin tells her to relax, and wants to know if there is anything he can do to help;  “Wouldn’t it has been easier to cook the whole lot in the Deri?” he asks,
"I know where everything is here, Col"
but she knows where everything is here, and it will not take long to carry it all over there.
"Let's have a break and open some presents"
Colin wants to have a break and open some presents;  “Now that Aaron has finished wrapping his – finally!”
"I want to open my presents at the Deri"
Aaron protests that they cannot open his presents until they get to the Deri, as he wants everyone to be there.
The carrots are boiling over
Then Britt panics that the carrots are boiling over.
The first customer on Christmas morning . . .
There is a knock at door of the Deri, and Garry opens the door to Mark, whom he thought might be the first one in,
. . . who is here for the free drink
and as such, qualifies for a free drink.   “Where’s Debbie?   It’s not like her to miss a freebie,” Garry comments, as Geraint and a couple of others come in.
"Debbie's moved out – we're incompatible!"
Mark replies that she has now moved out, as they were just not compatible;  Garry is sorry to hear that Mark will be on his own today, but he insists that he has got plans, then will have a night in watching the Gavin and Stacey Christmas special.
"Kelly and Paul have gone to Merthyr"
Siôn and Anita are the next arrivals, and Garry was surprised to hear that Kelly and Paul had gone to Merthyr,
"They'll be home soon"
but they will be home soon.
"We could pop over there to check"
Anita suggests, “We could pop over there to check everything’s all right,” but Siôn wants to stay in the Deri until lunchtime, as it will only be an hour.
"If we go, the day will be gone"
“If we go over to Merthyr, today will be gone,” he points out, and then Britt and Colin arrived with the first load of food.
"Were you a naughty boy again this year, Gar?"
Colin asks Garry if he got anything in his stocking, or whether he was a naughty boy again this year.
"I'm a saint – you know that, Colin"
Garry replies that he is a saint, as Colin knows very well.
They inform him that there is a lot more food to come, but Garry wonders why, as there are only six of them.   Britt corrects him that there are now nine, as Iolo and Tyler are coming, with Greta;  “Didn’t Dani tell you?”
Garry learns that Tyler is coming to dinner
Garry is not appreciative of this surprise, as they take the food to the kitchen.
"Why didn't you tell me, Dan?"
He finds Dani and asks, “Why didn’t you tell me that Iolo and Tyler are coming for lunch?”
"I didn't know how you would react"
She admits that she did not know how he would react, and pleads with him not to spoil today.   He says, without much feeling, that it will be nice to have the family over.
"Are you sure you're OK with Tyler coming?"
“Are you sure you’re OK with Tyler coming?   I don’t want any stress,” she continues, and he replies that he does not want any stress either.
Jim briefs Sioned on the camera's workings
Sioned is at Penrhewl, and Jim gets her to take a photo of him and Eileen;
"As long as it takes photos"
“A camera is a camera – as long as it takes photos,” he says, and after the photo is taken,
"Dai's snowman – and the size of its carrot"
makes some ribald remark to Eileen about Dai’s snowman  – and the size of its carrot.
"You've turned into a right poser!"
“You’ve turned into a real poser – do you know that?’ remarks Sioned, “I just can’t believe how much trouble you’ve gone to,”
"I wanted to do something special for Huwi"
and Jim maintains that he wanted to do something special for Huwi;  he was too young last year.   Sioned says that he is also too young this year, and takes just one more picture.
"I couldn't speak to Bobi and Arthur"
Eifion arrives, and is rather disappointed that he has not been able to speak to Bobi and Arthur, who had gone to show their presents to the neighbours.
"You really miss the boys, don't you?"
“You really miss the boys, don’t you?” sympathises Sioned, “Especially today.”
"I miss them every day"
He says that he misses them every day.
"Good for you, feeding the homeless on Christmas Day"
Siôn admires Hywel for feeding the homeless on Christmas Day, and is told that Gaynor was up, cooking all night;  “We’ll take a couple of photos for the next edition of Cwm Ni,” Hywel promises.
"She's been up since five, playing with Bella"
Then Iolo and Tyler come in, with Greta and her doll, Bella;  they have been up since five, playing with her.
"If you were having lunch at Y Felin . . ."
Anita makes sure to get in her comment, “If you were having lunch with us, I would have played with her all afternoon.”
"The police are stopping this nonsense with Tyler"
They have brought a bottle with them for Christmas lunch;  “We’ve got a lot to celebrate,” says Iolo, “Christmas, Seren’s birthday – and the fact that the police are stopping this nonsense with Tyler.”
Siôn was pleased when he heard about that,
"As if they had nothing to worry about"
and Garry cryptically remarks, “They were drinking champagne like water – as if they had nothing to worry about.”
Gaynor is updated on the latest situation
They explain to Gaynor that the police are dropping the investigation into Tyler, and have accepted that the allegation was nonsense.   Tyler would like to discuss what happens next at school,
"You can't just walk back in"
but Garry points out that he cannot just walk back in.
“He can if he follows protocol,” insists Gaynor, and Dani tries to defuse the situation by suggesting that they need to see Gwern upstairs before he goes to have lunch with Gwyneth.
"I'm very happy for you Tyler"
Gaynor is very happy for Tyler.
Mark is prevented from having another drink
Mark asks for another drink, but Britt informs him they are closing now, as she wants to serve lunch, and announces to all the customers that the Deri is now closing;  “I don’t want the turkey to be dry –
"Off you go to enjoy the rest of your day!"
“so off you go to enjoy the rest of your day – and a Merry Christmas to you all!”
Mark hears a familiar voice
As Mark is walking glumly across the road from the Deri, a taxi pulls up and his mother alights;  he is very surprised to see her,
"You shouldn't be on your own on Christmas Day"
and she says that she is bringing some festive spirit to the old place.   “Debbie texted to say what happened – you shouldn’t be on your own on Christmas Day.”
He acknowledges that she was right about Debbie,
They head towards Maes-y-Deri
and they head back towards Maes-y-Deri.
"Homeless folk are having Christmas dinner"
At the soup kitchen in Swansea, many homeless people are enjoying their Christmas dinner when Gaynor and Hywel arrive with their hamper;
Gaynor and Hywel arrive at the soup kitchen
as they look for the organiser, whose name is Ben, Gaynor catches sight of Angharad, who caused her so much trouble in the past.
"She's the last person I want to see!"
“She’s the one who tried to steal Elgan from me!   Can we go?” she pleads, but Hywel reminds her that they have only just arrived;  “She’s the last person I want to see!” Gaynor growls,
She is about to make a hasty retreat . . .
as she puts down the hamper on a table and heads for the door, as quickly as possible.
. . . but has been spotted by Angharad
However, she is too late;  Angharad has already seen her.   “What are you doing here?” she asks, “I wasn’t expecting to see you here!”
"Just what I need on Christmas Day!"
Gaynor explains they have brought some food, for Ben in the kitchen.   “We’ll have  a chat later, shall we?” suggests Angharad.
“Just what I need on Christmas Day!” groans Gaynor.
The Christmas dinner prospects look bleak
Kath cannot believe that Debbie has taken all the food from Maes-y-Deri;  “What are we going to have for lunch?”
The only thing Mark has left is a tin of soup, and his mother demands;  “Why didn’t you buy something yesterday?”
"There's no point for just one, is there?"
He replies that there is no point, just for one, and he did not know that she was going to turn up.
"There may be a couple of chicken burgers in the freezer"
He thinks that there may be a couple of chicken burgers in the freezer, but Kath is adamant, “I’m not eating chicken burgers for Christmas!   I could have gone to a posh hotel with Stacey!”
Kath's devious mind is working
Then she has an idea;  “Who’s the best cook in Cwmderi?”
Jim gives Eileen a present
At Penrhewl, Jim hands over his present to Eileen, and she finds an album of old photos, including one of their first date.
"Have you been naughty, or what?"
Sioned remembers that her mother only had a bottle of perfume last year;  “Have you been naughty, or what?” she asks.   Jim insists that he can spoil his wife if he wants to,
It is stirring up Eileen's emotions
and Eileen is becoming quite emotional, looking at the photos.
"It's a pity he's teething at Christmas"
Then Huwi can be heard crying, and Jim goes up to him, remarking that it is a pity he is teething on Christmas Day;  when Sioned says, “He won’t be next year – so look out!” he looks uneasy.
"Mam, are you all right?"
Then she finds that her mother is crying,
"It's so lovely, Sioned!"
because it is so lovely;  Sioned is starting to worry that something is wrong.
"A little present for Huwi"
There is a knock at the door, and a familiar voice can be heard;  Kath and Mark arrive, wishing them Happy Christmas.   Kath has brought a little present for Huwi, and was hoping for a cwtch.   Eileen will get them a sherry.
Gaynor and Hywel are making themselves useful
At the soup kitchen, Gaynor and Hywel are making themselves useful, but then they see Angharad coming;
"It's so nice to see you, Gay"
“It’s so nice to see you, Gay, how are you?” she says,
"This is my partner, Hywel"
and is introduced to her partner, Hywel.   Gaynor points out that she and Elgan separated.
"I'm sorry for the way I behaved"
“Not because of me, I hope,” remarks Angharad, “I’m so sorry for the way I behaved the last time I saw you, Gay.   I might as well get it out of the way straightaway – I’ve been wanting to contact you for ages,
"I wasn't very nice to you"
but I was worried you’d be angry, because I wasn’t very nice to you.”
"No, you weren't!"
“No, you weren’t!” Gaynor readily agrees;  Angharad explains that she was in a bad place, not that it is any excuse, but she has turned a corner now.    She has a tidy job and a new flat, where she will be moving in before long.
"How long have you been helping out here?"
Hywel asks how long she has been helping out at the soup kitchen;  “A couple of months,” she replies,
"It's a nice feeling to give something back"
“It’s a nice feeling, being able to give back something after being at rock bottom myself.”   Then she sees one of her friends about to leave, and hurries away
"She's not as bad as you make out"
“She’s not as bad as you make out,” Hywel concludes, but Gaynor does not trust her.
As Kath downs another sherry, Eileen cannot believe that she is having soup for Christmas dinner;
Eileen is very persuasive
“You must have dinner here!” she insists, but Kath maintains that she cannot possibly do that.   Eileen will not take no for an answer,
They are restocking the log pile
so as Mark helps Jim to bring in some logs for the fire,
"Mark, we've been invited for Christmas dinner!"
his mother informs him that they have been invited for Christmas dinner.
Hywel seems to have abandoned Esther, whom he has not seen for months
Just as Eileen tells Jim about this, Eifion arrives with Izzy and Esther;  he explains, “Gaynor and Hywel are out, and Izzy can’t wait until tonight to eat.”   Izzy vows that she is never drinking tequila again,
"I always make too much food"
Eileen points out she always makes too much food.
"Well, that worked like a dream, didn't it?"
Kath looks very pleased with herself.
They have all eaten their fill
At the dinner table in the Deri flat they have all had a lovely meal;  “She’s been worried about the Christmas dinner for days,” Colin tells them,
"Well, you've all been so good to me"
and Britt insists that they have all been so good to her, she wanted to do something nice for them.
"And she's such a good cook!"
Colin praises her for being such a good cook.
"It must have cost a fortune"
“You’re not the only one with a special partner,” exclaims Iolo, “Look what Tyler bought me!” and he shows off his watch.   Colin can see he did not get that down the market, and Iolo says that it must have cost a fortune.
"Everything he put you through with that schoolboy"
“Feeling guilty, probably!” comments Garry, “For everything he put you through with that schoolboy.”
"I can't believe that little swine lied!"
Britt cannot believe that little swine lied, and that it took so long for the police to see through him.
"It's hard to know who to believe, isn't it?"
“Yes, it’s hard to know who to believe, isn’t it?” Garry adds, “It’s so easy to throw dust into people’s eyes.”
Tyler is becoming resentful
Tyler by this time is looking rather uncomfortable.
Dani changes the subject;  “Everything’s sorted now, so why don’t we open Aaron’s presents?   A break before pudding, as we’re stuffed!’
The meal is about over
At the soup kitchen, Hywel suggests that everyone can change,
"Why are you defending Angharad?"
but Gaynor demands why he is defending Angharad.
"It won't happen to me"
He points out, “We all make mistakes,” but she realises that he has been charmed by her, just like Elgan.   “What happened to Elgan isn’t going to happen to me,” he assures her,
"You should give her a second chance"
“Even if she throws herself at me!   She’s not in your league, Gaynor – but I do think you should give her a second chance, as she clearly regrets it.”
They are given a gingerbread man each
Angharad brings each of them a gingerbread man, as a parting gift, and wants things to be OK between her and Gaynor.   “Go and enjoy your meal – Gaynor’s a better cook than me.
"See you soon, Gay – and you too, Hywel!"
“See you soon, Gay – and you too, Hywel!”
Back to her nasty, manipulative self
As soon as they are out of the door, Angharad’s expression changes;
She is going to resume being a thorn in Gaynor's side
she gets out her phone and checks that she has Gaynor Llywelyn’s phone number.
"This is just what I wanted, Anita"
At Y Felin, Siôn finds that Anita has given him the book which he really wanted;  then she notices under the Christmas tree the present for Paul.
"It's his outfit for Christmas Day . . ."
It is the little outfit for him to wear on Christmas Day, which she thought she had given to Kelly.
". . . let's take it over to Merthyr for him"
“Listen, Siôn, I know you don't want to, but would you mind if we popped this over to Merthyr, just for a couple of hours, so that he can wear it?”
"It's time for the meal in half an hour"
He reminds her that they will be eating their meal in half an hour, but she goes on and on.
“I’m not going to Merthyr,” he informs her,
"We're having lunch here, like we organised!"
but she insists that the outfit will be no use to him tomorrow.   Siôn puts his foot down;  “You and I are having lunch here, like we organised!”
Anita's mind is made up
She has already put on her coat, and says that their lunch can be just a little bit late;  once more he emphasises that he is not going to Merthyr, so she will go on her own, seeing that he is being so stubborn.
“This is important to me!   You’re a big boy – I’m sure you can entertain yourself!’ she snaps at him,
"I won't be long, Siôn!
“I won’t be long.”   Siôn is exasperated.
"Auntie Marian's special recipé"
Jim serves up their dessert;  “Auntie Marian’s special recipé,” he announces.   Eileen cannot manage her large helping,
Two dishes are swapped
so swaps plates with Mark, but as soon as he takes a mouthful
There is a foreign body in this Christmas pudding . . .
he detects something hard,
. . . a ring, no less
and finds that it is a ring.
"I was trying to be romantic!"
“You’ve spoiled the surprise now!” roars Jim, “It’s an eternity ring – I was trying to be romantic!”   He rinses the ring under the tap,
"Merry Christmas, Eileen!"
and then presents it to Eileen, wishing her, “Merry Christmas!”
"Hang on – that's Kelly!"
Anita is driving along the High Street on her way to Merthyr at 3:00pm when she sees Kelly approaching the door of the café, so stops immediately.
Kelly looks around the café
Kelly has entered the café door, and looks around;
She ignores her mother's message
then her phone sounds, and she finds it is a message from her mother, but she ignores it.
There is an urgent knocking at the soor
By the time she reaches the bottom of the stairs, there is an urgent knocking on the door, and she sees Anita waving to her.
“You almost gave me a heart attack!” says Kelly,
"Where's Paul?"
and Anita demands why she did not say she was coming back.   She also wants to know where Paul is.
"He's staying with Mam, until Social Services find him a home"
“He’s not here, obviously, “Kelly replies, “He’s staying with Mam in Merthyr, until Social Services find him a forever home –
"He's going to be adopted"
“he’s going to be adopted.
"No – you changed your mind, didn't you?"
Anita, at first speechless, then declares, “No – you changed your mind, didn’t you?    “You took him to Merthyr with you so you could be a mother to him.”   Kelly walks past her to the stairs,
"This was your plan from the start!"
and Anita realises, “It was a lie – this was your plan from the start!”
Kelly goes upstairs . . .
Kelly goes upstairs to the flat,
. . . and Anita is infuriated
and Anita looks infuriated.
