Now Debbie is into running . . .
Debbie is on a run and swerves past Ffion outside the shop;  she says she is timing herself,
. . . which Garry finds amusing
and Garry is quite amused.   “I’m glad someone finds it funny,” complains Ffion, and Garry thinks they will soon need traffic lights on the pavement.
"I get a cold every end of term!"
Ffion apologises that she is moody, as she has a cold;  “Every end of term is the same.”
"Your scarf, madam"
Garry returns the scarf she left in the Deri, and hopes she gets well soon.
"What are you doing, Ed?"
Ed is packing a bag when Kelly calls to him that she needs his help downstairs;  then she demands what he is doing.
"I'm obviously getting on your nerves"
“I think I should go away for a while,” he tells her, “I’m obviously getting on your nerves – and the spare bed isn’t comfortable.”   She says that there is no need to overreact, but he points out, You went away.
"I thought the problem would go away, too"
“OK, so I went away because I thought the problem would go away, too – but it didn’t,” she answers, “Leaving now would be a mistake – it would, because I need your help downstairs, Ed!”
"Is that all I am – a servant?"
“Right, that’s all I am – a servant to help you out in the café,” he snarls, “Sorry, Kel, but there’s only so much I can take – I’ve tried to say sorry!”   As she shouts at him to persuade him to stay,
"Er – nobody is serving downstairs"
Garry comes up the stairs to point out that no-one is serving downstairs.   Kelly promises that she will be down now.
"How much do you think he heard?"
“How much do you think he heard?” Ed nervously demands,
"Stay a couple more days, Ed!"
and she points out that married couples argue all the time, but begs him to stay just a couple more days.
He takes his bag back to the spare room
He agrees, and takes the bag back to the spare room.
"It doesn't feel right, jumping the queue"
“It doesn’t feel right, paying to jump the queue to see a specialist,” Hywel remarks, but Rhys says that he cannot wait 20 weeks;
"You should get it out of the way before summer"
if he needs surgery, he should get it out of the way before summer.   “I’ll have it on the NHS, because of the cost, and that could take months,” Hywel grumbles.
Rhys appreciates that the health system is under strain,
"Don't get old, Rhys!"
and his father remarks, “Like my knee!   Do you know what, Rhys?   Don’t get old,” he says, as Rhys is leaving for a jog.
"I've booked you a driving lesson"
In the shop, Kath advises Ricky that she has booked him a driving lesson for next week;
"Remember, we've got a deal"
“Come on, Ricky, we’ve got a deal!   It’s not just a ‘babe magnet’ – if you get one, you’ll be able to come home more often.   Leaving home is a big thing, and we’re so proud of you, going to college to be a solicitor – good grief, I can hear Dyff laughing up there!”
"I've got to pass first!"
Ricky reminds her that he has to pass first, and Kath realises that it is difficult course,
"We're so proud of you, Ricky . . ."
but they are proud he can do something so hard,
". . . aren't we, Madge?"
and Madge, who has just come in, agrees with her.
"That boy's got plenty in his head"
“He’s got plenty in his head,” Kath boasts.
"You must be used to lovers' tiffs"
In the café, Kelly tells Garry, “You must be used to lovers’ tiffs,”
"I've had my share – but this is none of my business"
and he admits that he has had his share, but this is none of his business.   Then he goes over to sit opposite Hywel, asking whether he will be following the advice he was given.
"You were talking about my knee, weren't you?"
“Yes, but it’s a private matter,” replies Hywel, “You were talking about my knee, weren’t you?”
"No, about you finding 'your Dani'!"
Garry emphasises, “I was talking about ‘finding your Dani’,” but is told that is a private matter as well, as these things should happen naturally, and there is no need to plan.
Kelly is seized by a coughing fit
Kelly has a nasty cough, and Garry remarks that there is something going around, as Ffion is also off with a cold today.
"Ffion says it always happens at the end of term"
“She says it always happens at the end of term,” comments Kelly, and Hywel knows that teaching takes its toll on someone,
"More like crowd control these days"
but Kelly describes it as, “More like crowd control these days.”
Garry suggests that she should take it up with the governors, of whom he is one;
"If you need a favour, Garry is the one to speak to"
Hywel adds, “If you and Ed have children, and you need a favour at the school, Garry is the one to speak to.”   Kelly replies that there is plenty of time for that.
“Do you think that Ffion would appreciate a visitor, with a bunch of grapes in his hand?”
"Rekindling the old flame!"
Hywel wonders, and Garry laughs, muttering that is is easy to rekindle an old flame.
Rhys finds it impossible to  keep away . . .
Rhys has not wasted any time in visiting Ffion, with grapes, and apologises for his lack of imagination.   She says that there is nothing that she needs,
. . . and is not put off by her cold
but he is not easily put off by the prospect of catching her cold.
"I'm a mess!"
“I’m a mess!” she says, and then the buzzer sounds;  she is very disturbed when she hears Hywel’s voice, and tells Rhys to behave himself
Now Rhys' father is also after Ffion!
Hywel has brought some cold remedies with him, as well as grapes;  he says that he will fetch Arwen from school if she wants.
He offers to look after Arwen for her
“It will give you a break, and I can give her dinner too – it’s no bother.”
"It will give you a chance to rest"
Rhys encourages her to rest, so she will get over her cold quicker, and she accepts Hywel’s kind offer.
Ffion is left, temporarily, in peace
They both leave to give Ffion a chance to recuperate.
"I'm trying to be healthy"
Kelly is surprised that Debbie does not want her usual doughnut in the café, but she explains that she is trying to be healthy, and mentions DJ, who is doing the same, but he is really serious, with Sioned’s help.
"I hope no-one else does it, or I'll have to close the café"
“I hope no-one else does it, or I’ll have to close the café,” says Kelly, dejectedly.   Debbie insists that just because she is slim it does not mean that she is fit, but Kelly is not keen on exercise regîmes and that sort of thing.
"She used jogging to cover up her affair"
“I read about this woman who went out jogging – she was having an affair, and using the exercise as a cover-up story,” Kelly goes on, Debbie is immediately offended, thinking that the same suspicions could apply to her.
"I haven't the energy to hide anything from Mark!"
“I wouldn’t have the energy to hide anything from Mark!” she groans,
Kelly suddenly drops everything and goes upstairs
and at this, Kelly drops what she was doing and rushes upstairs,
Gwen wonders what is going on
with Debbie following.
"I'm all right, Debs, honest"
“I’m all right, Debs, honest,” Kelly protests, but Debbie does not think she looks all right;  “I really don’t want to talk about it,” she says,
"Has Ed upset you?"
which leads Debbie to assume that Ed has upset her, but she still insists that she is fine.
"Look what he did to Mark!"
“I know he’s your husband – but look what he did to Mark!” rages Debbie, “Look, I don’t want the details, but does he know how upset you are?   You have to make sure he understands.”
"I have explained"
Kelly says that she has explained, but Debbie points out, “Whatever he’s done, he’s not psychic – you’re husband and wife – you should be able to tell him everything!”
"I'll go and look after the café"
Seeing Kelly’s tears, she volunteers, “I’ll go and look after the café, to give you a bit of space – but if you need to talk, I’m here for you, all right?”
It is time for the girls' pizza
At Hywel’s house, he serves up pizza for the two girls’ dinner;  Rhys says he will have some when he comes back, if Esther and Arwen have not eaten it all.
"We can make a pizza next time"
Hywel suggests, “Next time you come over, Arwen, we can make a pizza – we can roll out the dough, and you can put tomato and cheese and whatever you want on it – would you like that?”
He takes a selfie of them . . .
Then he gets out his phone, to take a picture of them with their pizza,
. . . and sends it to Ffion
and immediately sends the picture to Ffion,
She is hitting the Lemsip . . .
who is just preparing a dose of Lemsip.
. . . and only glances at her phone . . .
She does not have time to look at her phone,
. . . on the way to answer the door
as the buzzer sounds again, and Rhys is back;
Rhys is here to take advantage of her
“To help you eat those grapes,” he says, but she does not look entirely glad about it.
“Oh yeah – still in the dressing gown, then,” he grins, “I think it’s sexy!”   She is of the opinion that he should go, expecting that Hywel will be back any minute,
"They haven't had their dinner yet"
but Rhys enlightens her, “They haven’t had their dinner yet – so there’s no need for us to worry.”
Rhys starts undressing Ffion
He begins by removing her dressing gown.
"Is there any chance of a discount?"
Mark is on the phone to the Glyndwr, and asks, “I don’t want to be cheeky, is there any chance of a discount?
"Oh, great, thank you!"
“Oh, great, thank you!”   He tells Ricky and Kath that 10% was knocked off the cost of the buffet;
"The Deri would still be cheaper"
Kath still points out that the Deri would be cheaper, but they agree that it would not be as nice.
“The Glyndwr will be special, and Debs deserves a treat,” Mark declares,
They are looking forward to 29 May
“I’m looking forward to it, Saturday 29 May – Deb’s party – it will be great night!”
"I'm off to meet Rhys"
As Ricky is leaving to meet Rhys at the first aid course, Debbie comes in through the back door, and Kath asks how the run went this morning;
"My best ever time for 5k!"
Debbie is pleased to report that it was her best time ever for 5k,
Something is going on which she does not know about
but thinks that the family are hiding something from her, which, of course, they deny.
"Hywel will be here any minute!"
Ffion is panicking, after her dalliance with Rhys, sure that Hywel will be back at any moment, and, right on time, he arrives.
Rhys hurries off to hide
Ffion insists that Rhys should hide in the bedroom;
"I think it may be tonsillitis!"
she warns Hywel not to come any closer in case he catches what she has, and she embroiders the story to say that it has got worse, and may in fact be tonsillitis.
"Right, there's Arwen's bag – we had better go"
Hywel tells her that it has been no problem, as the girls get on so well together, and leaves with Esther.
"Go and clean your teeth before bed"
Arwen is sent to clean her teeth before bed, and then Rhys emerges from his hiding place.
"You can go too!"
Ffion tells him that he can go too, and he predicts that the first aid course will be almost over;
"I need tips on how to look after you"
“And I need tips on how to look after you – but I’m not going without a smile – that was hilarious!”   After a farewell kiss, he leaves the flat.
An enigmatic phone call
At Maes-y-Deri, Debbie is speaking to someone on the phone;  “No, listen – perhaps things will get better now.   I’ve found something out tonight – it means they’ll be busy for weeks.
"It's not safe for me to talk here"
“Look, it’s not safe for me to talk here – I’ll see you, bye.”
Ed looks somewhat preoccupied
In the Deri, Ed is looking particularly depressed.   Garry asks him if he is winning;  “You’ve been having a staring competition with that pint for an hour.”   Ed reaches the conclusion that he is not spending enough, and is told,
"You're not going to find the answer in the bottom of that!"
“Whatever’s wrong, you’re not going to find the answer in the bottom of that – go home.”   Without a further word, Ed does so.
"It will be the best time of your life"
Rhys and Ricky are talking about the first aid course, and Ricky asks for some help;  “I’m going to college in September – I suppose it’s only just sinking in now.”   Rhys replies that he has nothing to worry about, and it will be the best time of his life.
"You liked your Sport Science course, didn't you?"
“You liked your Sport Science course, didn’t you?” asks Ricky, “Did you find it hard or boring?”
"Having cold feet about doing Law?"
Rhys suspects that he is having cold feet about doing Law,
"I'm only now thinking about it seriously"
but Ricky admits, “I haven’t really thought about it seriously until now.”
"We can't carry on like this, Kel"
Ed tells Kelly, “We can’t carry on like this, Kel – I’m your husband – things shouldn’t be like this.   I’ve hurt you – I’ve done things I shouldn’t have done – and I’m sorry!
"The only way is for me to be punished!"
“The only way we can move forward is for me to be punished!”
Kelly is aghast
She looks at him incredulously, as he invites her to hit him;
"Hit me as hard as you can!"
“Please, Kel, I deserve it – hit me as hard as you can – I’ve made you ill!   I know you can’t talk about it, but I’ve made you bulimic again.”
"I'm not bulimic – I'm pregnant!"
Kelly begs him to stop, and blurts out, “I’m not bulimic – I’m pregnant!”
"What?"
As he looks disbelievingly at her, she says, “I’m expecting your baby, Ed!
"I'm really sorry – I know I should have told you!"
“I’m really sorry – I know I should have told you.”
"You're expecting my child!"
He insists that it does not matter now;  “You’re expecting my child!   We’re going to be parents!
"We're going to be OK, Kel!"
“We’re going to be OK, Kel, I know it.   I’ll do everything I can to be the best father possible, I promise.”
They are both happy – at last
They are both overjoyed.
Hywel makes his way downstairs . . .
Hywel comes slowly downstairs, and receives a text from Ffion;
. . . and is cheered by a text
“Just seen the photos of Arwen, Esther and the pizza.   Thanks for everything today.”
"You're acting like a teenager – Cassie, was it?"
Rhys thinks that he is looking guilty and asks what he is hiding;  “You’re acting like a teenager – a text from Cassie, was it?”   He is told to mind his own business,
He looks again at the message
but Hywel looks again at the message,
"Perhaps there is hope for me, after all!"
and appears to be showing signs of renewed hope.
