"I've made you an appointment tomorrow morning"
Tesni comes downstairs to find that her mother has made her an appointment at the surgery tomorrow morning.   Tesni suspects that her father is avoiding her, but Jaclyn denies this, and will make her some toast;
She ignores another message from Mathew
her phone sounds again, and as soon as she sees that it is Mathew, she ignores it.
"It's not fair on him"
“We’re supposed to be meeting tonight,” she tells Guto, “It’s not fair on him – he doesn’t know what’s going on.”
"Well, tell him, then"
Guto says that the answer is simple;  she must tell him, but she insists she cannot.
"It's not a good idea to go out tonight, Tes"
Her mother does not think it is a good idea to go out tonight, but Tesni sighs, “I have to go – he deserves that, at least.”
The appointment for Kelly's 12-week scan
Kelly has received a letter from Carmarthen Hospital to inform her that her 12-week scan will be on 8 May at 10:30am;  she hides the letter in a drawer when Ed comes in, looking for his shoes,
"Just a sausage roll promotion"
and tells him the letter was about a sausage roll promotion.
Ed soon checks the letter for himself
Of course, as soon as she goes down to the café, he looks in the drawer and finds the letter;  he looks puzzled.
"I know I ask you the same thing every day"
Mathew sees Guto outside APD, and says, “Listen, it feels like I’m asking you the same thing every day, but how is Tesni?”
"I don't think she's well enough to see you"
The answer is that she does not look great at the moment, and Guto does not think she is well enough to see him this evening.
"Have I upset her?"
“Has she said anything about me?   Have I upset her?” Mathew wonders,
"She just needs more time to get over it"
but Guto is of the opinion she needs more time to get over the illness;  so Mathew has no choice but to give her some more time.
Eileen detects an unusual noise . . .
Out in the farmyard at Penrhewl, Eileen detects a strange thumping noise,
. . . and goes in search of its source . . .
so goes to investigate;  she finds that it is Eifion, wearing boxing gloves,
. . . which is Eifion, doing some boxing
and giving a punchbag a good beating.
"I'm trying to keep fit"
He explains that he is trying to keep fit, but she suspects that is not the only reason.   “I thought you were trying to make an impression on someone,” she says,
Eileen is sure he has an ulterior motive
“When a person starts looking after themselves, something like that is usually behind it.
"You don't have to hide it if you've got a new boyfriend"
“You don’t have to hide it if you’ve got a new boyfriend – Cadno’s moved on with Stephen.”
"I haven't got a boyfriend!"
He angrily insists that there is no boyfriend, but she points out, “If you have got a boyfriend, he’s welcome at Penrhewl any time.”   Eifion resumes his sparring.
"It wasn't your decision to make!"
Tesni is furious when she finds out that Guto has been talking to Mathew;  “It wasn’t your decision to make!” she shouts, “I don’t want you to look after me – you’re my little brother!”
"I'm only a few minutes younger"
He protests that it is only by a few minutes,
Interfering Brenda disturbs them
and then their argument is interrupted by the arrival of Brenda, who detects the unfriendly atmosphere.
"Tesni has had a flare-up for weeks"
As no-one else will say anything, Guto announces that Tesni has had a flare-up for weeks;
"There's no need to argue about it"
their grandmother says there is no need to argue about it,
"I knew you'd all make a fuss!"

but Tesni exclaims, “I knew you’d all make a fuss!” and flounces off upstairs.
"Not here, Brenda"
Jaclyn does not want to discuss the matter there, so they head for the Deri.
Ed comes downstairs
In the café, Ed is coming downstairs with the letter,
"Sausage rolls?"
and remarks, “Sausage rolls?”   Kelly admits that was the first thing that came into her head, and he demands, “Why couldn’t you just tell me about the scan?
"I thought things were better between us"
“I thought things were better between us.”
"I'm not sure I can trust you"
Kelly replies, “They are, but I’m not sure I want you with me at the scan.   I’m not sure I can trust you – do you blame me?   Your track record is not exactly glowing!”
He thought that the baby would help them to move forward,
"Don't use the baby to 'guilt trip' me!"
but she warns him, “Don’t use the baby to ‘guilt trip’ me – this is your fault!”   He protests that he has said sorry, amnd does not know what else can he do.   She replies that he can stop pressurising her;  “I don’t understand how you did this to us!”
"You're never going to forgive me!"
Ed assumes that she will never forgive him, and retreats upstairs.
Brenda has been appraised of the situation
In the Deri, Jaclyn has told her mother-in-law about the situation;
"And he's been avoiding Tesni since then?"
“And he’s been avoiding Tesni since then?” Brenda asks, and is told that Gerwyn has been avoiding everyone.
Jaclyn feels as if she cannot help anyone any more;  she is worried about Tes, but can cope with that,
"He just shuts me out – I feel so useless!"
“But Ger is another matter – he just shuts me out – I feel so useless!”
Brenda says that it is not fair she has to go through this every time;  Jaclyn thought he had stopped having these bouts, and does not know what to do.
Brenda will go and sort him out
“You don’t have to do anything,” decides Brenda, finishes her drink and leaves the Deri, followed by Jaclyn.
"I want a word with you!"
Gerwyn is delving into the engine of a car when they approach;  “I want a word with you,” his mother tells him, “About you!
"You have to pull your socks up!"
“You have to pull your socks up and stop this doom and gloom business!   You have to hear this – stop feeling sorry for yourself – you have a family to take care of!”
"That's the point – I didn't look after Tesni!'
“That’s the point – I didn’t look after Tesni!” he replies.
"You didn't release the handbrake"
She reminds him that he did not release the handbrake, but he goes on, “She was seven – I should have been watching her.   That’s my job as a father – keeping my children safe!   It was my fault!
"If I hadn't left Tesni alone in the car . . ."
“If I hadn’t left Tesni alone in the car, she wouldn’t have released the handbrake, the car wouldn’t have rolled down the hill, and she wouldn’t have been thrown through the windscreen, and ended up like this!”
Jaclyn informs him that Tesni’s colitis is not connected to the accident,
"Just leave me alone!"
but he is quite convinced that the stress caused it, and demands to be left alone.
Brenda gives up her attempt
Brenda realises, “There is no point reasoning with him when he is like this,” and they walk out of the garage.
"Did you know Eifion has a punchbag in the barn?"
Eileen comes into the kitchen at Penrhewl with a box of vegetables, and remarks to Sioned, “Did you know that Eifion’s got a punchbag in the barn?   I think he’s trying to make an impression on a man.”
It could be a woman – he is bisexual"
Sioned reminds her that it could be a woman, which Eileen regards as strange.
“Yes, Eifion is bisexual,” Sioned informs her, “Didn’t you know that?”
"I thought he was gay now"
Her mother thought that he was gay now, and considers it very peculiar that although he cheated on Cadno with a man, he still likes women.
"Why can't people decide what they are?"
“That’s awful!   Why can’t people decide what they are?” she demands, “Do you know anyone bisexual?”
"Both Gwyneth and Britt are"
Sioned points out that both Gwyneth and Britt come under that heading, and does not know what all the fuss is about.   She considers that everyone should be free to be with who they want.
"I hope you didn't say anything stupid to him"
She hopes that her mother has not said anything stupid to him,
"I said he's welcome to bring men to Penrhewl"
and Eileen recalls that she only said he is welcome to bring men to Penrhewl if he wants, but she was only trying to be nice.
"Are you still angry with me, Tes?"
brings Tesni a glass of water and asks if she is still angry with him;
"I'm just worried about you"
“Don’t be like this,” he pleads, “I don’t want to quarrel – I’m just worried about you.”
"You all treat me like an invalid"
She answers that so is Mam and Gran;  “You all treat me like an invalid who can’t make her own decisions.
"I'll meet Mathew – and tell him about the colitis!"
“I’ll show you – I’m texting Mathew, arranging to meet him – and I’m going to tell him about the colitis!
"Then you can stop interfering in my life!"
“At least, then you can stop interfering in my life!”
Ed studies a photo
Ed is sitting, morosely, in the cafe flat, looking at a photograph, when Kelly comes upstairs;
"That's Gemma's stuff"
“That’s Gemma’s stuff,” she realises,
A photo of Gemma on a swing
and he shows her the photo of Gemma when she first came to live with him.
"She loved going on the swings"
“She loved going on the swings – there was a park around the corner from where we lived,” he remembers,
"We did it for her own good"
“Andrew and I kept some big things from her, too.   Perhaps it was not the right decision, but we did it for her own good.   That’s what I do for people I love, Kel – I try to protect them.
"Please don't stop me being a father to our baby!"
“Please don’t stop me from being a father to our baby – there’s nothing I wouldn’t do for you both!   You mean everything to me, Kel – I’ve been so lucky to find you.   Before you, my life was . . . toxic!
"You're so perfect, Kelly"
“You’re so perfect – there’s nothing bad in you.
"Give me another chance, Kelly, please!"
“Give me another chance, Kelly, please!   I’m not hiding anything else.”
She asks if he is sure about that;
"If you want to make another revelation . . ."
“If you want to make another revelation, now is a good time,”
"You know everything, Kelly"
but he assures her that she knows everything.   With tears in her eyes, she gets up from her chair.
Mathew is drinking alone
Mathew is drinking in the Deri when Tesni arrives;  he is overjoyed to see her, and says that he has really missed her.
"I've booked a table at Cwm Delhi"
She only wants water to drink, and is rather anxious when he informs her that he has booked a table at Cwm Delhi,
She does not relish the thought of curry . . .
as they have not been there for a while.
. . . and calls for assistance from Guto
She goes to sit down, and quickly sends a text to Guto;  “Help!   Math wants to go to Cwm Delhi!”
"I thought he would listen to me!"
Brenda feels as if she has let Jaclyn down;  “I thought he would listen to me!” she moans.
Jaclyn says that the important thing is to keep this colitis flare-up from Gerwyn, but Brenda does not like secrets in a family.
"We have to watch what we say"
However, Jaclyn is quite adamant about this;  “We have to watch what we say, for everyone’s sake.”
Gerwyn is now more conciliatory
Gerwyn comes home, in a much less argumentative mood, and says he is sorry;  he insists that they do not understand, but he does accept what they say.
"I have to try and move on"
“I have to try and move on.”   Jaclyn tells him the children are both out,
"Go and have a bath, Ger"
and advises him to go and have a bath, while she makes their dinner.
Eileen tries to get her head around this 'bisexual' business
Eileen is still seeking answers from Sioned;  “So with these apps, you can choose a man, a woman, or both?   And that’s how Eifion found this Alun?
"You went to dances to find a partner"
“Good heavens – times have changed!   When I was a girl, you went to dances to find a partner – not swiping back and forth like that!”
"Of course not, Mam!"
She asks Sioned if she is on these apps, and she stresses that she is not, because she is not looking.
"You and Rhys would make a lovely couple"
“I thought that you and Rhys would have made a go of it by now,” Eileen suggests, “Pity – you’d make a lovely couple.”
"Oh, you've already got a boyfriend!"
When there is no response, Eileen assumes that she has already got a boyfriend, something which Sioned vehemently denies, emphasising, “I wouldn’t discuss my love life with you anyway – it’s none of your business!”
Sioned is summoned by Eifion
Then her phone sounds, and she finds it is a text from Eifion, asking, “Can you come to the shed?”
Eileen thinks she has the answer to her question
She makes the excuse that she is fetching more vegetables and leaves the farmhouse.
"You're very quiet, Tes"
Mathew is concerned that Tesni is so taciturn;  he feels that he is doing all the talking,
"Are you fed up with my moaning?"
and wonders whether she is becoming fed up with his moaning about Dai and APD.   “Is everything OK?” he asks, and she tries to pretend that it is,
No assistance is forthcoming from Guto
then glances at her phone to see if there is any response from Guto.
"There is something I should tell you"
“You can tell me,” Mathew goes on, and she confesses that there is something she should tell him;
"I didn't have period pain yesterday"
she is very hesitant, but admits that she did not have period pain yesterday.
"Don't say you had diarrhoea!"
“Don’t say you had diarrhoea!” he lightheartedly remarks, but she abruptly gets up and walks out of the pub, commenting that everything is a joke to him.
"You were right – I shouldn't have come!"
On the way to the door, she meets Guto;  “You were right – I shouldn’t have come!” she snarls, and he chases after her.
Mathew wonders what is going on
Mathew wonders what he has done wrong.
In the barn at Penrhewl, Sioned remarks, “I hear that Mam has been poking her nose in,” but Eifion replies that is not what is worrying him at the moment.
Eifion is missing the boys terribly
“I’m just thinking about the children – I miss them so much,” he groans,
Sioned tries to reassure him . . .
but Sioned answers that she is here for him, and gives him a reassuring hug.   Of course, at that moment,
. . . and Eileen witnesses this
Eileen happens to be passing and sees them, which leads her to jump to certain conclusions.
"I accept you were trying to protect our relationship"
In the café flat, Kelly tells Ed, “I don’t agree with what you’ve done, but I accept you were trying to protect our relationship – and that your intentions were worthy.”
He is glad she understands
He is grateful for that.
"I want you to swear that you're not hiding anything else"
She invites him to stand in front of her, and, quite solemnly, requires, “I want you to swear on the baby’s life that you’re not hiding anything else from me.”
"Yes, I swear!"
He does swear to that effect.
She places his hand on their unborn child
She takes his hand and places it on their unborn child, and repeats, “On the baby’s life?”
"Yes, on the baby's life"
He, despite his guilt, reiterates that he swears on the baby’s life.
"Get this straight – this is your last chance . . ."
“So let’s get one thing straight,” Kelly goes on, with tears in her eyes, “This is your last chance –
". . . good intentions or otherwise – it's over!"
“if I find out that you’re hiding anything else – good intentions or otherwise – it’s over!”
He will be pleased to go with her for the scan
“So, are you free in a fortnight, because it would be nice to go for the scan together?”   He replies that nothing will stop him,
"Honesty all the way – for the three of us!"
and she insists, “Honesty all the way from now on – for the three of us!”
If Kelly only knew what this smile concealed. . .
He smiles.
