Ed is off to make a delivery |
Kath and Ed come out of the door of the café as DJ runs past; an uncharacteristically cheerful-looking Ed greets Anita.
“That smile on your face has been in hiding for long time,” she comments, “Are things better at home?”
"That smile has been hiding for a long time!" |
"Kelly – well, she's special!" |
"She needs planty of care and attention now" |
"I won't be home for dinner" |
"Shouldn't you be preparing for that interview?" |
Hywel has an idea |
"Are you all right, Kelly?" |
Just as Kelly serves a meal, she has a sudden urge . . . |
. . . which causes Ricky some concern |
DJ arrives, puffing and panting |
"I always look an idiot in fancy dress!" |
"It's a surprise party, so keep your mouths shut!" |
"That place costs a fortune!" |
"Complain to Mark, as long as Debbie's not standing by him!" |
"Control your breathing next time" |
Mathew simulates wheezing noises . . . |
. . . and DJ is not amused |
Ricky has been deploying the mop and bucket |
"You really should see a doctor, Kelly" |
She comments that Ricky always goes out of his way to help people;
“You’re really protective, and I need it at the moment – thank you.”
He says that he would have to be blind not to see that things are not right at the moment between her and Ed.
"You're really protective – thank you" |
"It's obvious things are not right between you" |
"Understatement of the year!" |
"Try and sort it out – you suit each other!" |
"I hope he or she is worth it" |
"You're pregnant – wow!" |
Ricky gives her a big hug |
"You said we couldn't tell anyone" |
"Ed – stop fussing!" |
Hywel meets Ffion in the doorway . . . |
. . . and puts his plan into action |
Ffion is pleased to accept his offer |
'Training session' is the euphemism used by Rhys |
"A one-to-one session would be best" |
Kath returns to the counter |
"She must have other things on her mind" |
"Your body is telling you to slow down!" |
She is becoming tired of this,
and exclaims, “I’ve said I’m fine – so listen to me!” Ed replies that he has tried his best but nothing is good enough, and she argues, “I just need some space, Ed!”
"I'm fine – so listen to me!" |
"Do you want everyone to hear?" |
"Just listen to Kelly, will you?" |
Ed realises he is outnumbered |
"Maybe you should lie down" |
She finally concedes, and is going upstairs when Anita comes in;
“I’ve just seen Ed – what’s happened now?” she demands, “Is Kelly all right?”
"Is Kelly all right?" |
She is about to go upstairs, but Ricky tries to prevent her,
saying, “With respect, Anita, she needs her space.” Anita takes offence at this,
maintaining that she knows better than him what her niece needs, and goes up, regardless.
"With respect, Anita, she needs her space" |
"I know better than you what my niece needs!" |
"What's happened now, Kelly?" |
"Can't you back off, Auntie Anita?" |
"I'm not trying to interfere" |
"That must be a massive wrench for you!" |
"I can't cope, like" |
"He thinks everything is hunky-dory – it's not!" |
Anita takes some of the blame for that, as she told him to give Kelly more attention, but is sure that everything will all right now, with a baby on way.
“Whatever’s happened between you, what’s going to happen changes everything,” she says.
"What's going to happen changes everything" |
Kelly shakes her head incredulously; “Seriously?”
and Anita assures her that they are going to be a little family – she has got everything she has always wanted.
“Why have I never felt so lonely, then?” Kelly demands.
"You've got everything you ever wanted" |
"Why have I never felt so lonely, then?" |
Mathew is aggrieved he has not seen much of Tesni |
"I wish I could see her more often" |
Kath has come up with a cunning plan . . . |
. . . which seems very unlikely to work . . . |
. . . but it sounds good to Sioned . . . |
. . . and Mathew thinks he had better go along with it |
"Don't tell anyone else!" |
"Eating doughnuts?" |
"You're going to spoil everything!" |
“You said that I would get used to it, but nothing is changing – I’m not enjoying it any more,” he grumbles,
“I’m going to do what I want! I came here for a quiet pint, but I’m going for a shower, and if you’re both here when I come back, I’ll buy you dinner – as long as it’s not rabbit food!”
"I came here for a quiet pint" |
Esther and Arwen are playing happily |
"I had forgotten what a good cook you are!" |
"I'm glad they're best friends" |
Ffion agrees with this sentiment |
Their cosy soirée is rudely interrupted |
"I thought you were alone tonight" |
Rhys is sent to mind the children . . . |
. . . about which he is not at all happy |
"Oh, man up, Ed!" |
"Like you've sprinkled magic dust on it!" |
"I'll leave, if that's what you want" |
"I'm desperate for things to work between us" |
"I just can't trust you, Ed!' |
"Our love is worth something, isn't it?" |
"You have to stop smothering me" |
"Here are today's takings. Kelly" |
"You two are really lucky" |
"I'll go down and lock up" |
"Do you think he's right?" |
"You don't have to go . . ." |
". . . but no big, heavy discussions" |
"I haven't stopped all day" |
"There are some stale scones over there" |
Kath helps herself |
"I've organised a driving lesson for you tomorrow" |
"No, I shall be working then" |
"What's worrying you, Ricky?" |
“What if I don’t want to waste money on lessons?” he explains, “It will cost you a fortune, with a university course and putting a roof over my head.” Kath points out that these things are important – a lot more important than his mother’s party in the Glyndwr. He just does not think that it is worth it.
"What if I gave you a few lessons, then?" |
"Yes, I suppose so" |
She is not impressed by the scones |
"Why are you giving up, DJ?" |
"I've lest five pounds in less than two weeks!" |
"I blinkin' knew it!" |
DJ looks quite encouraged |
"You need 'before' and 'after' photos" |
"Still think she's out of my league?" |
While the Hywel's away . . . |
"Thank you" |
Rhys is suffering from a fixation |
"My favourite film" |
"I'm surprised you didn't buy some tissues!" |
He puts on the DVD |
"Are you really such rubbish at reading my feelings?" |
"Shall we watch it together?" |
He is apprehensive |
"We'll take things slowly, yeah?" |
"Baby steps" |
