1 April 2019

Ed is asleep in his hospital bed . . .
In the hospital, Ed is asleep
. . . while Kelly anxiously waits . . .
with Kelly sitting anxiously by his bedside;
. . . and feels her stomach
she feels her stomach, but it is too early to detect any signs of life.   She looks at Ed.
"Things are difficult for Britt"
Out in the village street, Gaynor is talking to Garry about Ed’s predicament, and also asks about Britt;  “She’s doing well,” he replies, “But things are difficult for her.”   At that moment Britt emerges from the Deri,
"Chips don't cook themselves, Garry!"
informing him that chips do not cook themselves;  he runs after her, wanting her to go back to the Deri for a chat.
“I don’t have time for a chat!” she snarls, but he manages to prevail and escorts her back inside.
"You're too cowardly to phone me back!"
At the other end of the street, Jim shouts to Hywel, “Why aren’t you answering your phone?   You’re too cowardly to phone back!
"Why won't you let Penrhewl have a cut?"
“Come on, why won’t you let Penrhewl have a cut from the electricity?   You’ll make a fortune and we’ll have nothing!!”
Hywel points out that they will have a share of everything else;
"The electricity is where all the profit is!"
“But not the electricity – and that’s where the profit is!” Jim continues, “I know it, and you know it – I expect you to do something about it!”   Hywel insists there is nothing he can do, and walks away, much to Jim’s disgust.
"You can't stop me going to work!"
In the Deri flat, Britt protests, “You can’t stop me going to work,”
"You said you were going to see the doctor"
and Garry reminds her she said that she was going to see the doctor.   “I am, later on this afternoon,” she answers, but he does not want her rushing around in the meantime.
"They'll say I'm depressed and put me on tablets"
She exclaims, “I know the drill – they’ll say I’m depressed and put me on tablets – but that won’t stop me from working.   You should be pleased I want to go back – I’ve already lost the weekend business!”
Dani points out that Garry is only trying to help, and he orders Britt that if she is staying there, she is going to rest;
"Take that coat off!"
“Take that coat off!”   She tells Dani that her husband is a control freak, and she has a business to run.
"Something has happened, hasn't it?"
“I know you want to carry on like nothing’s happened – but something has happened, hasn’t it?” demands Dani, “Keeping Aaron at home last week was a big deal –
"You're not yourself – look at you"
“I know you’re a bit better, but you’re not yourself – look at you.”
Britt says that Dani just does not understand;
"They'll take Aaron off me!"
“I have to carry on as normal, or they’ll take Aaron off me!   I can’t lose Aaron!”   Dani emphasises that no-one has done more for her children than Britt;
"You got to take things easy"
she should stop worrying and take things easy, so she has time to recover properly.
Dani hugs Britt
She gives Britt a hug.
"All I get these days are complaints!"
Downstairs, at the bar, where Hywel has spread out some paperwork about Pwll Bach, he complains, “I don’t know – all I get these days are complaints about the place!”   Garry can see that it will all be worthwhile in the future;
"The distant future!"
“The distant future,” sneers Hywel, as Jim is keeping a careful eye on him, while pretending to read the paper.
“My accountant said yesterday that it will take years for things to kick in,” Hywel warns,
"Don't rush into anything"
and Garry advises him not to rush into anything.   Then Hywel has a twinge of pain in his leg, and explains he has done something to his knee.
"You old crock – go and see the physio"
Garry refers to him as, “An old crock!   Go and see the physio – it will only get worse.”   Rhys comes in for an orange juice, and asks his father if they are still going for a run later.
"I've said all I've got to say!"
Hywel turns and addresses Jim, “I’ve said all I’ve got to say!” he snarls.
Eifion arrives, and is surprised to see Jim there;
"I've come for the buckets you were supposed to get"
he has come down especially to get the buckets from APD which Jim was supposed to be collecting,
"Sorry, boy – I forgot"
and had forgotten.   “I’m running Penrhewl on my own these days!” moans Eifion,
Hywel smirks at Jim
and Hywel laughs at Jim.
"I'll just work part-time, Gar"
Britt tells Garry she is willing to work part-time hours, and just wants to get better;
"We all want you to get better"
he confirms that is what they all want.
Izzy suddenly turns up at Llwyncelyn
Someone lets themselves into Llwyncelyn, and puts down her rucksack;   it is Gaynor’s daughter, Izzy.
"I should have talked to him!"
Eileen is reprimanding Jim;  “I should have talked to him – he would listen to me!” but Jim does not share her optimism.   “It’s no use depending on men,” she comments, as Eifion comes into the kitchen.
"What have I done wrong now?"
“What have I done wrong now?” Jim rages, “I know I haven’t been helping on the farm as I should, but Huwi’s teething and we haven’t had more than two hours’ sleep since Friday!”
"There's still a farm to run, Jim"
Eifion points out that there is still a farm to run;
"I remember when Cadno and I were at each other's throats"
“I remember that time when Cadno and I were at each other’s throats.”   Then Eileen shouts that Jim needs to chop some more firewood, and he meekly goes to comply with the instruction.
"Hello!"
When Gaynor returns home, she is surprised to see the rucksack,
Izzy is doing a bit of relaxation
and even more so to find Izzy, in her yoga position on the floor.
Gaynor welcomes her daughter home
She is welcomed with open arms.
A hooded figure is lurking in the hospital . . .
As a nurse attends to Ed, a hooded figure is seen looking into the room;
. . . the extortioner, no less
Kelly turns round and sees that it is Angela;
"What are you doing here?"
she comes out, demanding what Angela is doing there,
"How's Ed?"
and when asked how Ed is, she snarls, “As if you care!
"I want to know what's going on!"
“I should phone the cops – something is going on and I want to know what.”
Angela does not like the look of the policeman
She grabs Angela’s arm and demands, “Tell me!”
When Angela sees a police officer, on other business,
"You don't know Ed at all, do you?"
she comments, “You don’t know Ed at all, do you?” and rapidly leaves the hospital.
As expected, depression was diagnosed
In the Deri flat, Garry and Britt return from the doctor’s, where she was diagnosed as suffering from depression, and has been given tablets.
"I'll do the accounts in my room"
“Now I am going to do the chip shop’s accounts in my room,” she announces,
"The doctor said to take things slowly"
but Garry reminds her that the doctor said to take things slowly;
"But one hour would be all right, wouldn't it, Garry?"
Dani intervenes to suggest that one hour would be all right, if Britt thinks it would help, and he is obliged to agree.
"Why can't you support me?"
When Britt has gone, he asks why Dani cannot support him;
"She thinks they will take Aaron away"
the reply is, “She has got it into her head that they will take Aaron away from her – that’s why she wants to work, to show that she’s OK.”
"The point is she is not OK!"
Garry replies that the point is she is not OK.
Jim dozes in front of the fire
Jim has dozed off on the sofa in front of the fire, but Eileen furiously insists that he wake up;
"I can't have a nap, so why should you?"
“I can’t have a nap during the day, so why should you?   Huwi’s clothes need to be washed.   Eifion comments that the Sergeant Major is out today,
"What we need is some time apart!"
and advises that the two of them need some time together.   Jim is of the opinion they should have some time apart.
"Why don't you cook for her?"
“Why don’t you cook for her this afternoon?” Eifion suggests, “Come on, I’ll help you – I’ve got a few hours before that delivery.
"She'll stop moaning for a week!"
“She’ll stop moaning for a week if you treat her.”   Jim is encouraged by this prospect.
"Jim said he's going to cook today"
When Eileen returns, she is told, “Jim said he’s going to cook today,” and she immediately suspects he has done something wrong,
"I thought it would be nice to spend time together"
but Jim says he simply thought it would be nice to spend some time together.
"Do you remember anything about Friday night?"
Ed is now awake, and Kelly informs him that the scans are clear;  “Do you remember anything about Friday night?” she asks,
"Only that someone was wearing a balaclava"
and he says he remembers someone wearing a balaclava.
"I don't remember Angela wearing one!"
“Are you sure of that?” Kelly continues, “Odd – because I don’t remember Angela wearing one.   And she definitely wasn’t wearing one when she was here earlier.”
The name of Angela fills him with foreboding
Ed is now looking decidedly nervous.   “I want the truth!” Kelly demands.
Izzy unwinds with a cup of coffee
Izzy is enjoying a cup of coffee, as Gaynor enquires, “Your headteacher was fine with you taking time off?”
"I wanted to see Dad after everything that's happened"
and is told that he understood that she wanted to see her father after everything that has happened;  she is home for a month.
"How about we go to the village for a walk?"
“I feel a bit spaced out – how about we go to the village for a walk?’ Izzy suggests, “We can have lunch to celebrate.”
"Why did she attack you?"
“So she just attacked you?   Why?” Kelly says, dubiously, and he maintains that the effect of losing Courtney was too much for her;  she was jealous that he was getting on with his life.
"How long has she been hassling you?"
Kelly wants to know, “How long has she been hassling you?” and when told it started before the wedding,
"Why didn't you tell me?"
she squeals, “Why didn’t you tell me?”
"You didn't want to worry about her lies"
He points out that she had things to organise without worrying about his ex-partner spouting lies, and would rather continue this conversation when he is back home.   “What lies has she been spouting, then?” is the next question.
"She thought we should get back together"
“She’s got it into her head that she and I should get back together,” he says, and Kelly demands if they have been sleeping together, which he emphatically denies,
"But that's what you did to Sioned"
but she reminds him that is what he did to Sioned.
“There’s nothing going on with me and Angela – it’s all in her head!” he stresses,
Kelly is very confused
but Kelly does not know what to think.
The two chefs have almost completed their meal
At Penrhewl the two men have finished preparing the meal, and Eileen asks what they are having;
Eifion ladles it out
Jim announces, “Home-made pasta,” as Eifion ladles the food into their bowls.
When Jim announces what it is . . .
“Pasta with chicken, white wine and mushroom sauce, and asparagus,” says Jim,
. . . Eileen's face falls
and Eileen’s face falls, reminding him that she hates mushrooms, as he knows, and is also not too keen on asparagus.
He was under the impression that mushrooms were one of her favourites;
"I've never eaten mushrooms!"
“All the time we’ve been together – and I’ve never eaten mushrooms!” she moans, “What’s wrong with you?”
"My brain is a mess!"
Jim is devastated, and says that his brain is a mess;  Eileen decides to have a piece of toast instead.
"Enjoy your romantic dinner, boys"
Eifion wastes no time in taking Eileen’s place at the table, and they are encouraged to enjoy their romantic dinner.
What an idiot – running with a dodgy knee!
Hywel and Rhys run through the alley, but, conveniently close to the seat, Hywel is seized with a sudden pain in his leg;
"My knee's a bit stiff"
he explains that his knee is a bit stiff, and is told that he should not be running in that condition.
"You can't afford to take risks at your age!"
“You can’t afford to take risks at your age!   You need to see a GP,” warns Rhys.
Izzy is greeted warmly by Rhys
He is seen by Gaynor and Izzy, who come across to commiserate, and Rhys is happy to see Izzy back from Bangkok.   Hywel refuses any help from Rhys.
"Is there something you're not telling me?"
As the two of them walk towards the Deri, Gaynor senses there is something that Izzy is not telling her, as she does not seem herself;
"No, Mam, it's just jetlag"
Izzy merely puts it down to jetlag.
"Did Britt tell the doctor everything"
Dani asks Garry whether Britt told the doctor everything about last week;  “I know she’s scared of losing Aaron, but they have to know everything.”
He admits that she did hold back a little bit, but believes that the doctor had a good idea;
"I don't know what would happen to Aaron"
“If they knew everything that’s gone on, I don’t know what would happen to Aaron.”   Dani reminds him that they understand Britt, and is confident that she will get through this;  Garry hopes that she is right.
Of course, Aaron is listening
In the doorway, we see that Aaron is listening to this conversation.
"Why didn't you talk to me, Ed?"
“What I don’t understand is – why?” says Kelly, “Why didn’t you talk to me?   You know how important it is to me that people are honest,”
"There's really nothing more to say"
but he replies that there is nothing else to say.   “I think there’s a lot more to say,” she insists,
"Angela said I don't really know you at all"
“Angela said that I don’t know you at all – what’s that supposed to mean?”
"She just wants to split us up"
He continues to argue that Angela wants Kelly to doubt him;  “To split us up, so she has a chance with me.”
"She knows something – I know she does"
Kelly does not believe this;  “She knows something – I know she does.   She gave me her phone number earlier – just in case I want to talk, like.
"I might as well phone her, then"
“I might as well phone her, then.”
"She saw Gaynor trying to kiss me months ago'
As she takes her mobile phone, he admits, “She saw Gaynor trying to kiss me a few months ago.   It meant nothing, but Angela was trying to twist things –
"She took a video on her phone"
“she took a video on her phone, and threatened to show it to you.   It was a stupid mistake –
"Kelly, please come back!"
“Kelly, please come back!”
Kelly walks out . . .
She leaves the room in a state of shock,
. . . totally distraught
and is distraught.
