Diane is thinking
Diane is drinking a cup of tea and looking pensive
Kath brings bacon rolls for breakfast
 when Kath brings her a bacon roll, but she refuses it;
"They haven't got any croissants, have they?"
Brenda complains, “They haven’t got any croissants, have they?   I don’t like greasy food in the morning.”
Anita wonders where Cassie is, and is told that she has gone for a walk;  apparently she has turned her phone off, which is considered odd.
"Perhaps we should go and look for her"
Jason says that perhaps they should go and look for her,
"You'd be better off looking for Sara!"
but his mother curtly suggests, “You’d be better off looking for Sara!”
Jason glowers at his mother . . .
He finishes his cup of tea, then, after glowering at Diane,
. . . and walks off without a word
turns away from them, heading towards the woods.
Gwyneth is not happy . . .
Gwyneth is looking very concerned and is startled by a knock at the door;
. . . and Garry's arrival does not help matters
it is Garry, who has come to collect Gwern’s swimming things and goggles for tonight.
"I can take him"
She says that she will take him, but he insists that Dani is going to do that.
"He must be missing me, Garry!"
“Please, Garry, let me see him – he must be missing me!” she wails,
"Well, he hasn't said so"
but he replies that Gwern has not said as much.   “You’re enjoying this – watching me suffer,” she goes on,
"Remember, you're the one messing with drugs!"
but he reminds her that she was the one messing with drugs, and orders her to go and fetch Gwern’s stuff.
Cassie makes slow progress through the wood . . .
Out in the woodland, Cassie is laboriously dragging her case through all the leaves
. . . and is in a tearful state
and is looking downcast;  meanwhile, as Llinos and Madge are reading,
"Come on, Diane – eat this roll!"
and Beti appears to be photographing the flowers with her phone, Kath exhorts Diane to eat the roll, but she protests that she is not hungry.
"You can have no idea how I feel!"
“I know exactly how you feel,” Kath sympathises, but is rather abruptly told that Mark and Debbie are happy, so she can have no idea how Diane feels.   Discovering that is her attitude, Kath walks away,
"Sorry, Kath – come back"
but then Diane apologises, and pleads with Kath to come back.
"I really thought they would go the distance"
“You know, I really thought, after everything Jason and Sara have been through, they would go the distance,” Diane groans,
"They may get back together even yet"
and Kath points out that they may yet get back together.
"I should have done more to help"
Diane thinks she should have done more to help;  “Done more babysitting – given them more opportunities to be on their own.   We’re all on top of each other.”
Kath assures her that she and Dai have done everything for those two;
"I think these youngsters give up too easily!"
“You’ve put a roof over their heads, fed them, looked after Ifan – I think these youngsters give up too easily!   Look at what you and Dai have been through – Dyff and I stuck together – we had hard times, up and down, but we always came back to each other – like homing pigeons.”
"I hope Jason and Sara will do that"
Diane hopes that Jason and Sara will do the same, and Kath has a feeling that is what they will do;
"That's Carmarthenshire's best bacon!"
she urges, “Now, for heaven’s sake, eat this roll – that’s Carmarthenshire’s best bacon.”
Gwyneth has found a thousand pounds from somewhere
Gwyneth comes to the Deri flat, bringing Garry some money;  “There’s a thousand pounds – to show you that I’m serious about paying you back.”
"I thought you needed every penny to pay Jessie!"
He enquires where she has suddenly found this money, as the other day she needed every penny to pay Jessie.
“I’m trying here, Garry,” she whines, and maintains that she had some money put by.
"This won't make me change my mind!"
He makes it clear that it will not make him change his mind about her seeing Gwern, puts it in his pocket and walks away.
"You're such a hypocrite, Garry!"
She shouts after him, “You’re such a hypocrite, Garry – all the dodgy things you done over the years, the people you put in danger!”   He replies that he has never done it to children, but she reminds him about Chester and the gun.
"That's nothing, compared with what you did!"
“That’s nothing, compared with what you did!” he snarls,
"What's going on here?"
and then Dani comes up the stairs and wants to know what is going on;  Garry says that Gwyneth is just leaving,
"I only want to spend some time with Gwern"
and she begs Dani that she might spend some time with Gwern.
"I thought you wanted us to have him"
“I thought you wanted us to have him for a while,” says Dani, puzzled;
"Gwyneth has something to tell you"
Garry announces that Gwyneth has something to tell her.
Jason hears a sound out in the wood
Out in the woodland, Jason is in search of Cassie
"Cassie, is that you?"
when he hears some sobbing,
He locates her, under a tree
and discovers Cassie sitting by a tree, in floods of tears;  he asks if she is all right.
"What's wrong with you – messing with drugs?"
Dani has now been appraised of Gwyneth’s situation and demands, “What’s wrong with you – messing with drugs?”
She angrily replies that she needed the money;
"You were going to throw me out of the salon – I was desperate!"
“You said you were going to throw me out of the salon – I was desperate!”   Garry resents the fact that she is putting the blame on him,
"Always got an excuse, haven't you?"
and Dani points out that she has always got an excuse.   “When Debbie said I could . . .” Gwyneth begins, then realises what she has said.
"Debbie's been dealing too?"
“Debbie?   She’s been dealing too?” Garry asks, incredulously, “You two need your heads knocking together!”
"So Debbie's drugs put Ricky in hospital?"
Dani realises that she is saying Debbie’s drugs put Ricky in hospital.
"It's happened, it's over, and Gwern's safe!"
Gwyneth tries to convince them that she regrets ever being part of it;  “But it happened, it’s over, and Gwern’s safe!
Please, Garry, let me see him!"
“Please, Garry, let me see him!”
"The answer is no, Gwyneth!"
Garry sternly repeats that his answer is no, and tells her to go home;
"You heard what he said, Gwyneth!"
her appeals to Dani produce the same result, and she has no choice but to go.
"We're supposed to be a family, Garry!"
Dani makes it abundantly clear to Garry that he should have told her about Gwern;  “We’re supposed to be a family!” she growls.
"Sorry I had a go at you yesterday"
Under the tree, Jason apologises for having a go at Cassie yesterday, as he was angry, but she explains that is not what is troubling her.   “I’ve been struggling for a while,” she says.
"Were you going to catch a bus home?"
Jason wonders how she was expecting to get home;  “By catching a bus?”   She reveals that she was thinking about leaving, going somewhere else, starting afresh.
"Your secrets are safe with me"
She does not know why, but he assures her that she can talk to him, and he promises not to say a word;  “I’ve got a terrible memory, so your secrets are safe with me!”
"I feel so lonely"
“I feel lonely,” she confesses, “Despite being in the middle of people all the time.”   He appreciates what that is like, as he has been there, and explains to her his gambling problem.
"I felt like the loneliest person in the world"
“When I was at my worst, even in a room full of people, I felt like the loneliest person in the world,” he reveals,
"Do you fancy starting to walk?"
“Right, do you fancy starting to walk?”
He helps Cassie to her feet
and he helps her to her feet.   As he picks up the case, he exclaims,  “Good grief, what have you got in this case!”
"I'm going to the police – they need to know about all this!"
Dani is going out, and Garry enquires where;  “I’m going to the police – they need to know about Gwyneth, about the drugs, about the will – we’ve kept quiet about that for long enough!
"What could have happened makes me sick!"
“Garry, what happened on Tuesday – or what could have happened – makes me sick!”
"The Monks never go to the police!"
Garry shares Dani’s anger about Gwyneth, but stresses, “The Monks never go to the police!”   Dani thinks that they should this time, but he urges her to wait for a minute;  “If we go to the police, Jessie’s crew will come after us.
"I gave her the money – and she's dangerous!"
“I know that, because I gave her the money – and she’s dangerous!   I don’t deny that Debbie and Gwyneth deserve to be punished – but there are other ways of doing that.”
"So you'll do it the 'Monks' Way'?"
She predicts that it will be the ‘Monks’ Way’, and he urges her to think about Gwern;  “Everybody in the school knowing his mother’s a drug dealer – would you do that to him?
"Let's deal with this as a family, Dan!"
“Dani, I know how you feel – honestly, I do – but please, let’s deal with this as a family, for Gwern’s sake!”
"They says that trees are good for you"
As they walk through the woods, Jason tells Cassie, “They say that trees are good for you,” and she wonders what gobbledygook he has been reading;  “Apparently they do ‘Forest Bathing’ in Japan,” he continues,
"When I hit rock bottom . . ."
“Look, Cassie, I know it’s not easy to talk, but I want you to know I understand.   When I hit rock bottom, I’d dug myself into a right hole – and I couldn’t see my way out.
". . . that's when I decided to end it all"
“That was when I decided to take my own life, put an end to it all.   If Mam and Sara hadn’t been there for me . . .”
Cassie stops him there, pointing out that he has misunderstood;
"I'm not thinking about committing suicide!"
“I’m not thinking about committing suicide – I just want to escape.   I’ve found a lump in my breast – I knew it would happen one day, because that’s how Mam died.”
Jason asks if she has been to see a doctor, and she replies that she has a hospital appointment, but the thought of going by herself is upsetting her.   Jason suggests that her daughter, Mai, could go with her,
"Mai and I are not on good terms"
but is informed that they have argued and are not on good terms – she does not have any other family.
Diane is still deep in thought
Diane is deep in thought while Anita is talking about writing a trilogy of books;
"They could be turned into blockbuster films!"
DJ thinks that is a good idea, as they could be turned into blockbuster films.   Kath goes across to Diane, asking her to join them,
"No, I prefer to be alone"
but she prefers to be alone.
"Come on – everyone's enjoying themselves"
“Come on, Diane – you organised all this, and everyone’s enjoying themselves.”
"Enjoying themselves more without me!"
She suspects they are enjoying themselves more without her, and sighs, “Where’s Jason?   That boy’s driving me mad!”
"The break with Sara was not Jason's idea"
Kath thinks that Diane ought to know that the break with Sara was not Jason’s idea;  “DJ said Jason did his best to try to get her to change her mind.
"Why didn't he tell me?"
Diane wonders why he did not tell her this, and is informed that she has not given the boy a chance to talk.
"Think how hard this is on Jason"
“This might be hard on you, but think how hard it is on Jason, poor dab,” Kath emphasises.
Diane still does not have the heart to go and join the others, predicting that everyone will be asking questions, but Kath assures her that this will not be the case;  “They all will feel sorry for you as a family.”
They sit, overlooking a lake
Cassie and Jason are sitting on a bench near a lake, and she apologises for yesterday;  he tells her to forget it,
"Do you still want to run away?"
and asks if she still wants to run away,
"I can't run away from my problems"
but she by now realises that she cannot run away from her problems.
"I've got plenty of problems to face as well"
“I’ve got plenty of problems to face as well,” he says, “What we need to do now is it go back and sort them.”   Cassie calls him a very kind person,
"Let's stay here a little longer"
and would like to stay in that idyllic spot for a few more minutes.
"All I've got to look forward to is a mouthful from Mam"
Jason comments, “All I’ve got to look forward to is a mouthful from Mam,
They sit there, enjoying the peace of the countryside
“so I’m in no rush!”
Gwern returns unexpectedly from school
Dani and Garry are surprised by the sudden arrival of Gwern in the Deri flat.   He says that he does not want to be in school, explaining, “I’m worried about Mam’s leg,”
"Forget about what happened on Tuesday"
but Garry insists that she is fine, and advises him to forget about what happened on Tuesday.
"You're not allowed to walk by yourself"
“I’ve told you, you can’t leave school without me – and you’re not allowed to walk by yourself without Dani or me,” Garry goes on, “You never know who . . .”
"That's enough for now, Garry"
but at this point Dani tells him to leave it for now.   Gwern tells them he is sorry, and they will both take him back to school,
"You don't want any trouble from the teachers, do you?"
as he does not want any trouble from the teachers.
"We'll have pizza tonight – with pepperoni!"
Dani offers the incentive of pizza tonight, with pepperoni, which persuades Gwern agree to their suggestion, but he needs to visit the toilet first.
"That's why he can't walk by himself"
“He has no idea of what is going on, does he?” says Dani, and Garry stresses that is why he cannot be allowed to walk by himself.
"Do the right thing and call the police!"
Dani still insists, “If you want to help him, Garry, do the right thing, and call the police.”   He is quite adamant that the answer is still no.
The wanderers have returned . . .
Cassie and Jason return to the rest of the group, and DJ remarks, “If I knew you were going for a hike, I would have come with you.”
. . . and are told they have missed a lot of fun
Kath maintains that they have missed a lot of fun, and points out that Anita has written the next Star Wars.
Jason prepares for the wrath of his mother . . .
Jason goes to face his mother,
. . . but finds apologies instead
but is surprised that she says, “Sorry – I haven’t been fair with you.
"Dai and I will be there for you, you know that"
“The truth is, I’m nearly heart-broken, and I can’t show it in front of everyone.   You must be going through hell!   But, whatever happens, Dai and I will be there for you, you know that.”
"I'm going to fight with every once of energy I have!"
Jason wants to know how he is going to get Sara back;  “I’m going to fight with every ounce of energy I have – I’m still here because of her and Ifan!   It’s time for me to support them now.”
Gwern has been returned to school without any repercussions
Garry and Dani have returned Gwern to school, and Gaynor now understands the situation;  “It upsets me when I see Gwern doing something like that – leaving school!” says Garry,
Dani will make sure Gwern is kept busy this weekend
and Dani will make sure that he plays a lot with Seren and helps her in the kitchen this weekend.
"While she's in the village, she'll always cause trouble for us – and Gwern"
“Gwyneth doesn’t learn her lesson from one year to the next,” he complains, “While she’s in the village, she’ll always cause trouble for us – and for Gwern.”
Dani is concerned to hear his next pronouncement
As they are about to get into the car,
"The time has come, Dan – she has to go!"
he announces, “The time has come, Dan – she has to go!”
