Debbie checks she is alone in the house
Debbie arrives home and checks that there is no-one in the house;
She gets out the wad of money . . .
she takes the roll of notes from her bag and adds it to her secret hiding-place –
. . . and adds it to her stash
a brown envelope, down the back of the rather tattered sofa.   When she hears the sound of Mark and his mother coming in through the front door, she quickly replaces the envelope and sits down.
"I have to get Dai to start on Saturday!"
Kath is trying to ensure that Dai will start the work on Saturday, and then they are surprised to see that Debbie is there;
"You haven't got the sheets, have you?"
“I finished early to clear Ricky’s room, remember?” Mark tells her, and Kath protests that Debbie has not bought any sheets to cover the furniture.
“I don’t trust Dai Sgaffalde to do it – go and to get them, now!” she orders, but Debbie says that she wants to stay there, and tries to get Mark to go instead.
"I've walked miles already on my round!"
“I’ve walked miles on my round already this morning,” he protests, and Kath adds that they cannot start painting until all the furniture is covered.
Debbie has no choice but to go
Debbie has no choice but to go, and is warned not to be too long, as they need her help.   Mark will go and get changed.
They plan to go to the cinema . . .
Out in the park, Guto tells Luned that ‘Rocketman’ is on at Llanelli at 5:30, then Tesni comes to join them;
. . . and Tesni invites herself along
“I couldn’t stick it at home!” she moans, and when she discovers they are going to watch a film, she invites herself along too.
"It is supposed to be a date, Tes!"
Luned points out that it was supposed to be a date – just the two of them.
Guto shouts to Aled and is ignored
Then Guto notices Aled walking past and shouts to him;
"He snogged a teacher – it's all a bit weird!"
Luned complains, “I don’t want to go to the cinema with him – he snogged a teacher!   It’s all a bit weird.”   Tesni predicts that by this time next week, everyone in school will know,
The girls have a drink – and a laugh
and gets two bottles from her bag, giving one to Luned.
"The boys went to Oakwood yesterday"
In the chip shop flat, Aaron is texting his friends and looking at their photos;  “They went to Oakwood yesterday,” he says, and Colin remarks that he will be back at school very soon.
"Are you still playing with your phone?"
Britt comes out of her room with the washing, and rebukes Aaron for playing with his phone all day;
"I can find you something to do!"
“I can find you something to do – like tidying your room – I’ve just been in there, you can’t see the floor!”
He informs her, “I’m just talking to the boys, Mam, I haven’t seen much of them.”
"Why don't you two go out somewhere?"
Colin has a brainwave, suggesting that Aaron and his mother go out somewhere today;  “To town, perhaps?   How about those flashy trainers you liked the other day?”
Colin gives Aaron money for the trainers
and he gives Aaron some money from his wallet.   He continues that they could get themselves a pizza on the way home.
Britt does not look like going shopping
Aaron is very much in favour of this, but Britt less so.
When Aaron has gone for a shower, Colin says that it would be nice for them to spend some time together;
"Llanelli is the last place I want to go"
“Llanelli is the last place I want to go,” Britt groans, and he suggests that she goes for a lie down for a while.   “I need more than five minutes, Col,” she points out,
"You go and rest, Britt"
and he wishes he had not made the suggestion;  he will deal with the washing and tells her to go and rest.
"You've had six weeks to train"
In another part of the park, Ffion, Iolo and Tyler are on a run;  Iolo comments that the other two have had six weeks to train.   “If you say one word about teachers’ holidays . . .” Ffion begins,
As they perform some stretches . . .
and proposes they do some stretches.
. . . Tyler notices Aled
Tyler notices Aled walking over a bridge in the distance;  he hesitates,
"I'm not looking forward to going back to school"
and Tyler admits that he is not looking forward to going back to school.
Aled retreats
Aled turns and walks away.
"Here are the trainers, Col!"
Aaron announces that he knows which trainers he wants, and shows them to Colin on his phone;  “And I’m taking my own money, so Mam won’t have to spend a penny.   Where is she?”
"Your Mam is having a lie down"
Colin explains that she is having a lie down, and that she should not be disturbed;  “Look, I shouldn’t have suggested that you go today –
"Perhaps you can go another time"
“perhaps you can go another time – tomorrow – next week.   She can’t help it, Aaron.”
"She used to be a lot of fun, didn't she?"
He appreciates this, but remembers that his mother used to be a lot of fun – going places and organising things.
"And she will be again, boy"
Colin insists that she will be again, but Aaron is not so optimistic.
"Why don't you go out with the boys?"
“Why don’t you go out for a while to meet the boys – I don’t see a problem, as long as you behave and you’re back in a couple of hours,” says Colin, “Your mother is asleep, and if she wakes, I’ll talk to her.”
Colin has been relieved of the money for the trainers
As Aaron leaves, Colin remembers that he wants the money back, but Aaron laughs, “You snooze, you lose, Colin Evans!”
Mark and Kath have a tea break
Mark and Kath are having a break from their labours, with a cup of tea, and sit down on the sofa;  “When Debbie gets back, we’ll crack on again,” says Kath, but finds the sofa is showing its age.
"We could do with a new sofa!"
“The first thing I’ll do, if I come into some money, is buy a new sofa – this is so uncomfortable!   Have you got the remote?”
"What's this doing, down there?"
She makes Mark move as she looks for it down the sofa, and inevitably comes across the brown paper bag.   “I found this!” she says, stunned,
"There's hundreds here!"
and shows Mark the money;  “There’s hundreds here!”
"What have you been doing, Mark?"
Mark is of the opinion that it is more like thousands, and she immediately jumps to the conclusion that this is something to do with him.   “What have you done, Mark?” she growls;
"I haven't seen it before, Mam!"
he protests he has not seen it before.
She demands where it has come from, and neither of them know;  “You might find a few pounds behind the sofa, but not thousands!” Kath exclaims, and at that moment the front door opens.
Then they show their amazing find to Debbie
They show Debbie what they have found, and she tries to look amazed.
"There are thousands of pounds there!"
Kath points out that there are thousands, and wonders why Debbie is not excited; she unconvincingly says that it is a shock,
"You're lying, Debbie!"
but they can see that she is lying.
“I’m getting tired of you blaming things on me!” Debbie snarls, but is told to simply tell the truth.
"Why would I hide money in the sofa?"
“I am – why would I hide money in the sofa?” she demands;
"Who said anything about the sofa?"
then it is pointed out to her that they had not mentioned where they found the money, and Mark knows that something is going on.
"Taking her side now, are you?"
“You’re taking her side now, are you?” Debbie shouts, .
The app is now in the testing stage
As the three of them sit in the park, Tesni and Luned are testing the app they have devised, and Guto describes it as boring.   Luned has created a logo, then they see the three runners approaching, but at a more leisurely pace.
"He might have found out you filmed him!"
“He might have found out that you filmed him,” Luned whispers to Guto.
"Are you looking forward to the new term"
Ffion asks if they are looking forward to the new term, and Tesni replies that they are going to the cinema tonight –
"Aled might come with us!"
mischievously adding that Aled might be come with them.
"Not the best place if you want to avoid pupils"
Tyler tries to look unconcerned, but as they walk away, remarks, “The park is not the best place to come if you want to avoid pupils.”   Ffion finds this rather strange.
"It just sort of came out!"
Tesni laughs that her comment just came out.
"Sorry I stormed off like that"
Mark comes into the kitchen, after emptying the recycling, and Debbie apologises for storming off like that;
"It's my money – I've been saving"
“It’s my money – I’ve been saving.”
"What – since 1993?"
Kath replies that it must have been since 1993, and Mark cannot see how she can save that much, working at the salon.
Then she thinks up another excuse
Then she comes up with another excuse, “Josh has been sending it to me – he knew things were tight after I lost the café.   He won on the races, and  the scrap business has been doing well – it’s great, isn’t it?”
"And you didn't say a word to us?"
Mark cannot believe that she has had all that money and has not said a word to them.   Debbie says she thought he was too proud, but he insists, “Not too proud to accept a couple of thousand!”
"It's for Ricky, when he goes to college"
Debbie maintains that she was keeping it is for Ricky, until he is ready to go to college, but Kath looks extremely sceptical, as she continues, “You know how much that costs – he’ll need food and books . . . I was trying to do what’s best for everyone – but I was wrong, and I’m sorry!
"I should have told the truth from the start"
“I’m really, really sorry for what I’ve done – I should have told the truth from the start.”   Kath consoles her that everything will be all right, and apologises for doubting her.
"I'd better phone Josh to thank him"
Mark says he will have to phone Josh to thank him for the money, but Debbie replies that he will deny everything;  “I promised that I wouldn’t tell anyone.”
"I could have sold that on eBay!"
Kath does not consider it a good idea to keep it all in the sofa;  “I could have sold that on eBay!”
"That money will have to go in the bank"
Mark wants all the money to be put in the bank.
"You're right – there are pupils everywhere . . ."
Still in the park, Ffion agrees that there are pupils everywhere,
". . . there's another one!"
and then she sees another one, who happens to be Aled;  Tyler shouts to him, but he turns and walks away.
"I have to go after him"
Tyler says that he has to go after him, despite Iolo’s advice against it;  Ffion wants to know what is going on, insisting that Iolo tell her.
"He has a bit of a crush on Tyler"
“Aled has been hassling Tyler – has a bit of a crush on him.”
"Ignoring him would be best"
Ffion remarks that ignoring him would be best, which is exactly what Iolo told him.
“He tried to kiss Tyler, and he’s turned up at the house a few times,” he goes on, and Ffion is horrified;  “Aled is confused, and Tyler thinks he can sort out all his problems.”
"I know from experience with Elliw and Chester!"
Ffion exclaims that Tyler should not go anywhere near him;  “I know from experience with Elliw and Chester!   No matter how much he wants to help, he should not do that!”
"Exactly what I told him!"
Iolo is well aware of the fact.
"Where's Aaron, then?"
When Britt awakens, she wants to know where Aaron is, and is informed by Colin that he has gone out with his friends.   She demands why he has done that,
"I've let him down, haven't I?"
and is told, “I thought it would do him good to be out for an hour or so.”   She concludes that she has let him down, not taking him shopping,
"It was important that you rested"
and Colin points out that she was so tired, it was important that she rested.
"I can't think straight, Col!"
“I can’t think straight!” she wails, “I can’t be a mother to him like this!” but again Colin emphasises that she just needs time.   “How much time do I need?   I might never get better!”
"Of course you'll get better"
He replies that of course she will – she has to – and hugs her.
"Sorry I shouted at you, Debs"
Mark apologises to Debbie for shouting at her, assuring her that she has not done anything wrong.
"But you lied for the right reasons"
He concedes that she lied, but for the right reasons, and he has been thinking that they should treat themselves with some of that money.
"We can have a little treat"
“Keep most of it for Ricky going to college, but we can have a little treat – we never have that kind of money!”
She tries to look enthusiastic as she admits that it would be nice,
"We just have a takeaway and a couple of pints"
and he continues, “We don’t spend anything on ourselves – apart from a takeaway and a couple of pints.   Come and sit down with me – why don’t you book a day in a spa or something like that?   It would be nice having a facial and massage – I’m sure you’re stressed after hiding that from us for so long.”
"Well, it hasn't been easy"
She confesses that it has not been easy, and when he suggests going to see Ricky, she does not want them to mention the money, but must take one day at a time.   “I just want this nightmare with Ricky to be over!” she pleads,
"He'll be all right – he's a Jones!"
and Mark is confident that Ricky will be all right, as he is a Jones.
Debbie and Mark kiss
They kiss each other, but Mark says they do not have time to be soppy – they have a lot to do.
Tyler locates Aled
In the café, below the newly-installed painting, Aled is sitting, and Tyler finds him;
"I just want to check you're OK"
“I just want to check you’re OK, that’s all,” Tyler tells him.
"You didn't want to know last week!"
Aled protests, “You didn’t want to know last week – you sent me away!”
"Iolo thought it was for the best"
Tyler replies that Iolo thought it was for the best;  “I just wanted help!” Aled begs,
"Don't pretend you care!"
“I had nowhere else to turn – don’t pretend that you care!”
"You know where I am"
Tyler tells him, “If you need help, you know where I am,” gets up and leaves.
"It's time for your tablets, Britt"
Colin informs Britt that it is time for her to take her tablets, and she says she will set the alarm on her phone to remind her when to take them;  “Do you mind fetching my phone?   It’s by the bed.”
Britt is given her three tablets
He hands her three tablets and goes to the bedroom;
She debates whether to take the tablets or not . . .
she looks at the tablets, but before she can make her mind up what to do with them,
. . . but then Aaron comes home
Aaron comes in, so she swallows them.
"Sorry I slept so long, Aaron"
She apologises for sleeping so long,
"It doesn't matter – how do you feel?"
but Aaron says it does not matter;  Britt tries to give the impression that she feels good, after having slept all afternoon, and promises they will go some other time;  “But next time, you’ll have to promise to wake me.”
"I had to talk to Aled about his project"
Iolo gets back to Number 7, and Tyler alleges that he had to talk to Aled about his project;
"You have to be careful in situations like this"
then he sees that Ffion is also coming into the house.   “You have to be careful in situations like this, Tyler,” she warns him,
"I told her what happened"
“Iolo told me about the kiss, and the visits to the house.   If he’s having problems at home, he can get help through the school’s support service.”
"They'll do absolutely nothing!"
Tyler predicts that they will do absolutely nothing,
Ffion takes the hint and leaves
and he makes it clear he does not want to hear any more from Ffion, so she leaves the house.
"You had no right to tell her anything!"
“You had no right to tell her anything!” he rages at Iolo, but is told he had to say something, after Tyler ran after Aled.   “I just went to see if he was OK!” is Tyler’s response.
"You're causing problems for yourself!"
“You’re causing problems for yourself!” Iolo points out, “Ffion can see how dangerous this is – and I was hoping she could talk some sense into you.”
"She doesn't understand – and neither do you!"
Tyler roars that Ffion does not understand;  “And neither do you!   Your family has always supported you – it wasn’t like that for me, and I don’t think it is for Aled!”
"You like the thought of saving Aled, don't you?"
Iolo thinks he likes the idea of saving Aled, but Tyler is adamant,
"We've turned our backs on him – that's unforgivable!"
“We’ve turned our backs on him – we closed the door in his face, and that’s unforgivable!”
"I don't want him in our lives . . ."
Iolo warns him not to contact Aled outside school;  “I don’t want him in this house – and I don’t want him in our lives!   Look at us arguing now because of him.
". . . for the sake of our relationship!"
“For the sake of our relationship, I want you to promise me.”
"Just leave me alone!"
Tyler snarls, “I’ll promise you – but it’s obvious to me that you don’t trust me.   Don’t say anything – just leave me alone!”
