Tesni waits for Llinos to come to the counter
Tesni is in the shop, and Sara comments that Christmas has come early when she sees that Tesni has some treats;  she is celebrating the end of the school term with her friends.
"Dylan's taking us to Thailand"
Dani comes in and tells Sara that she heard about Tapas, and Sara is pleased because Dylan is taking her and Ifan to Thailand over Christmas.
"It's all right for some!"
She does not want anyone else to know, as she has not told Jason yet.
"Sugar craving, is it?"
Mathew comes in, remarking to Tesni, “Sugar craving, is it?”
Tesni does her best to ignore him
but she explains they are snacks for Mared’s party and hurriedly leaves.
Mathew has now forgotten what he came in for
Mathew now seems to have forgotten what he came into the shop for.
Diane has enjoyed her full Welsh breakfast
Diane has polished off all her breakfast in the café, and Jason did not think she would be able to manage it;  she advises him that it is the Gin Club party tonight.
"APD is closed, then"
Sara comes in, noticing that APD has closed in early, and Diane says, “If you wanted something, tough!”   Sara would like private word with Jason, and Diane continues, “Tapas is closed as well – for a while, I heard.”
"Are you out of work, then?"
Jason wonders if Sara is out of work, and Diane explains, “The boss has sacked his sister – nice, isn’t he?”   Sara maintains that he is lovely, and wants to take her and Ifan to Thailand over Christmas, but Jason is totally against this idea;
"Ifan's passport is at Bryntirion"
Diane points out that Ifan’s passport is at Bryntirion.
Sara sits down and wants to discuss this properly with Jason;
"Make sure she doesn't try to trick you!"
Diane leaves them to it, warning Jason, “Make sure she doesn’t try to trick you!”
"Ifan belongs here with his family!"
He is of the opinion that there is nothing to discuss;  “Ifan belongs here over Christmas with his family – not on the other side of the world with strangers.”
Anita looks at Paul's handprint
Anita is looking at the e-mail she sent to Kelly and the handprint when Siôn comes in;
"Why don't you go to the Gin Club party?"
he suggests, “Why don’t I look after Paul tonight – so you can go to the Gin Club party?   It would do you the world of good to have some adult company.”
"I would probably fall asleep!"
Anita appreciates that she is not good company, and would probably fall asleep.
He adds that she will have less pressure now that Iolo and Tyler are going to the Monks, but this comes as news to her;
"I've ordered a turkey big enough to feed the 5,000!"
“Siôn, I’ve ordered a turkey big enough to feed the 5,000!”   She insists that they will have to change their plans and come to Christmas dinner at Y Felin.
"I recognise that voice!"
Just then there is a knock at the door, and they are surprised to see that it is Amanda,
"I've brought someone to say hello"
who announces that she has bought someone to say hello, namely Kelly, who is uncharacteristically quiet.
"So that's where you've been hiding!"
Anita immediately exclaims, “So that’s where you have been hiding, is it?   You could have phoned me!”
"Where better than her mother?"
Amanda explains that she needed a bit of space;  And where better to go than to her mother?
Anita says that it is good to see Kelly looking so well, and informs her that Paul is having a nap at the moment;  she will put the kettle on.   Kelly does not make any comment,
"I have no idea, Siôn"
and Siôn wonders if she is staying, but Anita has no idea.
"I'm not going to change my mind, Sara!"
In the café, Jason makes it clear that he is not going to change his mind;  “This will be Ifan’s first Christmas after his parents have separated – he needs both of us around.”   Sara stresses that they were not going to spend Christmas together anyway,
"In the same village, not halfway round the world!"
but he reminds her that it would be in the same village, not halfway round the world.
“Just think how much he would enjoy being in the sun –
"When will you be able to take him to Thailand?"
“anyway, when will you be able to take him to Thailand?” she demands,
"You know how to make me feel useless"
and he replies that she has a real knack of making him feel totally useless.   She says that is not what she meant, and predicts that this is going to happen a lot, with birthdays and holidays
“You’re the one who decided to leave,” he remarks, “If you’re having him this year, I’m having him next year!”
"Here's your scarf, Mam"
Diane comes back in having left her scarf behind, which Jason hands to her;  “You haven’t agreed to let him go with her, have you?” she asks,
"I've got a year to save up now"
and Jason says that now he has a year to save up to make sure Ifan has a better Christmas next year.
"Take some time to think about it, Jason"
His mother urges him, “Just take some time to think about it!” as they leave the café.
"Aren't you ashamed of yourself?"
Meeting Dylan in the doorway, she snarls, “Aren’t you ashamed of yourself?   Stealing Ifan from his father over Christmas?”
Dylan asks Sara what he is supposed to have done now;
"I told them you're taking us to Thailand"
“I’ve told them you’re taking me and Ifan to Thailand for Christmas,” she replies, but she appears to have got the wrong end of the stick.
"It's an adults-only resort . . ."
“Ifan?   No, I’ve booked an adults only resort,” he informs her,
". . . and it's non-refundable!"
“I thought you would be glad of the break – and it’s non-refundable.”
"I borrowed it from Colin"
Rhys is in the Deri when Mathew comes in, wearing a Christmas jumper, which he borrowed from Colin;  this is part of his plan to get Tesni back.
"She will think it's hilarious!"
“She will think it’s hilarious – she likes a joke!” he confidently asserts.
"I've made a real mess of things – Ifan can't come!"
When Sara comes in, Dani enquires how it went;  “I’ve made a real mess of things – Ifan can’t come!” Sara wails, “Dylan’s booked an adults-only hotel.   I can’t go without Ifan – what kind of mother would that make me look like?”
"Jason would love to have Ifan"
Dani advises that she needs a break – and Jason would love to have Ifan, but Sara does not like the thought of being so far away.
Dani reminds her that it will be hot, with good food and good company,
The pleading message from Diane
but then Sara receives a message from Diane;  “Jason is so upset – please reconsider.   I don’t want him to have a relapse.”
"He won't be upset for long, then!"
Dani tells her, “He won’t be upset for long – go and give him the good news!” but Sara does not want Diane to know that she jumped to the wrong conclusion;  Dani reminds her that Diane does not need to know.
"He's putting on plenty of weight"
At Y Felin, Anita reports that Paul is putting on plenty of weight and the health visitor is very happy with him.   “He loves going for a walk to the village in the pram –he’s settled very well, fair play to him.”
After a signal from Siôn, she goes on, “Are you here to stay – or . . ?”
"Kelly's not ready yet"
Amanda answers that Kelly is not yet ready yet for living above the café, and that sort of thing.   Anita looks disheartened, and asks, “Have you thought any more about the adoption?
"We're both getting along so well together!"
“The offer is still there, you know – we’re both getting along so well together.”
Amanda could see that from the pictures and videos;
"What videos?"
Siôn did not know anything about them.
"She was bombarding poor Kelly"
“She was bombarding poor Kelly!” insists Amanda, but Anita replies that she was just letting her know that everything was OK –
"I'm fit enough to adopt him"
and that she is fit enough to adopt him.
Kelly gives the impression she does not wholeheartedly agree
“Well, there’s no need to do that now,” Amanda explains, “Kelly wants to take him back to Merthyr with me.   Kelly does not look particularly happy about that, and neither does Anita.   Amanda continues that they are returning tonight,
Siôn suspects that there is more to this than meets the eye
but again Kelly says nothing, which puzzles Siôn.
"I can't help but worry about Jason"
Sara arrives at Bryntirion;  “I can’t help but worry about Jason after that text,” she says, “Perhaps I had not quite considered everything –
"I don't want to start Jason gambling again"
“the last thing I want is being responsible for Jason gambling again, but I feel awful that Dylan has spent a fortune on this non-refundable holiday.”
"Ifan will be fine with us"
Diane replies that there is nothing stopping her from going;  “And Ifan will be fine with us.”
"I don't know what to say, Diane"
Sara gives the impression of being very grateful to her, maintaining that she does not know what to say.
"Just go and enjoy yourself!"
“There’s no need to say anything – just go and enjoy yourself!” declares Diane.
"I put up a pretty good performance there!"
As Sara leaves, Diane looks very pleased that her plan worked as intended.
Gwen has now finished her shift at the café
In the Deri, Gwen is getting into the Christmas spirit with a pair of red antlers, as Mathew is doing some heavy-duty drinking.
"Two pints and two shots!"
When he orders again,
"Haven't you had enough, Mathew?"
Dani asks him if he is sure;  “What’s wrong with everybody?   It’s Christmas, isn’t it?” he grumbles.
"They know how to enjoy themselves!"
Tesni and her friends come in, laughing, and Mathew comments, “They know how to enjoy themselves!”
"A bottle of Prosecco for the girls, Dani!"
He wants to buy them a bottle of Prosecco and will not listen to Tesni’s protests.
"Stay away from us – you haven't been invited!"
She warns him, “Just stay away from us – you haven’t been invited!”
This amuses Rhys, who is standing nearby.
"We shall soon be back together!"
Nevertheless, Mathew is confident that they will be back together soon.
Tesni confides to Dani that Mathew will only go on about it if she refuses the bottle;
"If he gets too much, just tell me"
“If he gets too much, just tell me,” Dani advises her.
Mathew downs another drink which he says marks step one of the big reunion;  “I know what I’m doing – shes just playing hard to get,” and he goes to the bar for one more.
Jason is rather dejected
Jason is sitting glumly at the kitchen table when his mother comes in,
"You'll need plenty of energy to look after Ifan"
recommending, “You should eat that lunch – you’ll need plenty of energy to look after Ifan while Sara’s in Thailand.”
"I suggested they would have more fun on their own"
That attracts Jason’s attention, and she goes on, “I had a word with her – I suggested they would have more fun on their own, as it’s her first holiday with Dylan.”
"She agreed, just like that?"
Jason cannot believe that she agreed, just like that,
"I'm very good at persuading people"
but Diane boasts, “I’m very good at persuading people when it’s necessary!”   His appetite has suddenly returned, and he tells his mother she has a lot of gin to drink tonight – and he will be paying.
"I'm glad you've changed your mind
Anita is so glad that Kelly has changed her mind, but insists there is no sense in going tonight.   Amanda reminds her that she has done this before and has everything she needs.
Siôn brings Paul downstairs
Siôn brings baby Paul downstairs, and is about to hand him to Kelly,
Amanda seems to be taking over
but Amanda intervenes.
"I think we should be going"
Kelly says nothing, but at least she smiles when she sees her baby;  then at last she does speak, “I think we should be going.”
"Just over Christmas . . ."
Amanda points out they will only be gone for a week;  “Just over Christmas, so Kelly has time to adjust –
". . . and then she'll be back"
“and then she’ll be back.”
Anita envisages celebrations in the New Year
Anita is very happy to hear this, and suggest they can have another Christmas when she comes back – a big dinner and celebrations.   “I’ll leave the presents under the tree, so you can have them then.”
"That will be lovely, Auntie Neet"
Kelly whispers that the idea will be lovely.
"Make mine a pint, please, Dani"
In the Deri, Tesni and her friends are enjoying themselves when Diane comes in and orders two large gin and tonics, as they are celebrating;  Jason would prefer his to be a pint,
"I'm having Ifan all to myself this Christmas"
and informs Dani, “I’m having Ifan all to myself this Christmas – Sara and Dylan are going on holiday to Thailand.”
"Enjoy the Prosecco, girls?"
Mathew saunters across and asks if the girls enjoyed the Prosecco;
"It was a bit like you – dry!"
“It was a bit like you, Mathew – dry!” Tesni replies, but he declares that he misses her.
"Look, why don't we go to The Bull instead, Mathew?"
As she is ignoring him, Rhys suggests they could go instead to The Bull, but Mathew demands why they should go there,
"Not when all the pretty girls are here!"
when all the pretty girls are here.   Rhys has gained the impression that they want to be left alone,
"Another pint and another shot!"
so Mathew proposes another pint and another shot.
"Cwmderi's Dancing Queen!"
Obviously too much alcohol is affecting Mathew, as he announces himself as Cwmderi’s Dancing Queen, much to the disgust of Tesni.
"I'm going to the Gin Club after all"
At Y Felin, Anita has smartened herself up and decided that she will go to the Gin Club party after all.
"You didn't tell me you had been sending messages to her"
“You didn’t tell me you had been sending messages to Kelly,” Siôn points out, and she knew that he would not agree, but maintains that it has done the trick.
"I was just helping Kelly to see sense"
“I was just helping Kelly to see sense,” she says, and he returns to his book;
"What is it, Siôn?   You don't look happy"
“What is it?   You don’t look happy,” she continues,
"Something didn't ring true to me!"
and he replies that something did not ring true to him;  Kelly’s reaction was strange
"She may feel guilty, or even ashamed"
Anita thinks that she probably feels guilty, or even ashamed she considered adoption.   “Well, for someone who’s so stubborn, she changed her mind very easily,” he says, and she puts that down to hormones.
Anita is under something of a misapprehension
“Look, Paul’s going to be raised by his mother in Cwmderi – that’s all that’s important,” she tells him, “I think we should find the Christmas spirit, and start to enjoy ourselves – Christmas has come early!”   Siôn is by no means convinced of this.
"Shots – for us – and the girls, Dani!"
Mathew is still drinking as if there is no tomorrow, and orders seven shots from Dani;  “For us and the girls!”
"I don't think they want them, Math"
Rhys does not think that they want them, so Mathew concludes, “If they don’t want them, we’ll have them!   Do you know what, Rhys?
"Boring and middle-aged, like Ffion!"
“You’ve turned into a boring, middle-aged . . . just like your girlfriend, Ffion!”
Sara tells Rhys to ignore him, as it is obvious to everyone that he is drunk, but Rhys is worried about what he is going to do next.
Sara announces their Christmas holiday
Then Dylan joins Sara, and she says that they are going away over Christmas, to Thailand.
The details of the Adults Only hotel
Dylan shows him the details of the Beach Princess Hotel on his phone.
“Very sensible – choosing an adult only resort!” says Rhys, and Dylan cannot wait to get a bit of peace, just the two of them with no children and no noise.
"What was that you said?"
Just along the bar, Jason has heard this and interrupts them;  “What did you say? Where was Ifan going to stay?”   Diane has joined them,
"Yes, I'm sorry, Jason"
and Sara is forced to apologise.
"Don't use Ifan like that again – do you hear me?"
Jason growls, “Sara, please don’t use Ifan like that again – do you hear me?”
She picks up her jacket, and is about to hurry away,
"Pretending to be worried about Jason!"
as Diane snarls, “You selfish cow – pretending to be worried about Jason!”   As Dylan follows her out, Diane comments, “And good riddance to you as well!”
Mathew's drinking is out of control
Mathew is drinking one shot after another,
After some uninhibited dancing . . .
and unsteadily climbs on to one of the tables, where he begins to dance,
. . . Mathew embarks on his strip show
and then starts removing his clothes.
"Get down now, Mathew!"
Dani the landlady orders him to get down now;  “I won’t tell you again!” she shouts,
"Do you want me to ban you?"
“Do you want me to ban you?”
He removes his belt, and anticipating what comes next . . .
Completely oblivious, Mathew begins removing his shirt, and as his belt is also taken off,
. . . he is forcibly removed from the premises
Rhys and Jason manhandle him off the table and out of the pub,
"I don't want anything to do with you!"
as Tesni exclaims, “Get the hint, Mathew – I don’t want anything to do with you!   You’re embarrassing!”
A taxi is waiting by the café
As Mathew is being propelled out into the street, and the tune of ‘Silent Night’ can be heard,
Kelly emerges from the café
Kelly comes out of the café, about to get into a taxi with her mother.
Kelly looks along the familiar street
As Kelly looks along the street,
"You're doing the right thing – just remember that"
Amanda assures her, “You’re doing the right thing – just remember that.
"You sit in the front, Kelly"
“You sit in the front, and I’ll sit with Paul.”
The taxi drives away

The taxi drives away from the village
