Eileen is asleep
Outside Sioned’s hospital room, Angela can be seen talking to a consultant;  Eileen has fallen asleep by Sioned’s bedside.
"Mam, wake up"
Angela wakes her and explains, “The consultant says that she has suffered a brain haemorrhage.   They have to wait and see if there is any damage, and keep her in a coma.
"Things aren't looking good, Mam"
“She can’t breathe on her own – and things aren’t looking good, Mam.   They want us to prepare for the worst.”
Eileen bursts into tears
Eileen bursts into tears, and Angela suggests she should go home to rest, as nothing will change at the hospital for the next few hours;
"There's nothing you can do here, is there?"
“There’s nothing you can do here, is there?   You need to stay strong!”
Eileen kisses Sioned
Eileen accepts her advice and leaves, kissing Sioned.
"Come on, wake up, Sandra!"
Jason has brought Sandra a cup of coffee, and kicks her sleeping bag, telling her it is time to get up;  “I’ve been up for a couple of hours, and I’m going to install the electrics upstairs, so it will be noisy.”
She has Jason's phone
She hopes that he will have more luck with that than with the betting;  she is looking at his phone to see how much money they have left.
"£150 left out of £10,000?"
“£150 out of £5,000?” he roars, “What am I going to do?   I’ll never pay my debts back at this rate!”
"Yesterday was not a good day at the office"
Sandra concedes that yesterday was not a good day at the office, but is naïvely confident that today will be better.
"Quick – go and hide!"
They hear the sound of someone coming;  “Iolo’s here!   Go and hide!” Jason snarls, so Sandra rolls up her bedding
Sandra wedges herself into the cupboard
and squeezes into the cupboard under the stairs once again.
"Hiya, Iolo!"
Jason hurries to the front door and greets Iolo with Sandra’s cup of coffee;  “I’ve come to measure up for the boiler, so you can install the kitchen this week,” says Iolo, “Dad’s promised to cook carbonara for us here on Friday.
"Dad's like a child at Christmas!"
“I’m telling you, Jase, he’s like a child at Christmas!”
"They can't do another scan until the end of the week"
Back home at Penrhewl, Eileen tells Jim about Sioned’s condition, and that they are unable to do another scan until the end of the week;
"If anyone can get through this, it's Sioned!"
he insists, “If anyone can get through this, it’s Sioned!”
Eileen puts Huwi in his cot
She puts the rather active Huwi into his cot and says that she wanted a break, a chance to cuddle Huwi and have a shower;  she will go back later.
Then she reveals that she was not on her own at the hospital;  “Angela was with me,”
"Angela's not supposed to go near that place!"
and Jim’s expression changes.   He points out that she is not supposed to go near the place, and Eileen should have told her to get lost.   “She’s Sioned’s sister,” Eileen reminds him.
"Yes, when it suits her!"
“Yes, when it suits her!” is his response, “How could you, Eileen, after everything she’s done to us – and to Huwi?”
"Angela's been supporting me"
Eileen insists that Angela supported her there,
"She's just using you!"
but Jim goes on, “She’s using Sioned’s situation to get close to you, so you drop the court case against her.   Please, Eileen, don’t let her do this!”

After doing some measuring, Iolo pronounces that the boiler will fit nicely in the corner;  “I’ll phone Dad to send you more money.”   Then they hear a strange noise,
"This house is full of noises"
and Jason maintains that the house is full of strange noises, but he has got used to them.   “Well, as long as there are no ghosts – Dad deserves some luck!” comments Iolo, and goes back to Cwmderi, reckoning that his father picked a good builder.
"I had cramp in my bottom!"
Sandra bursts out of the cupboard, complaining, “Don’t ever do that again!   I had cramp in my bottom!   Come on – we’ve got work to do – I’ve won £50 already!”
"How did you get my password?"
She has been online betting in the cupboard, and he wonders how she got the password for his gambling account.   She points out, “Ifan’s date of birth – you’re so predictable!
"Right, the bookies open soon"
“Right, the local bookie opens soon – we’ll have more fun there than freezing here.”
Jason says that he feels lucky today;  “I’ve even got my lucky pants on!”
Not one of Kelly's favourite customers
In the café, Kelly serves Angela, in a rather surly fashion, “Bon appetito!” she says,
"That's Italian, Kel"
but Ed points out that is Italian – the French is bon appetit.
"I hope it chokes her!"
Jim has just arrived and hopes that Angela chokes on her drink.
When asked by Kelly, he says that Sioned is not well at all,
"Catastrophic intercranial bleed"
and Angela elaborates, “She had a catastrophic intercranial bleed last night – we don’t know whether the brain has been permanently damaged.”
This is concerning to Ed
Ed appears very concerned about this news, as does Kelly, who asks when they will know.
"What's this 'we'?   You're not part of this, right?"
Jim snarls, “Whats this ‘we’?   You’re not part of this, right?   Stay away from Sioned and Eileen!”
"I've seen people in this situation – it's cruel!"
Angela emphasises that they do not understand what is ahead of them;  “I’ve seen people in this situation dozens of times – and it’s cruel!   I wouldn’t wish it on anyone!”
Ed does not look himself
She walks out, with Ed still looking distressed.
"Take a pew, Jim"
Kelly instructs Jim, “Take a pew,” and will get Ed to make him a cup of tea with shed-loads of sugar.
"Burning Desire – a cert at 50–1"
In the betting shop Jason and Sandra are down to their last £39;  another gambler, apparently named Thomas Green, advises them to put the money on Burning Desire, a cert at 50 to 1.
"He doesn't look as if he wins a lot!"
Sandra remarks, “He doesn’t look as if he wins a lot!”
"It will have to be accumulators"
and Jason concludes that it must be ‘accumulators’.
Angela sits alone . . .
Angela is sitting in Hywel’s house, looking at photos of Sioned on her phone;
. . . weeping over Sioned
she weeps as she does so.
Thomas has pulled off a considerable win here
Back at the bookies, in the final stages of the race, Burning Desire actually wins, and Thomas looks very pleased with himself.
"Bloody Burning Desire!"
Jason’s feelings are very different;  “Bloody Burning Desire!” he rages, “We could have won £1,500 there!   We can’t win one bet, let alone seven in a row!”
"There's a nice café round the corner – go and treat the missus!"
Once again, Sandra is gullibly confident that their luck is bound to change, and Thomas commiserates with them;  “There’s a nice café round the corner – go and treat the missus!”
This is all that is left
Jason summarises their progress thus far, “£10,000 – and we’re down to £10!”   Abandoning all reason, he continues, “We’re bound to win now, aren’t we?”
Ed is deep in thought
Ed is sitting, pondering, in the café flat;  Kelly reports that all deliveries deliveries are done for the day.
"Come on – spit it out, Ed!"
“I always get nervous when you’re quiet – come on, spit it out!   It’s bound to come out sometime.”
"You will hate me"
He replies that she will hate him, but she assures him that will never happen.
"Enough of this self-pity – what is it?"
“You have to tell me now, or I’ll start to think you’re a serial killer!” she says, “Please, Ed – enough of this self-pity – what is it?”
"Part of me would be glad if Sioned died"
He admits, “There’s a small part of me that would be quite glad if Sioned died – see, I told you, didn’t I?”   Kelly agrees that she did awful things to him, and can see why it would be a relief not to see her waltzing around – for both of them.
"She's still a bitch!"
“The fact that she’s on her deathbed doesn’t make her an angel – she’s still a bitch!
"I think you should go and see her"
“I think you should go and see her – closure – to feel you’re in control of . . . something.   To say goodbye, perhaps.”
Ed thinks this a good idea
He nods his head.
It appears that the £10 has suddenly . . .
In the bookies, they seem to have achieved the impossible and hit the jackpot;  they hug each other, ecstatically.
. . . grown almost two hundredfold
Apparently they have been betting on tennis and golf, and their balance has gone up to £1,976;  “I said our luck was turning,” insists Sandra.
Jason is adamant that they are not spending any of it,
"This is just the beginning, Jase!"
but Sandra maintains that this is just the beginning;  “No, Sand – I’m going back to Morawel to read up on accumulators, to do the job properly,” he decides.
He then pays a visit to the gents’, and in his absence,
"Goliath's Dream at 10–1, dead cert!"
Thomas notices their luck has changed;  he offers the advice, “If you stay for the next race, Goliath’s Dream at 10 to 1 is a dead cert – like Burning Desire.   But you’ll have to hurry up!”
After some brief consideration . . .
Sandra thinks for a second, asks to collect their winnings, but changes her mind
. . . Sandra stakes it all on Goliath's Dream
and puts it all on Goliath’s Dream.   Jason returns and is ready to leave,
"At 10–1, it would clear your debts"
but Sandra points out that 10 to 1 would clear his debts to the savings and Siôn’s money.
"I'll buy you a takeaway"
He says he will buy her a takeaway on the way home, but then she shows him that she has already staked the money;
"You've done what?"
he cannot believe it.
"We always wanted all the attention"
At Sioned’s bedside, Angela is talking, “I think we’re too similar – we always wanted all the attention.   I’m sorry for being so jealous of your relationship with Mam.   I know that didn’t help matters – and I regret saying the things that drove you away to France.
"If I could turn the clock back . . ."
“If I could turn the clock back . . .”
Of course there is no response from Sioned,
"Look after Courtney for me!"
but Angela goes on, “Can I ask you a favour?   If this injury is too serious and you can’t come back, will you look after Courtney for me?   Tell her I miss her every day.   Do you know what?
"I wasn't strong – like you"
“I considered joining her – but I couldn’t – because I wasn’t strong enough.   Not strong like you.”
Suddenly there is an alarm sound from the monitor, and Angela realises that the breathing tube has slipped down;  with her nursing training she will reposition it.
Ed catches her with the breathing tube . . .
But as she does so, Ed arrives, and sees her bending over Sioned;  “Leave her alone, Ange!” he shouts, “I saw you tampering with the machine!   I know what I saw!
. . . and calls for a nurse
“You were trying to kill Sioned!” and he shouts for a nurse.
At first, things look hopeful . . .
As might have been predicted, Goliath’s Dream almost, but not quite, wins the race,
. . . but then take a turn for the worse . . .
and their excitement evaporates as Swanky Boy takes first place.   “Please tell me you placed an each-way bet, snarls Jason,
. . . and all the money has gone
and discovers Sandra did not.
"The doctor said that these things happen"
Sioned’s condition has been stabilised, and Angela states, “You heard what the doctor said – these things happen.”
"Well, how did it happen?"
At that moment, Eileen returns with Jim and demands how it happened;  Angela maintains that there is no cause for concern.
"Angela was fiddling with the breathing tube"
Ed does not agree, and says, “When I arrived, I saw Angela fiddling with the breathing tube – she was trying to kill Sioned!   She was determined to bring on the end, right now!”   Angela questions why she would possibly do that.
"For the same reason you took Huwi-John!"
Eileen is quick to answer, “For the same reason you took Huwi-John – just go away!”
She blames him for doing the tampering
Angela pleads that they cannot believe Ed, and maintains that he was the one trying to kill Sioned;  “He tampered with the tube,” she lies,
"He said he could never forgive her for the abuse!"
“Ed was leaning over Sioned, saying he could never forgive her for the abuse – he wanted to see her die, Mam!   It was him – he tried to kill her!”
Eileen orders them both out
Eileen tells both of them to leave;
"You and Sioned are as bad as each other!"
Ed looks at Angela and voices his conclusion, “You and Sioned – you’re both as bad as each other.   You haven’t heard the last of this.”
"No, Jim, I want to spend every moment with Sioned . . ."
Jim wants to call the police, but Eileen stops him, insisting that she wants to spend every moment with Sioned now;
". . . not wasting my time fussing over her!"
she snaps at Angela, “Not waste my time fussing over her!   Off you go!   I never want to see you again!”
Angela is rejected again
Angela is aghast.
