Ed is off to make a delivery
Kath and Ed come out of the door of the café as DJ runs past;  an uncharacteristically cheerful-looking Ed greets Anita.
"That smile has been hiding for a long time!"
“That smile on your face has been in hiding for long time,” she comments, “Are things better at home?”
"Kelly – well, she's special!"
Ed is confident that things will only get better;  “We’ve got a lot to fight for – and Kelly, well, she’s special!”
"She needs planty of care and attention now"
Anita reminds him that she needs plenty of care and attention now;  he replies, “And that is what she’ll get.”
"I won't be home for dinner"
Rhys informs his father that he will not be home for dinner, as he has a session with a client.
"Shouldn't you be preparing for that interview?"
Hywel considers that he should be preparing for his interview, but Rhys thinks that it is not necessary.   “Are you doing anything tonight, or are you home alone?” he asks his father, who jokes that he might as well have a party, as he is on his own,
Hywel has an idea
and immediately gets out his phone, as soon as Rhys has gone.
"Are you all right, Kelly?"
In the café, Ricky asks Kelly if she is all right,
Just as Kelly serves a meal, she has a sudden urge . . .
but then as she takes a full breakfast to a customer, she suddenly has to rush into the toilet.
. . . which causes Ricky some concern
Ricky looks very concerned.
DJ arrives, puffing and panting
When DJ gets back from his exhausting run, Kath is at the flat, and tells them all, “I’ve been ordered to invite you to Debbie’s birthday party in mid-May.”
"I always look an idiot in fancy dress!"
DJ hopes that it is not fancy dress, as he says he always looks an idiot.
"It's a surprise party, so keep your mouths shut!"
“It is a surprise party, so keep your mouths shut!” Kath warns, but when they find out it is at the Glyndwr,
"That place costs a fortune!"
DJ announces that he will not be there, as that place costs a fortune.   Sioned and Mathew agree, so Kath tells them, “It was Mark’s choice,
"Complain to Mark, as long as Debbie's not standing by him!"
“so if you want to complain about prices, tell him – as long as Debbie’s not standing next to him at the time!”
"Control your breathing next time"
Sioned instructs DJ to control his breathing next time he goes running, then he will feel better;  as Mathew leaves for work, he assures DJ, “That date with Sioned is in the bag!”
Mathew simulates wheezing noises . . .
and makes wheezing noises,
. . . and DJ is not amused
much to DJ’s disgust.
Ricky has been deploying the mop and bucket
At the café, Ricky has cleaned up in the toilet, and in the kitchen asks Kelly what made her throw up.   She is initially evasive,
"You really should see a doctor, Kelly"
so he advises, “If the bug’s not gone by lunchtime, you should see a doctor.   You don’t want people out there becoming ill, do you?”
She comments that Ricky always goes out of his way to help people;
"You're really protective – thank you"
“You’re really protective, and I need it at the moment – thank you.”
"It's obvious things are not right between you"
He says that he would have to be blind not to see that things are not right at the moment between her and Ed.
"Understatement of the year!"
“Understatement of the year!” she sighs,
"Try and sort it out – you suit each other!"
and Ricky urges her to try and sort things out, as they suit each other.   “You’re really sweet, Rick,” she says, and when he asks if she is all right now,
"I hope he or she is worth it"
she feels her stomach and continues, “I hope he or she is worth it.”
"You're pregnant – wow!"
Ricky is amazed;  “You’re pregnant?   Wow!   Congratulations!”   Kelly tells him that she does not want anyone to know, so urges him to be quiet.
Ricky gives her a big hug
As he gives her a hug, Ed walks in, having done his delivery;  he asks anxiously if she is all right, and Ricky congratulates him on the fantastic news.
"You said we couldn't tell anyone"
“You said we couldn’t tell anyone,” Ed reminds Kelly, but she points out that Ricky just guessed, and she is OK now.   Ricky returns to serve the customers, and Ed insists that she should go and lie down for a while.
"Ed – stop fussing!"
She urges him to stop fussing.
Hywel meets Ffion in the doorway . . .
Hywel has bought his paper in the shop, and meets Ffion as he approaches the door;
. . . and puts his plan into action
he asks, “Do you fancy coming over for a meal later – you and Arwen?   About half-past five?”
Ffion is pleased to accept his offer
She agrees to this, and as soon as he has gone, Rhys comes in;
'Training session' is the euphemism used by Rhys
he wants to check if certain dates are convenient for her next ‘training session’.
"A one-to-one session would be best"
She admits that she wants to be with him, and he feels the same;  “A one-to-one session would be the best,” she suggests,
Kath returns to the counter
but then Kath returns from the store-room, and their little conversation is over.   Ffion leaves the shop, without having bought anything;
"She must have other things on her mind"
Kath assumes that she must have other things on her mind.
"Your body is telling you to slow down!"
Ed is still trying to persuade Kelly to go and lie down;  “Your body is telling you to slow down – listen to it!” he goes on.
She is becoming tired of this,
"I'm fine – so listen to me!"
and exclaims, “I’ve said I’m fine – so listen to me!”   Ed replies that he has tried his best but nothing is good enough, and she argues, “I just need some space, Ed!”
"Do you want everyone to hear?"
As this exchange seems to be getting out of hand, Ricky asks if they want everyone to hear,
"Just listen to Kelly, will you?"
and instructs Ed, “Just listen to Kelly, will you?”
Ed realises he is outnumbered
Ed gives up and walks out of the café.
"Maybe you should lie down"
“Maybe you should lie down,” Ricky tells Kelly, “I shall be all right here.”
She finally concedes, and is going upstairs when Anita comes in;
"Is Kelly all right?"
“I’ve just seen Ed – what’s happened now?” she demands, “Is Kelly all right?”
She is about to go upstairs, but Ricky tries to prevent her,
"With respect, Anita, she needs her space"
saying, “With respect, Anita, she needs her space.”   Anita takes offence at this,
"I know better than you what my niece needs!"
maintaining that she knows better than him what her niece needs, and goes up, regardless.
"What's happened now, Kelly?"
“For goodness’ sake, what’s happened now, Kelly?” she demands, “I’ve just seen Ed . . .”
"Can't you back off, Auntie Anita?"
She is interrupted by Kelly who informs her that everyone needs to back off, but Anita is determined to find out what has happened,
"I'm not trying to interfere"
although stressing that she is not trying to interfere.
"That must be a massive wrench for you!"
“That must be a massive wrench for you!” snarls Kelly, and after a pause, continues, “Ed’s driving me nuts – since he found out about the baby,
"I can't cope, like"
“I just – I can’t cope, like.”   Anita wants to know what she means, and Kelly explains, “He’s wrapping me in cotton wool,
"He thinks everything is hunky-dory – it's not!"
and thinks that everything is hunky-dory – it’s not!”
Anita takes some of the blame for that, as she told him to give Kelly more attention, but is sure that everything will all right now, with a baby on way.
"What's going to happen changes everything"
“Whatever’s happened between you, what’s going to happen changes everything,” she says.
Kelly shakes her head incredulously;  “Seriously?”
"You've got everything you ever wanted"
and Anita assures her that they are going to be a little family – she has got everything she has always wanted.
"Why have I never felt so lonely, then?"
“Why have I never felt so lonely, then?” Kelly demands.

Mathew is aggrieved he has not seen much of Tesni
In the Deri, Mathew is depressed because Tesni cannot come out, but she is going to come over tomorrow before the interview;  “I haven’t seen her much lately,” he tells Sioned.   She points out that Tesni may be busy with her school work,
"I wish I could see her more often"
but he wishes he could see her more often.
Kath has come up with a cunning plan . . .
Kath arrives with an idea for this party in the Glyndwr, and Mathew reiterates that he cannot afford it.   “Hold on, you haven’t heard my idea,” Kath continues,
. . . which seems very unlikely to work . . .
“I am going to buy some cheap booze, hide it in the Glyndwr, and drink that all night for a quarter of the price.”
. . . but it sounds good to Sioned . . .
It sounds like a good idea to Sioned, but Mathew wonders what happens if the staff find the stash, and Kath replies that is a risk she has to take.   “You don’t want to miss the biggest party of the year,” she tells them,
. . . and Mathew thinks he had better go along with it
and they agree they will be there.
"Don't tell anyone else!"
On the way out, she tells DJ that those two know, but nothing must be said to anyone else.
"Eating doughnuts?"
He joins the others at the bar, and Sioned complains about the two doughnuts he has;  “You went for a run this morning –
"You're going to spoil everything!"
“you’re going to spoil everything!”   He is fed up with eating healthily and keeping fit, emphasising that he is tired and starving.
“You said that I would get used to it, but nothing is changing – I’m not enjoying it any more,” he grumbles,
"I came here for a quiet pint"
“I’m going to do what I want!   I came here for a quiet pint, but I’m going for a shower, and if you’re both here when I come back, I’ll buy you dinner – as long as it’s not rabbit food!”
Esther and Arwen are playing happily
Ffion tells Arwen and Esther that as they have been good girls and eaten their dinner, they can play while she and Hywel eat theirs.
"I had forgotten what a good cook you are!"
She remarks that the two girls are good together, and she had forgotten what a good cook Hywel is.
"I'm glad they're best friends"
He begins, “I’ve been thinking a lot about those two lately – I’m glad that they’re best friends – and it would be nice to think that they’ll be there for each other when they’re older, too.
Ffion agrees with this sentiment
“Friendship is important, isn’t it?”
Their cosy soirée is rudely interrupted
Ffion proposes a toast to ‘friendship’, and at that moment Rhys comes into the house.
"I thought you were alone tonight"
He was under the impression that his father was alone tonight, and is asked to keep an eye on the two girls, while Hywel and Ffion finish their dinner;
Rhys is sent to mind the children . . .
“We parents have things to discuss!”
. . . about which he is not at all happy
Rhys goes to sit down, with a very dissatisfied look on his face.
"Oh, man up, Ed!"
Ed comes into the café flat, apologising for disturbing Kelly, but has something he wants to give her;  “Oh, Ed, just stop – or at least man up!” she sighs, “Do you seriously think everything disappears because we’re having a baby –
"Like you've sprinkled magic dust on it!"
“like you’ve sprinkled magic dust on it, or what?   And now that present, after everything!”
"I'll leave, if that's what you want"
He says that he will leave, if that is what she wants, but she replies, “I’m not saying that – I love you –
"I'm desperate for things to work between us"
“and I’m desperate for things to work between us.   But it comes down to one thing, doesn’t it?
"I just can't trust you, Ed!'
“Trust.   You and Gaynor, you and Angela – I just can’t trust you, Ed!   Without that, what have we got?”
"Our love is worth something, isn't it?"
He assures her, “I love you – and you just said you feel the same – that’s worth something, isn’t it?”
"You have to stop smothering me"
She explains that he has to stop smothering her.
"Here are today's takings. Kelly"
Ricky comes upstairs with the café’s takings, and Kelly thanks him for his help;
"You two are really lucky"
he is just glad that they are not arguing again, and says that they are really lucky.
"I'll go down and lock up"
He will go and lock up the café.
"Do you think he's right?"
“Do you think he’s right?” Kelly asks, and Ed does indeed think that;  he says that he had better go,
"You don't have to go . . ."
but she assures him he does not have to.
". . . but no big, heavy discussions"
“But no big, heavy discussions,” she says.
"I haven't stopped all day"
Downstairs, Ricky tells his grandmother he has not stopped all day;  “Kelly’s ill, so I offered to lock up.   Kath wonders if he has any leftover food to get rid of, as she does not feel like cooking tonight.
"There are some stale scones over there"
“There are some stale scones, going in the bin,” he replies,
Kath helps herself
and she helps herself.
"I've organised a driving lesson for you tomorrow"
“The driving instructor phoned – I’ve organised a driving lesson for you tomorrow at three, all right?” she remarks,
"No, I shall be working then"
but Ricky makes the excuse that he will be working.   She is sure that someone can cover for an hour, then demands what is wrong;
"What's worrying you, Ricky?"
“What’s worrying you?”
“What if I don’t want to waste money on lessons?” he explains, “It will cost you a fortune, with a university course and putting a roof over my head.”    Kath points out that these things are important – a lot more important than his mother’s party in the Glyndwr.   He just does not think that it is worth it.
"What if I gave you a few lessons, then?"
“What if I gave you a few lessons, then?” Kath suggests, and he sarcastically thinks he would be safer with an instructor;  “I’ll sort something out with my insurance – happy with that?” she demands,
"Yes, I suppose so"
and he grudgingly agrees.
She is not impressed by the scones
Then she finds that the scones are indeed stale, and proposes looking in the freezer to see if there is anything else.
"Why are you giving up, DJ?"
DJ comes back to the Deri, and Sioned wants to know why he is giving up;
"I've lest five pounds in less than two weeks!"
he reveals that he has just weighed himself, and has lost five pounds in under two weeks.
"I blinkin' knew it!"
“I blinkin’ knew it!   I’m so proud of you!” exclaims Sioned,
DJ looks quite encouraged
and embraces him, “You’ve shown if you really want something, you have to go for it!   It’s not easy but it’s worth it!”
"You need 'before' and 'after' photos"
DJ is now determined that he will continue, and Sioned says that he needs ‘before’ and ‘after’ photos;  “You’ll look fab by Debbie’s party if you carry on!”
"Still think she's out of my league?"
When she goes to the ‘Ladies’, DJ asks Mathew, “Do you still think shes out of my league?”
While the Hywel's away . . .
Hywel goes to help Arwen put on her coat, while Ffion takes the opportunity of kissing Rhys;  he insists he wants to tell his father about their relationship, but she forbids it.
"Thank you"
Arwen says thank you to Hywel for her dinner, and he says that they are welcome at any time.
Rhys is suffering from a fixation
As she leaves, Rhys cannot take his eyes off Ffion.
"My favourite film"
Kelly looks at Ed’s gift;  “My favourite film,” she remarks, and he says she has watched the old one so much, she needs a replacement.
"I'm surprised you didn't buy some tissues!"
“It makes me happy – that’s why, but I’m surprised you bought this and no tissues!” she comments.
He puts on the DVD
He puts the DVD into the machine and hopes she enjoys the film;
"Are you really such rubbish at reading my feelings?"
“Ed, are you really so rubbish at reading my feelings?” Kelly enquires,
"Shall we watch it together?"
“Stop apologising – shall we watch it together?”
He is apprehensive
He sits down beside her, rather apprehensively,
"We'll take things slowly, yeah?"
and suggests that they take things slowly,
"Baby steps"
and she agrees, “Baby steps.”
