Hywel hobbles along the street
Hywel notices Ffion in the street and goes across to speak to her;  “Haven’t you got school today, then?” he asks.
"I've been busy all weekend"
She replies that Gaynor wants her to go through a batch of reports, and alleges that she has been busy all weekend.
"Is that why you didn't answer your phone?"
“Is that why you didn’t answer your phone yesterday?” Hywel enquires.
"I forgot about it"
“I saw that you had phoned, but with getting Arwen ready for school, I forgot about it,” she lies;  he says that he just wanted to make sure she was all right, and to ask if she would like to go for a meal at Tapas or the Deri some time.
"Look, I'd better get back to those reports"
She does not appear eager, maintaining she has a lot on at the moment, and is in a hurry to get back to those reports.
"Coffee is one of the first things I've gone off"
In the café, Kelly tells Cassie that coffee is one of the first things she has gone off;  “That’s not ideal when you run a café!   And I’ve gone off my favourite perfume – what a waste – I’ve got two full bottles!”
"Americano, please, Kelly"
Then Hywel comes in and orders an Americano, which Kelly is not happy about.
"George Clooney has let me down again!"
He sits down by Cassie, who comments, “George Clooney has let me down again!   You look very happy – like a dog with two tails – are you going to tell me, then?”
"It's nothing major"
He replies that it is nothing major,
He cannot manage to keep it to himself
but cannot resist divulging, “I think Ffion enjoyed a kiss we had in Gower as much as I did.”   Cassie says that she is happy that he is not heartbroken over her, but advises him not to rush into anything.
"There's a lot of water under that bridge"
“There’s a lot of water under that bridge,” she reminds him, “Be cautious, as Mam would say.”   He is of the opinion that he and Ffion understand each other – they have a lot of history;
"It would be easy to rekindle that fire"
Cassie comments that it would be easy to rekindle that fire.
"Are you ready for your afternoon off?"
As Kelly brings over Hywel’s coffee, Ed comes in and embraces her;  “Right, are you ready for your afternoon off?” he says,
"Let's get away from the smell of coffee"
but she protests that she has a café to run.   Hywel congratulates them on their good news, and Kelly tells Ed she would like to go to the park, to get away from the smell of coffee.
"Go on, then – there's still no sign of George Clooney"
Hywel offers to buy Cassie lunch, and she says she might as well, as there is still no sign of George Clooney.
Brenda is working on a jigsaw pussle
At number 10, Brenda is working on a jigsaw puzzle when Gerwyn returns home
"Like Victor Meldrew going to his own funeral!"
to collect his lunchbox;  “You left this morning like Victor Meldrew going to his own funeral!” she claims, “Your sandwiches are in the fridge – and if you find some happiness, grab that too!   We all know exactly how you feel!”
"That's it – run away!"
As he opens the door, his mother goes on, “That’s it – run away!   You’ve been miserable all weekend – I’ve had enough – you’re being completely selfish!
"Tesni's ill again, with the colitis!"
“The way you parade around, feeling sorry for yourself, upsets everyone – especially Tesni!   She’s not all right – she’s ill again, with the colitis.”
He is sure that Jaclyn would have told him,
"Jac insisted that we hide it from you"
but his mother informs him, “Jac insisted that we hide it, to make you feel better.   Tesni should be the important one, not you!   You’re making her ill, Ger – it’s time to pull yourself together!”
"I didn't come here for a lecture!"
He moans that he came home for his sandwiches, not to have a lecture, and angrily walks out of the back door.
Ffion's work on the laptop. . .
Ffion is working on the laptop when the buzzer sounds, and Jason would like a word with her;
. . . is interrupted by Jason
“I read that article you mentioned about ‘mindfulness’,” he says,
"Sorry, I'm disturbing you"
“Sorry, I’m disturbing you.”   Ffion says she is not getting very far with her work, so he is not disturbing anything important, and she will make a cup of tea.
"I can't concentrate"
“I can’t concentrate,” she tells him,
"This friend of mine has got herself in a pickle"
and begins to explain, “A friend of mine has got herself in a pickle.”
"Out with it – I'm all ears!"
He encourages her to talk about it, reminding her that she has listened to him enough.
"That's OK – you go, Kelly"
In the café, Ed urges Kelly to come with him, as the rush is now over;  “Gwen is fine on her own, so we can go for a walk.”   Gwen encourages them to go, so Kelly will get her coat.
"Sorry to bring you down to earth . . ."
Cassie is still talking to Hywel, “I don’t want to bring you down to earth, but I would like to mention one thing – Griffiths.
"Griffiths has plans for Pwll Bach"
“He has plans for Pwll Bach, he wants to double the business, and he’s pretty ambitious.”   Hywel thinks he should have asked for more money.
"He's offered me a job, running the place"
Cassie goes on, “The thing is, he’s offered me a job, running the place more or less – it would be a handy job – but I know he’s not the nicest guy in the world.”
"He's a sly little weasel!"
Hywel’s description of him is, “A sly little weasel – but it would be lovely to have you around again.   I would think very carefully before accepting anything he offers – be cautious!”
"She has been rather thoughtless, or even hasty"
Ffion continues her mythical tale, “The truth is, she has been rather thoughtless – hasty, even.
"I don't know why she kissed the boy's father"
“I don’t know why she kissed the boy’s father in the first place.”
"Not the wisest thing to do"
Jason agrees that it was not the wisest thing to do;  “Especially as he is an ex-partner, this guy.”
"It was just impulsive"
She maintains that it was just impulsive, and Jason remarks, “So Hywel doesn’t suspect anything?
Jason has easily seen through this subterfuge
“Ffion, it’s obvious that you’re the friend, and you’re talking about Hywel and Rhys!   Don’t worry – I won’t say a word to anyone.   Perhaps you have been a bit hasty, but everyone deserves a bit of fun.”
"Yes, it was meant to be a bit of fun"
She points out that fun is what it was meant to be, but now she has complicated things and totally confused herself.   Jason offers his advice;  “Tell Rhys, before he finds out from someone else – you know what people around here are like.”
"I suppose that's the only answer"
Ffion thinks that this is the only answer, and wonders how she has made such a mess of things.
"I've got a lot of experience in making a mess of things"
“Don’t worry, I’ve got a lot of experience in making a mess of things,” he reminds her, “If I was in your shoes, I would tell Rhys – just be honest.”
"Our baby will be the happiest in the whole world!"
As they walk to the park, Ed remarks, “You do know that our baby will be the happiest in the whole world?   Definitely – with a mother like you!”
"There's a long way to go yet"
Kelly points out there is a long way to go, and the first scan is not until next week. He is convinced that everything will be perfect.
"I'm nervous – and excited – and scared!"
“But a lot can go wrong, Ed,” she cautions, “I’m a bit nervous, that’s all – and excited!   And a bit scared.”
Ed hands her a book of Welsh Names for Children
He takes a book from his pocket, ‘Welsh Names for Children’,
"Carts before horses, and all that stuff"
and she considers it to be rather early;  “Carts before horses, and all that stuff!”
"I'm sure there's a lovely name for him in there"
Ed is sure that there is a lovely name for him in there;  “Him?   Who says it’s a him?   We don’t know yet,” Kelly reminds Ed.
Ed declares, “He or she will be perfect – our baby, Kel – imagine it!”
Ffion has just got back to work . . .
Ffion has returned to her work on the laptop,
. . . then receives texts from . . .
when a text arrives from Hywel, enquiring how the work is going,
. . . both of the Mr Llywelyns
and it is followed by another shortly afterwards, this time from Rhys, asking if he will see her later.
She is becoming exasperated
She looks exasperated, and hides the phone under a pile of papers.
"Arthur what?"
“Don’t say you’re going to insist on something totally unpronounceable,” says Kelly,” and he replies that he quite likes Arthfael Bledig [apparently meaning ‘immovable’] and she exclaims, “Arthur what?
"What's wrong with Sian, Tom or Jac?"
Some of these names are incredible – what’s wrong with – I don’t know – Sian, Tom, Jac?   We’ve got plenty of time anyway, haven’t we?”
"I'm just so happy, Kel!"
“I’m sorry that you think I’m going a bit over the top – I’m just so happy!” Ed declares, “I can’t believe how life can change so quickly – I can’t wait to be a father!   I’ve done the best thing in my life by marrying you,
"A new start for the three of us"
“and it is a new start for the three of us.”
"That aftershave's a bit strong!"
Hywel comes downstairs and Rhys complains that his aftershave is a bit strong;  “Perhaps it has been at the back of the cupboard for too long,” his father concedes.
Rhys is willing his phone to ring
Rhys is looking intently at his phone, and Hywel comments that he has not been himself all day;  he replies that he is just bored, but does not want to go for a meal in the Deri,
"I'm hoping to meet a friend"
as he is hoping to meet a friend.
“I owe you a meal to thank you for babysitting Esther and Arwen –
"Let your old man buy you steak and chips!"
“put that phone down, and let your old man buy you steak and chips!” Hywel insists, “It’s the best offer you’ll get tonight!”
"That was lovely"
Kelly has greatly enjoyed her meal in the Deri,
"Sorry, Kel, not coffee!"
but when Ed suggests coffee, she grimaces;
Gerwyn looks pretty miserable
he goes to the bar for the bill and sees Gerwyn, looking depressed.
"Drowning your sorrows?"
“You look like you’re drowning your sorrows,” he says,
"Just a quiet pint after work"
but Gerwyn replies that it is just a quiet pint after work.
Ed cannot resist passing on the good news
Ed reveals that they are celebrating expecting their new baby, as half the village already knows.   “Make the most of a quiet evening at home –
"You won't have many quiet evenings when the baby arrives"
“you won’t have many when the baby arrives,” Gerwyn warns them.
Garry also congratulates them
Garry also offers his congratulations.
"She'll be busy with Arwen"
Hywel and Rhys have just arrived, and Hywel suggests that he could also invite Ffion;  “She will be busy with Arwen,” Rhys reminds him, but his father cannot resist telling him the news.
"Your old man hasn't lost his 'mojo'!"
“Something happened while we were away – let’s just say your old man hasn’t lost his mojo’ yet!    And Ffion remembers how to kiss, I can tell you that!”
A look of perturbation
Rhys looks somewhat perturbed.
"You don't have to wait on me hand and foot!"
As soon as they arrive back in the flat, Ed is busy, making Kelly a cup of tea;  “Come and sit down – “you don’t have to wait on me hand and foot – you’ll drive me bonkers!”
He gives her a present
He gives her a present, a little baby’s garment,
"It's too much, Ed!"
which she thinks is just too much.   He sits down beside her, and she says, “I understand that you’re excited,
"Just slow down, please"
“but just slow down, please.   I need some more time to adjust, you know.   You do understand, don’t you?   But it is lush to see you so happy!”
"You were very quiet today"
At the bar, Garry remarks that Gerwyn was very quiet at the garage today,
"Domestic hassles"
and is told that there are domestic hassles.   Garry was going to ask him a favour, but if there are problems at home, he is reluctant to do so.
"My friend Malcolm phoned from Birmingham"
“My friend Malcolm has just phoned – he runs the big car auction on the outskirts of Birmingham, and there are going to be lots of bargains, apparently.
"I'd like you to come with me"
“I thought you’d like to come with me, tomorrow until Thursday.   You could see how big auctions work – but if things are awkward at home . . .”
Gerwyn relishes the thought of a road trip;
"Jaclyn will be glad to get rid of me!"
“Jaclyn will be glad to get rid of me – they all will!
"Nine o'clock in the morning?"
“Right, I’d better pack.”
Griffiths continues chatting up Cassie
Griffiths is talking to Cassie;  “One thing that is key to life and business is a solid partnership – ‘Behind every great man’ – that sort of thing.   That’s one thing Hazel never understood, you see – my Dad said on the day we married that she would be more hassle than help.
"Am I ordering a bottle of bubbly?"
“So, Cassie, am I ordering a bottle of bubbly, to celebrate our new understanding?”
Cassie wants more time to think
She replies, “It’s a very generous offer, but I'm still not sure.   I think I need more time to consider the implications.”
"A classy woman like you organising things"
He insists that having a classy woman like her organising everything would be huge coup for the business – and for him.   This prompts her to finally make her decision;
"Thanks, but no thanks!"
“The answer is no – Blackpool is my home, and it’s where I belong!   Thanks, but no thanks!”
Griffiths thinks he must be losing his touch
He is disappointed and predicts that they could have created something special.   Hywel comes across
"How are things on planet Griffiths?"
and asks him, “How are things on planet Griffiths these days?”   The answer is that things are going from strength to strength, as, in the background, Rhys continue to look anxiously at his phone.
"Has someone left the ladies' boudoir door open?"
Griffiths sarcastically comments, “Has someone left the door to the ladies boudoir open – or is that you, Hywel?”
"I'm going, Dad"
Rhys has decided he does not want another drink and is leaving.
"Is that meant to be aftershave?"
Garry remarks, “What is that smell?   Is it meant to be aftershave?”
They both look pretty young
Ffion is looking through photographs of her wedding to Hywel;  then Rhys arrives.
"What have you been doing, Ffion?"
“What have you been doing, Ffion?” he demands, “Kissing Dad?   You said there was nothing between you –
Rhys has a very high opinion of his own attractiveness
“I don’t have to hang around waiting for you to see me – there are plenty of girls who would go out with me!”
"I had not intended to kiss him"
She urges him to stop talking and listen;  she had not intended to kiss Hywel, but it just happened, and she assures him it did not mean anything.
"Dad clearly thinks differently!"
Rhys snarls, “Tell Dad that, then – he clearly thinks differently.   He’s talking like you’re in a relationship!   It doesn’t matter, Ffion – what’s wrong with you?”
"Don't go, Rhys!"
She pleads with him not to go,
"If you have feelings for Dad – it's over between us!"
but he maintains, “You’ve crossed a line, and if you have any feelings for Dad, it’s over between us, OK?”
Ffion thinks she did not handle that very well
He leaves, and Ffion is frustrated.
