Gaynor clears up after last night
Gaynor is annoyed to find a lot of empty bottles on the table at Llwyncelyn;
"I'm getting something for Izzy's headache"
Eifion walks into the room, remarking that she is up early.   “I’m just getting something for Izzy’s headache,” he says.
“What?” exclaims Gaynor, “The Kids’ Club starts in 10 minutes!” but he thinks he will be looking after her today.
"Izzy, come down here – now!"
Gaynor rushes to the foot of the stairs and shouts to Izzy to come down immediately.
When Izzy replies that she is not well, her mother rages, “You should have thought of that before opening the third bottle!”
"We were brainstorming ideas for Yr Antur"
Eifion tries to convince her that they were brainstorming ideas for Yr Antur, but Gaynor continues her tirade, “I’m not telling you again – you’re not a student any more!”
"Why don't you go to work, Eifion?"
Izzy finally comes downstairs, saying that she finds it difficult to move, and Eifion confirms that there is a lot of it going around.   Gaynor’s response is to tell him to go to work,
"I don't expect to find you here when I come back!"
then she informs her daughter, “I have to go out – I expect you to have gone to work by the time I get back – you can’t start this Kids’ Club and then let people down!   The world doesn’t work like that!”
Izzy is feeling the after-effects of too much alcohol
Izzy has to rush to the kitchen sink, where she throws up.
Aaron prepares to go out
In the chippy flat, Aaron is preparing some food to take with him, as he is going surfing at Pembrey Park;
"Teifi's Mam is picking me up in ten minutes"
he tells his mother, “Teifi’s Mam is picking me up in ten minutes.”
Britt is concerned about this, wondering how long he has been surfing; “Which adult will be with you, and when will you be back?” she demands.
"I'll be back before bedtime – all right?"
He points out that they are 13, and he will be back before bedtime;  he urges her to chill out.   Now he must go,
"You were going before I got up"
but she is concerned that he was going to leave before she got up;  “I didn’t want you to worry,” he tells her,
"Look, everything will be OK, I promise"
“Look, everything will be OK, I promise.”
"You look as if you had a good night"
Eifion passes Eileen outside the shop;  she can tell by his smile that he has had a good night, but he reassures her that he is on his way to Penrhewl now.
"I expect Jim will have another go at me!"
He says he is concerned that Jim will have another go at him,
"Ignore him – that's what I do"
but she advises, “That’s just Jim – ignore him, that’s what I do.”
"I hope that freezer's full!"
As Eifion is about to tell her what happened, Brenda passes on her scooter, remarking, “I hope that freezer’s full – I’m hooked, Eileen.   I’ve given up on trying to get a bikini body!”
"That strawberry icecream – I can't get enough of it!"
She has completely lost Eileen, so explains, “The strawberry icecream – I can’t get enough of it!”
"I'll fetch some more at lunchtime"
Eileen tells her that all the stock is at Penrhewl, and that she will fetch some more at lunchtime.
"I wasn't expecting to see you, Hywel"
Ffion and Gaynor are sitting at the table in Y Felin, and Siôn is surprised that Hywel has also come;
"Hywel Llywelyn joining the board of Cwm Ni?"
Ffion comments incredulously, “Hywel Llywelyn joining the board of Cwm Ni?   Blimey!”
Hywel wants Anita to interview the matron of Bryn Awelon
He is actually there looking for Anita, whom he wants to go to Bryn Awelon [Old People’s Home] for CwmFM, but Siôn reports that she is ill in bed.   Hywel wanted her to get a reaction to the council’s cuts,
"Sorry, mate, you'll have to go yourself"
but Siôn suggests that he will have to go himself.
"You might find a girlfriend there!"
“You’ll enjoy it, Hywel – you might find a girlfriend there!” quips Ffion.
"Says the woman who goes out with someone half her age!"
“Says the woman who goes out with someone half her age – to make herself feel younger!” snarls Hywel, who concludes that he will indeed have to do the job himself.
"Self-help group for people with too much holidays!"
In the doorway, he makes the comment, “You look like a self-help group for people with too much holidays!”
What Ffion really thinks of Hywel
Ffion betrays her dislike for him.
Eifion is at work at Penrhewl
At Penrhewl, Eifion is working on Cae Glas orders, and Eileen thought that Jim had already done that yesterday;
"Have you spoken to Kath?"
Eifion makes the excuse that he was really busy, and asks if Eileen has spoken to Kath.   “I haven’t seen Kath – if I had, what would she have said?” Eileen enquires.
"Jim had a go at her – worse than usual"
She is told that Jim had a go at her, and it was worse than usual;  if he had not been there, he does not know what might have happened.
"He called Ricky a druggie!"
“He was so nasty to her – he called Ricky a druggie!”   Eileen cannot believe it, after all they have been through,
"His moods are like a yo-yo"
and is advised to have a word with Jim;  “His moods are like a yo-yo – and he’s arguing with everyone.”
Eifion is offered £50 by Izzy
Eifion’s phone rings, and he asks if Izzy is feeling better.   She offers him £50 for something, which attracts his attention.
Eileen goes to investigate . . .
Eileen goes across to the barn, and is very disturbed to see Jim,
. . . and finds Jim scoffing icecream
sitting by the freezer, eating ice cream.   “We can’t afford for you to eat all the produce!” she informs him.   He argues that he deserves one, as he is a good worker, so she instructs him to eat the vanilla ones;
"How many have you had?   They're full of sugar!"
“We’re short of the strawberry, and no wonder!   How many have you had?   They’re full of sugar!”
He tries to hide the evidence . . .
He suggests that she should put less sugar in them, while trying to kick some empty cartons out of sight.   Eileen’s eagle eye detects some empty chocolate wrappers,
. . . but in vain
and accuses him, “You’re a sugar addict, Jim!   It all makes sense now – you are arguing with everyone, and I’m having to buy you bigger shirts.”
"Oh, Kath Jones has spoken to you"
“Oh – Kath Jones has spoken to you,” he groans, but she insists that this is about his health;
Eileen warns of dire consequences . . .
he will be ill if he carries on like this.   She warns of heart attack and diabetes, but he is adamant that stress causes things like that;
. . . but he continues eating
“So leave me alone!” as he has another spoonful of icecream.
She replies, “All right, I will leave you alone, as long as you stop eating sugar for a week – you can have as much fruit as you like, just not in icecream!”
He makes a point of consuming a large spoonful
He turns and shows his contempt by eating another large spoonful, but she insists that she means it.
"So you want me to moonlight?"
At Llwyncelyn, Eifion cannot believe that Izzy wants him to moonlight;
"Just take my place at the Kids' Club"
“Just take my place at the Kids’ Club, that’s all,” she tells him, but he protests he cannot just leave Eileen and Jim like that.   She urges him to pretend he is busy somewhere else;
"It's been a lot more popular than I expected"
“This blinking club was my idea, and it’s been a lot more popular than I expected,” she moans,
"If I don't find someone, I'll get the sack!"
“If I don’t find someone with DBS [Disclosure and Barring Service, formerly known as the Criminal Records Bureau], I will get the sack!”
Eifion points out that he does not have one of those, but she begs him to say, if asked, that he does have one;
"You're not as innocent as you look"
he comes to the conclusion that she is not as innocent as she looks, but she emphasises that all the parents are relying on them.   He agrees to do it after his delivery,
"Where's she dashing off to?"
but then she has to rush to the kitchen sink once again.
Hywel arrives at Bryn Awelon
Hywel arrives at Bryn Awelon and says he has arranged to meet the matron;
"I've come to see the matron"
he is told to take a seat, and while there notices a familiar figure walking past.
He sees a familiar figure passing
“Lisa?” he says, disbelievingly, “Lisa Morgan?”   She turns and looks at him, then walks away.
"Sorry, Brenda, you'll have to wait until tomorrow"
Eileen is delivering vegetables to the shop, but has forgotten the icecream, so tells Brenda she will have to wait until tomorrow.   Brenda mutters, “Cold heart – just like the icecream!”
Britt sees Aaron coming back
Britt is sweeping up outside the chip shop when Aaron returns, looking disappointed;
"The boys left half an hour earlier"
“The boys left on a bus half an hour earlier,” he tells her,
"Because you won't buy me a decent phone . . ."
“They created a group chat, but because you won’t buy me a decent phone, I can’t use the app.”
"It's a difficult age"
He goes back to the flat as Ffion is approaching;  she appreciates that it is a difficult age,
"And it will only get worse"
and Britt anticipates that it will only get worse.   She asks if Ffion has time for a cup of tea;
"I've always got time when I'm on holiday"
the reply is that she always has time when she is on holiday.
Jim surreptitiously returns to the barn . . .
Jim returns to the barn, making sure that he is not being watched,
. . . but us somewhat aggrieved to find . . .
but is concerned to see that the freezer
. . . the freezer is firmly secured
has been padlocked.
"Thank you, matron – you've been very helpful"
Hywel has concluded his interview with the matron,
He pursues Lisa Morgan . . .
and again catches sight of Lisa Morgan, so makes a point of following her.
. . . who apparently stole his money and his car
“You’re not getting away that easily this time!” he says, and reminds her that she stole his car and emptied his bank account.   “Have you still got the Porsche?”
"It feels like another life"
She replies that it feels like another life, and that she is there to visit her mother.   When she turns to leave,
"Do you fancy having a meal with me tonight?"
he asks, “Do you fancy having a meal with me?   Tonight?   I might forget about that debt you owe me.”
She is not won over by this approach,
"If you're desperate enough to pay for company . . ."
but says, “If you’re desperate enough to pay for company, you’d better look elsewhere!   I’ve got better things to do, thanks.”
Is Hywel Llywelyn losing his magic touch?
It may at last be getting through to Hywel that he is losing his touch with women.
"Come to help with the mucking out, have you?"
Brenda arrives at Penrhewl, and Jim wonders whether she is there to help muck out;  what she wants is strawberry icecream, which she describes as fantastic.
She also is desperate for an strawberry icecream fix
“I’m angry that I had to come all this way, but I know it’s worth it!   Eileen said I had to wait until tomorrow.”
He explains the situation
Jim is very apologetic but regrets that he cannot give her any icecream;  she points out that she has come all this way, but he admits, “Eileen has put a padlock on the freezer, and I don’t know where the key is.   If Eileen doesn’t want me to find something, that’s that.”
"She's banned me from eating sugar for a week!"
Brenda is very disappointed, but wonders why Eileen does not want him to go to the freezer.   “She’s banned me from eating sugar for a week,” he informs her, “She says I’m an addict!”
"There must be a clause in the Human Rights about that"
Brenda is sure there must be a clause about that in the Human Rights, but he goes on that she has hidden everything;  “Biscuits, cakes – everything!   I don’t know how I’ll cope.”
Brenda has an inviting proposal for him
She says that the scooter battery expired on the drive, so if he will give her and the scooter a lift back to the village, she will buy him a cup of tea and a coffee and walnut cake;  “With a lot of butter icing!”
"Coffee and Walnut cake?"
Jim cannot refuse this invitation.
"I just want him to be safe"
In the chippy flat, Britt tells Ffion, “I don’t care if he hates me, Ffion, I just want him to be safe.”
Aaron is listening in
Aaron has crept out of his room and is listening to the conversation.   “I can’t win,” Britt continues, but Ffion reminds her that they are not supposed to win, a fact of which Arwen reminds her every day.
"You can't let Neville win"
“But you can’t let Neville win either,” Ffion adds.   Britt does not know what to do, predicting that if he gets the phone he wants, he will be off, and she will not have a clue where he is.
"There are phone trackers – aren't there, Aaron?"
Ffion has noticed Aaron eavesdropping, and suggests, “There are things you can put on the phones to track them . . . aren’t there, Aaron?   Would you put an app on your phone so your Mam knows where you are?”
"And be back at a reasonable time"
Britt proposes, “And be back at a reasonable time, and not go with strangers?”   Ffion emphasises that they are both aware of the dangers now,
"I'll do a few shifts in the shop to help pay for it . . ."
and Aaron is willing to help with a few shifts in the shop, to help pay for it.
". . . and even clean the bathroom"
He even agrees to clean the bathroom as well, so Britt can hardly refuse.
He is off to look online for a good deal
He hurries back to his room to look for a good deal online.
Ffion is confident that he will be all right,
"Rhys is having a positive effect on you"
and Britt thinks that Rhys is having a positive effect on her, but she is doubtful about that;
But Ffion thinks otherwise
“Yes, I think the world of him, honestly, but things are not easy, especially with Hywel.   I don’t think he’ll ever just let us be together.”
“Don’t let him ruin things for you – you deserve to be happy,” advises Britt,
"Tell Hywel Llywelyn where to go!"
“Follow your heart for once, and tell Hywel Llywelyn where to go!”
"I might treat you to a Chinese later"
Izzy pays Eifion for his assistance, and he maintains that he deserves every penny;  “Playing with children is hard work, is it?” she teases, and he says he might treat her to a Chinese later.
"There's a bit more colour in your cheeks"
Then Gaynor returns and comments that there is a bit more colour in Izzy’s cheeks;
"Thirty children will sort out a hangover"
“You can rely on us thirty children to sort a hangover out,” Izzy replies.
"When did this parcel arrive?"
Gaynor notices a parcel, and asks when it arrived;  “Mid-afternoon,” Izzy tells her, and her mother wonders who was there to sign for it.
Izzy tries to extricate herself
Izzy lies that she popped home mid-afternoon, just at the right time for the delivery, and then Eifion is asked what he has been doing today.
"Delivering chutney and mucking out"
He lists delivering chutney and mucking out, but Gaynor can see from the condition of his shirt, that he has been painting, colouring and playing with kids.
"They were being looked after by someone unqualified?"
“You have a DBS, I assume?   So there were children at school, being looked after by someone who isn’t qualified?”
"It happens all the time, Mam!"
Izzy argues that it happens all the time, and nothing happened, anyway;  there were two qualified members of staff as well.
"Grow up, Izzy!"
Gaynor is quite incensed, pointing out that parents have put their faith in her;  “If the authorities found out about this, you and Yr Antur could be in big trouble.   Grow up, Izzy!” she shouts, “You have a responsible job now – you can’t just act as you please!”
They both leave . . .
Eifion thinks it is high time that he left, and Izzy will go with him, suggesting, “A hair of the dog might do me a world of good!”
. . . with Gaynor not looking at all happy
They walk out of the house, leaving Gaynor flustered.
"It was depressing!"
In the Deri, Siôn wonders what sort of material Hywel got at Bryn Awelon, and he replies that it was depressing.
"Soon be going back to all those noisy kids!"
Then Ffion comes in, and he remarks that the holidays are almost over for her;  she will have to start preparing to go back to all those noisy kids.
"It must be difficult to constantly be jealous of me"
“It must be difficult to constantly be jealous of me, Hywel,” she says, “Jealous of my holidays, of my relationship.
"Never been jealous of someone who tries to relive their youth"
He maintains, “I’ve never been jealous of anyone who tries to relive their youth.”
"Because you've tried and failed so many times!"
She replies that is because he has tried and failed so many times.
"You'll be fine with Rhys until he finds someone younger"
“Well, I know from experience that the age difference doesn’t work,” he continues, “You’ll be fine with Rhys until he finds someone younger.”
"I'm not letting you come between us!"
She insists that she is not going to let him come between her and Rhys, but he sneers, “You never learn, do you, Ffion?
"Perhaps you don't want to see the signs"
“After everything Gethin did to you, can’t you see the signs?     Perhaps you don’t want to see them.”
She is quite adamant that Rhys is not like him, but he assures her that she is wrong;  “I saw them together in the shop the other night – him and Sioned.”
"Yes, he was staying with Mathew"
Ffion points out that he was staying with Mathew, and Hywel agrees that she is probably right,
"But they did look pretty close"
“But they did look pretty close.”
Ffion tries to look unconcerned . . .
Ffion tries, with difficulty, to look unconcerned,
. . . and Hywel appears pleased with himself
while Hywel appears quite pleased with what he has done.
