| Dylan has come to see Jaclyn |
There is a familiar knock on the door of number 10, and Dylan has brought Jaclyn a belated birthday present; he asks Gerwyn, “Where is she, then?”

| "It's like a Zeppelin!" |
She comes downstairs and squeals with delight when she sees the ‘Happy Birthday’ balloon, describing it as like a Zeppelin.

| Dylan gives her a present . . . |
As Dylan hands her a present, Gerwyn decides he is going to work, and guesses that it is a holiday in the Bahamas; Dylan replies he is leaving that until Christmas.

| . . . a day in a recording studio |
She discovers that it is a day in a recording studio, which leaves her almost speechless. “I saw it in Llanelli – the place that sells experiences –

| "I thought 'That's for her'!" |
“I thought, ‘That’s for her!’ You haven’t sung for ages, and I thought . . .” Gerwyn says he will be late for work,

| Gerwyn has been upstaged again |
and leaves the house, not exactly happy.
 |
| "You can't go to Venice and not hire a gondola!" |
At Llwyncelyn, Eifion is looking on the laptop, and Izzy says they will have to hire a gondola; “You can’t go to Venice and not hire a gondola!”

| Gaynor is listening |
Gaynor has just come downstairs and overheard this.
 |
| "Like going to Caerphilly and not eating cheese!" |
Eifion compares it to going to Caerphilly and not eating cheese.

| "And who's paying?" |
“So you are going to Venice?” remarks Gaynor, “And who’s paying?” Izzy answers that Eifion is, and although this comes as news to him,

| "I was left some money by Auntie Nel" |
he agrees that, as he was left some money by Auntie Nel, he thought he would treat them. Gaynor was under the impression that his aunt did not like him, but he admits she was not as bad as he thought.

| "Things are developing quite quickly" |
“Things are developing quite quickly, if you’re going on holiday together,” observes Gaynor, and is about to go to school;

| "Can you give me a lift to the village?" |
Izzy asks her for a lift to the village, but her mother says, “Can’t he give you a lift?” Eifion points out that ‘he’ has work to do.
 |
| "What is happening at Brynawelon is awful!" |
At Y Felin, Anita has been visited by Lisa Morgan, who insists, “What is happening at Brynawelon is awful – my mother lives there, and with all the cuts the Council is making, she doesn’t know if she’ll have a roof over her head. I’m very worried – and it shouldn’t be happening!”

| "But is it the Council's fault?" |
Anita queries if the Council is responsible, and Lisa continues, “They’re making cuts – they say they don’t have enough money. Lies!”
Anita regards that as rather a bold claim,

| "They're spending a million to try to save few hundred thousand" |
but is told, “I’m telling the truth – the Council has paid a consultation company over £1 million to work out where they can save hundreds of thousands. Over a million! How can they justify that?

| Amita realises she is passionate about this |
“It’s unethical – it’s time people realised how weak our Council is!”
 |
| "Then the blue-eyed boy comes in . . ." |
Gerwyn is working on a car, and complains to his mother, who is drinking tea, “Then the blue-eyed boy comes in and says he’s booked a day in a recording studio!” He turns to Brenda, and complains, “You haven’t been listening, have you?” She detects a classic case of jealousy, which of course he denies.

| "A karaoke machine does not compare" |
“Look, a karaoke machine doesn’t compare to a session in a studio,” he grumbles, but his mother points out he is not in the same league as Dylan, in terms of money.
“You can’t spend the same – so there’s no point competing – and it sounds like a competition to me!” she tells him.

| "Oi! Haven't you finished yet?" |
Then Jim comes along the road, in his customary ill humour, shouting, “Oi! Haven’t you finished yet? You said it would be ready!”

| "It was Bank Holiday yesterday, Jim" |
Gerwyn reminds him it was a Bank Holiday yesterday,
 |
| "Give me the keys, and I'll take it somewhere else!" |
and Jim demands, “Right – give me the keys and I’ll take it somewhere else! You support local businesses, and this is what you get! And I’ll make damn sure that everybody knows!”
Gerwyn assures him that it will be ready in a couple of hours,

| "That's too late!" |
but Jim shouts that it is too late.
 |
| "By the time you find a garage, Ger will have finished it!" |
Brenda intervenes to inform him that Ger is not taking advantage, and he is sorting out the car now. “By the time that you find a garage, Ger will have finished it!

| "Come and have a cup of tea – and a slice of cake!" |
“Why don’t we go back to the house for a cup of tea – and a slice of cake?” This last statement tends to calm Jim slightly.
 |
| "You expressed your point very well" |
At the end of their interview, Anita says that Lisa expressed her point very well; she will edit the piece and let Lisa know when it will be broadcast. “It’s made me more determined to get a seat on the Council,” she informs Lisa,

| "You'll make a very good councillor" |
who thinks Anita will make a very good councillor.
 |
| "Well, things need to change!" |
“Well, things need to change – people need to know what’s going on, and how weak our council is!” Anita insists.
 |
| "I promised Eileen I wouldn't" |
Brenda brings Jim a cup of tea, and the promised, rather large, slice of cake, which he initially declines; “No, I’d better not,” he groans, “I promised Eileen I’m not going to eat anything sweet this week.”
 |
| "You may be hyperglycaemic" |
Brenda suggests this may be why he is so sharp; “Why you shouted at Ger earlier – you may be hyperglycaemic,”
 |
| "Whatever's that?" |
and Jim wonders what she is on about.
 |
| "It must be 'Grumpy Old Man' syndrome" |
“Have you always been so impatient” she goes on, and Jim does not know, so she puts it down to, “Grumpy old man syndrome – my husband Ned was the same – once he turned 50, he had no patience for anyone or anything.”

| "I'm fine – it's everyone else!" |
Jim replies that he is fine – everybody else is the problem; “It’s just that the smallest things make me angry.”
 |
| "Bank Holidays have been around for years" |
Brenda suggests that Bank Holidays have been around for years,

| "I suppose I might have been a bit rash" |
and he confesses that in that case he may have been a little rash.
Again she urges him to eat the cake;
 |
| "Come on – it would be a shame to waste it" |
“It’s a shame to waste it!” and now he consents to do so,
 |
| "Then we'll go and say sorry to Ger, shall we?" |
as she continues, “Then we’ll go over and say sorry to Ger, shall we? What do you say?”
 |
| "That's a lovely bit of cake!" |
Jim is really enjoying that cake.
 |
| "Not as good as what we serve in Tapas!" |
Dylan withdraws money from the cash machine when Gerwyn passes with a takeaway coffee from the café; Dylan dismisses it as being very inferior to what they serve in Tapas.

| "You've got artisan roasted coffee, haven't you?" |
“I forgot – you’ve got artisan roasted coffee, haven’t you?” Gerwyn begins,
 |
| "Jac's not sure if she wants the present" |
and then adds, “You know Jac’s birthday present – she’s not sure whether she wants it – she said she’d prefer a pampering session or something instead. She doesn’t think it’s a good idea to go back to the recording studio. Remember when she lost the contract with the label in London? She fell apart, didn’t she? She doesn’t want to open old wounds.”

| "You don't want her to sing again" |
This does not for one moment convince Dylan; “Or you don’t want her to sing again – you don’t want her to go.

| "She put all her dreams on hold for you" |
“She put all her dreams on hold to raise a family with you – she could have gone far, but she listened to you – and now you don’t want her to do this!”
“It’s just a day in a recording studio,” Dylan stresses,

| "I'm worried she might want to try again" |
but Gerwyn is worried that she might want to try again now the children have grown. “Stop thinking about yourself, and start supporting your wife!” Dylan tells him, “Because I know she can’t wait to sing.” Gerwyn looks very sceptical.

| Brynmor is making the most of the free drinks |
In the Deri, Hywel is accompanied by Brynmor, who reminisces, “That’s one of the things I miss about my Council days – the long lunches with the boys.

| "Before you take me back to Colditz" |
“Is there any chance of another one before you take me back to Colditz?”
 |
| "It can't be that bad, can it?" |
Hywel does not think the place can be that bad, but Brynmor goes on, “The sooner the riff-raff get their marching orders, the better – we have to sacrifice some to save the others.”

| "Is there anything I can do to help?" |
Hywel enquires if there is anything he can do to help,
 |
| "What's the name of that blonde?" |
and is told, “That woman, the blonde, the one asking about the cuts – what’s her name again?”
 |
| "You mean Anita" |
Hywel replies that it is Anita.
 |
| "You need to put a stop to her digging" |
“You need to put a stop to her digging – be straight with her – tell her there’s a time and a place for principles,” Brynmor continues, “She doesn’t understand politics – the worst thing you can do is embarrass the Council. If she runs with this story, some people will turn against her, and she won’t get any support.
 |
| "I've still got a fair bit of clout, you know" |
“If you do that, I’ll make sure everyone knows who was responsible from stopping this embarrassment from going public – I’ve still got a fair bit of clout, you know.”
Hywel appreciates the information, but there is more to come;

| "But if you don't manage to deter her . . ." |
“But if you don’t manage to deter her, well, I’d have to say otherwise.” Hywel finds this rather disturbing, but will go and get another drink for Brynmor.

| Jaclyn is thinking of songs she could sing |
As they come out of Tapas, Jaclyn is thinking of songs that she could sing, and Dylan suggests one of her original songs;

| "You could be the Welsh Dolly Parton!" |
“You could be the Welsh Dolly Parton!” She insists that she is too busy working, being a wife and a mother. He points out that several famous singers have children, but she replies that she already has a job and career.

| He gives her a CD of Country Hits |
He gives her a CD of ‘Fifty Top Country Hits’, which they can play in Tapas.

| Jim learns his car has passed the MOT |
Gerwyn advises Jim that his car has passed the MOT;

| "A new wiper blade and bulb" |
“I fitted a new wiper blade and bulb.”

| "Sorry about earlier, Gerwyn" |
Jim is about to walk away when he is prompted by Brenda to apologise for earlier, explaining that he was not thinking straight.

| "Your mother is some woman!" |
When he gets into the car and is about to drive away, Jim remarks, “Your mother is some woman!”
 |
| "Doesn't fancy you, does he?" |
Gerwyn thinks that he fancies Brenda, but she replies that he is not after her – he just needed someone to talk to.
She wonders if her son wants to talk,

| "Do I give Jac enough support?" |
and he is anxious whether he gives Jaclyn enough support; “It’s something that Dylan said.”
Brenda informs him that he works hard and supports her.

| "It's obvious you two are still in love" |
She admits that she has not always got on with Jaclyn, but she knows one thing; “You two are still in love, and if you’d do anything for each other.”
 |
| Anita comes face to face with Brynmor |
As Brynmor is about to leave the Deri, Anita comes in;

| "I'm looking forward to talking to you" |
“I’m looking forward to talking to you in the near future,” he says. She wonders what the two of them are doing together, and Hywel explains that they are just having lunch.

| "I'll be with you in a minute" |
He tells Brynmor to go to the car, and has a word with Anita.
 |
| "I'm using him for my own research" |
Hywel points out that Brynmor is a former councillor, who has now retired; “I’m using him for my own research, as he is a resident of Brynawelon. You’d be surprised at what he had to say – can you call round later?

| "I'm sure you can make time – it's quite important!" |
“There is something I’d like to discuss – I’m sure you can make time, as it is quite important!” He leaves to take Brynmor back.

| Eifion removes pages from the Cae Glas invoice book |
At Penrhewl, Eifion is tearing pages out of the Cae Glas invoice book, and putting them in his pocket;

| "I've found a way to solve our problem" |
he tells Izzy on the phone that he has found a way to solve their problem, and wants to meet her in the Deri later.

| "Just filing some invoices, to help out" |
When Jim comes in, Eifion maintains that he is just filing some invoices in order to help out, but Jim describes it as a mess, and wants Eifion to work outside;

| Jaclyn is looking at CDs |
At number 10, Jaclyn is looking at CDs when Gerwyn returns home; “You must be the only person in the world who still listens to CDs,” he remarks; she says she likes to have something real in her hand, and still does not understand iTunes.

| "I'm surprised you're not collecting vinyl again" |
He is surprised that she is not collecting vinyl again, and she replies that if they had a bigger house, she would.
 |
| "You could have had a bigger house, and a different life" |
“You could have had a bigger house, and a different life,” he muses,

| "We are OK, aren't we, Jac?" |
“We are OK, aren’t we, Jac?”

| "We're more than OK, Ger!" |
Jaclyn assures him that they are more than OK; she does not want a different life, and has everything she wants.

| "Another present from Dylan?" |
He is concerned to see that she has had another present from Dylan, the country music CD.
 |
| "The pizzas are on the way" |
In the Deri, Eifion tells Izzy, “The pizzas are on the way, so we can get used to the taste of Italy,” and she is looking forward to it.

| "Get out of jail card!" |
He hands her the Cae Glas invoices, which he describes as, “A get out of jail card.”
 |
| "They will help fill the hole in the Antur Iaith budget" |
He explains. “They will help fill the hole in the Antur Iaith budget. Just fill them out for £300-worth of food –no-one will check, and if they do, say you took out £300 in cash and paid with that.”

| Izzy is not particularly happy about this |
Izzy looks rather doubtful about this, but he continues, “Don’t go overboard – no more than £100 at a time – £20 here and £50 there.”

| "I would have told you not to listen to her" |
Hywel informs Anita, “If I had known that Lisa Morgan was your source of information, I would have told you not to listen to her!”

| "She talked a lot of sense, Hywel" |
Anita replies that Lisa talked a lot of sense, but he dismisses that; “Lisa would say anything to get her own way!

| "I know her a lot better than you do" |
“You can’t rely on her – and I know her a lot better than you do!”
 |
| "So that's what you were doing with Brynmor" |
Anita has checked all the facts, and Hywel remarks that he has been checking things as well; she realises, “So that’s what you were doing with Brynmor.”

| "Lisa is playing the system" |
“He doesn’t think that there is a problem with the situation at Brynawelon,” Hywel goes on, and Anita emphasises that is because he does not stand to lose his home. “Lisa is playing the system – she just wants a better room for her mother!” Hywel insists.

| "She's fighting for better conditions for everyone" |
“No – she’s fighting for better conditions for everyone,” exclaims Anita, but is told that is not what Brynmor thinks.
 |
| "If you won't talk to Brynmor, you can't broadcast the item" |
Hywel makes it clear, “Anita, if you won’t talk to Brynmor and get his views, you can’t broadcast that item – we need balance, you know that.”
 |
| "You're not interested in balance!" |
She can see what is going on here; “Hywel, you’re not interested in balance – this is a way of looking after your own interests. Do you know what?
