Ricky lies motionless . . .
In the hospital, Ricky is in a coma, with his parents and his grandmother beside the bed;
. . . with his mother talking to him
“You know what the doctor said – he’s in a coma,” Mark reminds Debbie, but she still talks to him.
"He has suffered some very serious injuries"
A doctor comes into the room and is asked whether they have had any more results;  “Ricky has suffered some very serious injuries, but the scans are positive – there is no haemorrhaging or bleeding.”   Kath regards that as a good thing, but the doctor continues, “He has cerebral contusion – a bruise on the brain – that’s why we have sedated him.   When he’s ready, we’ll reduce the sedation and hope he comes round on his own.”
"Hope he will come round?"
Debbie does not like the sound of the word ‘hope’, but is assured that they are doing everything they can;  “What came over him?   He must have been so drunk!” she exclaims.
"There was a high level of ecstasy in his blood"
The doctor points out that this was not caused by alcohol;  “There was a high level of ecstasy in Ricky’s blood when he came in.”
"He wouldn't take drugs – he's a sensible boy"
Mark will not accept that Ricky has taken drugs, calling him a sensible boy,
Who encouraged him to go to the party?
and Kath is starting to look worried.
Mark insists that the tests must be wrong.   The doctor says that he is not here to judge, but simply wants Ricky to get better;  he will be back later.   Mark wants him to do the tests again,
"I just want Ricky to be OK!"
but Debbie just wants Ricky to be OK;  at the moment he looks far from being OK.
Sioned is trying to find out information about Ricky
In the shop flat, Sioned is trying to get some information from the hospital;  “I’m phoning to enquire about Ricky Jones – he came in last night.
"No, I'm not family – I just want to know he's OK"
“No, I’m not family, but I just want to know that he is OK.”   They are unwilling to give any information.
Mathew comes in and sits silently;
"They won't tell you anything"
“They won’t tell you anything.”
"They're bound to track the drugs back to me!"
She is convinced that the police are bound to track the drugs back to her, and Mathew nods his head;
"And whose fault is that?"
“And whose fault is that?” he asks, “You said you’d thrown the pills – and what do you do?   Hide them in the bathroom!”
"I'm so sorry, Math!"
In tears, she pitifully sobs how sorry she is, and he advises her to tell the Joneses that;  he gets up and leaves the room.
She realises the enormity of what she has done
Sioned is in a state of desperation.
Garry looks at the tattered remains of the shop blind
Garry looks up at the remains of the shop blind, which has been temporarily tied up with rope, and muses on the events of last night.   His phone sounds, and he tells Dani that he got up early as he could not sleep, and did not want to disturb her.
"It won't do the baby any good, Dan"
“Stay in bed – the shock of last night won’t do the baby any good, you need to rest,” he says,
Mathew approaches from the alley
just as Mathew comes out of the alley.
The postman delivers early in Cwmderi
The postman is on an early round as Garry asks if Mathew has heard anything from the hospital, and Mathew replies that he has not;  “That is the hardest part – not knowing, he laments,
"If only I'd done more to stop him"
“If only I’d done more to stop him.”   Garry says that he cannot blame himself, but Mathew finds it hard not to, but also congratulates Garry about the baby.
"Is Dani OK?   She felt a bit dodgy last time"
“I couldn’t help overhearing – is Dani OK?   She felt a bit dodgy last time.”
Garry assures him that things will be different this time, and although Matthew is happy for them,
Garry refuses to shake Mathew's hand
Garry will not shake his hand.
Mark is very irate about the drugs
At Ricky’s bedside, Mark is pacing up and down, angry that the doctor says his son is on drugs, but is told by his mother to keep his voice down.   “If he’s wrong about the drugs, what else is he wrong about?” Mark rages.
"He stepped off the roof – how else do you explain it?"
Kath knows that he is upset, but reminds him that Ricky stepped off the roof, and how else does he explain that.   “He must have taken something,” but Mark will not entertain the possibility,
"Someone must have spiked his drink"
suspecting that someone spiked his drink, possibly as a prank.
"It was someone at that party!"
“Someone at that party put drugs in his drink!” he stresses,
Then there is a panic as an alarm sounds
but then an alarm sounds on the monitoring equipment, and they call for urgent intervention.
What exactly was Tyler up to last night?
At number 7, Tyler is looking rather guilty, but tries to put on a brave face
Tyler has great plans for today
when Iolo comes in, carrying Greta.   “We’re going to have fun today – we’ll go swimming, have a picnic in the park, and make cakes!” Tyler enthuses.
"Ty, this is about last night"
“Ty, this is about last night,” begins Iolo, “Look, seeing Ricky fall has shaken us all, and you want to keep busy – I understand, but Greta will be shattered.   Ricky must have taken something to jump like that – were there drugs there?”
"I didn't see any drugs"
Tyler replies that he did not see any, but Iolo cannot believe that Ricky would have taken them on his own.
“We don’t know what happened, all right – so there’s no need to discuss it,” Tyler replies curtly,
"We've got some cooking to do, haven't we?"
“You go back to work – we’ve got some cooking to do.”
Iolo hopes that he concentrates this time;  “Last time you made cupcakes, I almost lost a tooth!”
Greta watches Iolo go
He hands Greta over to Tyler and leaves the house.
Garry turns up at the hospital
As the Jones family wait outside the room while the medical team are at work, Garry arrives, and they wonder what he is doing there;
"I had to come – how is he?"
“Sorry, I had to come – how is he?” Garry asks, and Mark shakes his head.
"Ricky's tough – he'll get through this"
“Ricky’s tough –he’ll get through this – you have to stay positive, Garry tells him.”
"What has this got to do with Garry?"
Kath appears to be developing some doubts about Garry.
Sioned makes a start on clearing up
Sioned is clearing up after the party,
"You've got a bigger mess to sort out, don't you think?"
and Mathew remarks, “You’ve got a bigger mess to sort out, don’t you think?”
"What if he dies?   It would be manslaughter!"
“What if he dies?   It would be manslaughter!” she demands,
"Ricky will get through this"
but Mathew encourages her to calm down, maintaining that Ricky is going to get through this.   “If I’d just thrown those pills like you said,” she wails,
"I can't go back to jail, Mathew!'
“I can’t go back to jail, Mathew!” but he says that it will not come to that.
"Go and get some sleep"
He tells her to go and get some sleep, but she is unable to sleep, and he says that she cannot carry on like this;  “Listen, we’ll sort it,” he tells her,
Sioned does not share his optimism
but she is not confident of that.
"I'll find out what's going on"
After the medics have been working for some time, Garry suggests that he will find out what is going on, and further fuels Kath’s suspicions;
"Leave it, Garry – this is family business"
“Leave it, Garry – this is family business,” she says, “How did you get in here, anyway?” and Garry says he told them he was Ricky’s uncle.
"We've been able to stabilise him"
The doctor advises that they have been able to stabilise him, and they can now go back in;  when Garry wants to see him,
"No more than three visitors!"
Kath reminds him, “No more than three next to the bed at a time.”   Mark, however, tells him to come in.
"Ricky, don't frighten us like that again!"
Debbie warns Ricky not to frighten them like that again,
"He has bruising to the brain"
and Mark explains to Garry that he has suffered bruising to the brain.
"They don't know what happened – but I do!"
“They don’t know what happened – but I do – someone put pills in his drink.”   Kath protests that he has no proof of that, but he continues, “I don’t need proof!”
"Stop, Mark – you're upsetting Ricky!"
Debbie tells him to stop, as he is upsetting Ricky.
"What are you doing here, Garry?"
Kath is inquisitive why Garry is there;  “You’re not family, are you?”
"Everyone thinks very highly of him"
He replies that everyone thinks highly of Ricky, and assures them that if he can do anything, they only have to phone.
"Give our regards to Dani and the 'bwmp'!"
Debbie thanks him, and tells him to give their regards to Dani and the bwmp’, and he leaves.
Kath is ever more intrigued about this
Kath seems eager to know what is really going on.
The fairy cakes are put into the oven . . .
Tyler has just put a tray of cakes into the oven,
. . . and Tyler speaks to Iolo on the phone
and is talking to Iolo on the phone;  then there is a knock at the door, and he finds that it is Aled,
Aled walks straight in . . .
who walks straight in,
. . . to the obvious dismay of Tyler
and Tyler looks none too happy about it.
"I'd do anything to swap places with him"
They are dozing off around the bed, and Debbie mutters, “I’d do anything to swap places with him.”
"I'm going to find out who did this!"
Mark comes to the conclusion he cannot do this any longer, but is going to find out who did it.   Debbie insists that he cannot leave Ricky, but he is determined.
Iolo enquires about Sioned
In the shop, Llinos is behind the counter, serving Mathew, when Iolo enquires how Sioned is;
"She must feel terrible – it was her party"
“She must feel terrible – it was her party.”
"You can't blame her for what happened"
Mathew stresses she cannot be blamed for what happened, and adds that last night was a long night.
“I can’t believe that Ricky did something so stupid,” Iolo continues, “It’s not like him – I asked Tyler if he saw anything.”
"Tyler wasn't there – he went home early"
Mathew comments that Tyler was not there, as he went home early – he just left without telling anyone,
Iolo finds this rather unsettling
which Iolo finds rather surprising.
That meeting does not seem to have gone well . . .
Tyler slams the door of number 7 behind Aled, as he leaves, and looks distraught;
. . . and Aled barges into Garry in his haste to get away
outside, Aled does not look any happier, and barges into Garry as he hurries away from the door.   While Tyler is still standing by the door, the smoke alarm sounds,
Smoke emits for the oven . . .
and he finds that the oven is full of smoke;  the cakes are ruined,
. . . and the cakes are dropped on the floor
and he drops them on the floor.   He is in a terrible state.
"I'm not feeling too special, Tes"
Mathew has brought one pint of milk up to the flat, and when Tesni phones him, he gives the excuse that he is not feeling too special, so she had better stay away.
"Where is she, then?"
Mark has come into the flat unnoticed, and demands, “Where is she?   I want a word with both of you.”   Mathew lies that Sioned is at Penrhewl,
"I want to find out who spiked Ricky's drink!"
and Mark goes on, “They found drugs in his blood – someone spiked his drink and I want to find out who it was!”
"There were a lot of people there, Mark"
Mathew insists that he did not see anything, pointing out that there were a lot of people there;  “Did you see him talking to anyone?” Mark wants to know,
"Try to remember – it's important!"
“Try to remember – because it’s important!”
"Perhaps he took something"
“How do you know it was spiked?   Perhaps he took something,” Mathew suggests, but Mark will not entertain the possibility,
"You know something, don't you?"
and can see by Mathew’s expression that he knows something.
“I’m not going anywhere until you tell me!” he insists.
"There's been a problem – an accident"
At the foot of the stairs in the Deri, Garry is talking on the phone;  “Hold back on the order – there’s a problem – an accident.
"Leave it with me – I'll sort it"
“Leave it with me – I will sort it.”
"I didn't see anyone being spiked!"
Mathew is becoming angry, “I didn’t see anyone being spiked!” but Mark is convinced that he is lying, and demands who he is protecting.
"I'm not protecting anyone!"
“I’m not protecting anyone, and that’s it!” Mathew shouts,
"It was you, wasn't it?"
so Mark assumes he is in fact the guilty one.
"He wasn't spiked – it was an accident!"
At this point, Sioned intervenes, informing Mark that Mathew is telling the truth; Ricky wasn’t spiked – it was an accident!
"It was my fault!"
“It was my fault!”
Mark cannot believe it
Mark is aghast.
Tyler is washing-up
Iolo returns home, where Tyler is doing the washing-up,
"I saw Mathew – you left the party early"
and then produces a dozen perfect cakes.   Iolo begins, “I saw Mathew in the shop earlier – he said you left the party early.
"It wasn't important"
You didn’t say,” but Tyler did not consider it important.   He maintains that he just came home as he was tired.
"You said you'd been on the street the whole time"
“When Ricky was on the roof, you said you’d been on the street the whole time,” Iolo goes on, so Tyler maintains that he came home, heard a noise and went to investigate;
Tyler is becoming worried
he is disturbed by all the questions, but Iolo explains that he must have misunderstood.   He suggests trying the cakes,
"I can't deceive you like this"
but is told, “I can’t deceive you like this –
He did not make the cakes at all
“you were right, I can’t make cakes!”   He displays the wrapper from the fairy cakes he has bought.
"Ricky could die because of you!"
Having heard the whole story, Mark emphasises, “Ricky could die because of you!”   She asks what he is going to do now,
"Please don't go to the police!"
begging him not to go to the police, as she would go straight back to prison.
"I'm worried about Ricky, not you!"
“I’m worried about Ricky, not you!” Mark snarls.
"If I'd thought he would find them . . ."
She explains, “If I thought for a second fact Ricky would find those pills, I would never have brought them back to the flat – I’m so sorry!”
"Just tell me who sold you those pills!"
Mark reveals that he has no intention of going to the ‘pigs’;  “But I do want to find out who sold you the pills – just tell me!” he demands, and at first she says she has no idea, but he continues, “They didn’t just come from a fairy, did they?”
"Ricky is fighting for his life!"
She answers that it was a friend of a friend, and he insists that he wants a name;  “Ricky is in hospital, fighting for his life, while this lowlife is free.”
"Jamie – from that estate outside Cwrtmynach"
Sioned gives the name, “Jamie – I don’t know the rest of his name – but he lives on that estate outside Cwrtmynach.”
Mark has probably delivered letters there
Mark knows the place – Bryn Efydd – but she warns he really cannot go up there.
"That scum has ruined our lives!"
“That scum has ruined our lives!” he snarls,
"They could be dangerous, Mark!"
but Mathew points out he does not know these guys, and they could be dangerous,
Mark heads for Cwrtmynach
but, nevertheless, he leaves.
