It is bin collection day in Cwmderi
Jaclyn is putting out the bin at number 10, and Gerwyn has been speaking to the police;
“She won’t be released until late morning,” he says,
"I expect she's still drunk!"
and Jaclyn presumes that she is still drunk, and protests that his mother made a fool of herself.
"She only drove her mobility scooter home"
He replies that she only drove her mobility scooter home, but Jaclyn snarls, “Don’t stick up for her –
"Everybody stood outside the Deri, laughing at us!"
“you saw how everybody stood outside the Deri, laughing at us.”   He admits that if she were not his mother, he would have laughed as well.   “They will all be calling us ‘Chavs’ now!” she moans, and storms back into the house.
"He's not ill – probably got a hangover"
In the café, Kelly receives a text from Ricky, advising he is too ill to come to work;  “He’s not ill – he’s probably got a hangover,” says Ed, “I heard he drank half the free bar by himself last night – and Brenda drank the other half!”
"And Gwen's gone away for the weekend"
Kelly wonders what to do now, as Gwen has gone away for the weekend;  “I shall have to phone Auntie Anita to cancel – and hope she can come with me to the wedding shop next week.”
"I'll look after the café!"
Ed instructs her not to cancel anything, and he will mind the café;  he knows that it is important she finds the right wedding dress.
"Will it be designer or off the peg?"
Gaynor has just come in, overhears this and asks if it will be designer or off-the-peg;
"Vintage – a bit of style"
“Vintage – a bit of style,” Kelly replies, and Gaynor recalls that she married Colin in a vintage dress.
"We all know what happened to that marriage!"
She then comments sadly that everyone knows what happened to that marriage, which does nothing to reassure Kelly, so she goes off to get changed.
"I've got a problem"
Anita goes to number 10 and looks around at the patches of paint which are still adorning the walls;  “I’ve got a problem,” she begins,
Jaclyn looks rather nervous
and Jaclyn looks rather nervous.   “I’ve promised to go shopping with Kelly this morning – can you open Tapas for me?”
"That's no trouble at all"
Relieved, Jaclyn agrees that it will be no trouble.
"Like Brenda being arrested?"
“You looked worried then – did you think I was calling for a different reason?” Anita enquires, “Like Brenda being arrested?   The whole village has heard about that – anyway, it’s nothing to do with me, as long as the rent is paid on time.”
"She only came here to rub our noses in it!"
As soon as Anita has gone, Jaclyn reiterates, “I said everyone will be laughing at us – she only came here to rub our noses in it!”
"You're being a bit unfair, Jac"
Gerwyn thinks she is being rather unfair.
In the café, Ed asks Gwyneth if she wants anything else;  “Wouldn’t some grease be better after a night out?   Weren’t you in the Deri last night for Jaclyn’s and Gerwyn’s party?”
"I didn't stay at the party long – I had a headache"
Gwyneth replies that she did not stay for long as she had a headache, and Ed assumes that Brenda was too noisy.
Ed receives a text message . . .
Then he receives a text on his phone,
. . . memorial flowers on the fence at Pwll Bach
which shows a photo of the fence surrounding Pwll Bach, with flowers on it, and a note, reading, “In memory.”
"Sorry, I'm closing the café!"
He looks panic stricken, and tells the customers that they must leave immediately (fortunately there are only two of them).   Gwyneth protests that she has not finished her breakfast,
He cannot get Gwyneth out quickly enough
so he tells her, “Take it with you!   Quickly, please!”
Gwyneth says she cannot believe it;  “Being thrown out of the Deri last night and the café today!”
Ed locks the door . . .
He hurries her out of the door and locks up, then gets out his phone
. . . then asks who is the sender
and replies to the message, asking who is there.   Once more he looks very worried.
Jaclyn brings Gerwyn's sandwiches
Gerwyn is working on a car in the garage when Jaclyn brings his sandwiches, which he forgot;  he is pleased to see that she has calmed down somewhat.
"It's better if he comes home from school"
In the office, Garry is speaking on the phone;  “It would really help me out if you could fetch him – I’m sure it’s not serious, but it’s better if he comes home from school.”
"Brenda said you're paying!"
Then he confronts Gerwyn and Jaclyn;  “Just  the people I wanted to see – here you are,” he says, handing the bill for the party to Gerwyn.   “Brenda said that you’re paying!”
"You can sort it out with your mother – I'm going to work!"
This is immediately angers Jaclyn, who says that Gerwyn must sort it out as she has to go to work.   Then Gerwyn’s phone sounds;
"OK, Mam, I'll pick you up in half an hour"
it is his mother and he tells her that he will pick her up in half an hour, much to the amusement of Garry.
“I take it that you want an early lunch – you’d better take a couple of hours,” Garry understandingly tells him,
"Remember, I want that money when you come back!"
“Just remember, I want that money when you come back.”
"Those Parrys are chavs!"
In the wedding shop, Anita is moaning, “Those Parrys are chavs!” but Kelly considers that to be rather harsh.
"You should have seen the place, Kelly!"
“You should have seen the place – bits of wallpaper hanging about, and patches of paint everywhere!”
Kelly points out that is what redecorating is;
"You're just having a go after what happened last night!"
“You’re just having a go after what happened last night!”   Anita protests that she does not want a criminal living in her house,
"Haven't you ever done anything stupid after a few drinks?"
and is told, “Come on – haven’t you ever done anything stupid after a few drinks?”
She answers, “Nothing as stupid as driving a scooter while drunk!”   Kelly urges her to lighten up and forget about that family for today.
Kelly selects a simple, short dress
She looks at the rack of wedding dresses and selects one;  Anita immediately remarks, “It’s short!” and Kelly goes to try it on.
"Are you sure it's only a stomach ache?"
Gwyneth has collected Gwern from school and asks if he is sure he has only a stomach ache – she gets him to lie down on the sofa.
"Why did Dad throw you out of the party?"
He asks, “Why did Dad throw you out of the party?” and she assumes that the children were talking at school, but he goes on, “I heard.”
She tries to explain that it was a game . . .
She tries to pretend that it was just a game – she had to go out for ten minutes, and then would choose the next person to be thrown out.
. . . but Gwern does not fall for that one
Gwern does not look at all convinced.
Kelly in the simple, demure dress . . .
Kelly emerges from the changing-room
. . . of which Anita obviously does not approve
and Anita is very non-committal about the dress;
"Ed would run a mile!"
Kelly says, “Do you know what?   You’re right – it’s horrible – like a bin bag!   Imagine if I walked down the aisle in this – Ed would run a mile!”
Ed arrives at Pwll Bach . . .
Ed approaches the gate of Pwll Bach, where the note and the flowers in the photo were affixed;
. . . where the flowers and the note are no longer to be seen
as he looks through towards the mine, Hywel also appears.
"What are you doing here?"
“What are you doing here?” he demands, “Have you come to do something stupid again?   Neither you, nor any of those other fools opposing my plans will stop me from buying the place.”
"I've been having nightmares"
After some quick thinking, Ed comes up with, “That’s not why I’m here – I’ve been having nightmares about being stuck in the shaft – thoughts of never making it out.   I thought if I came up here and saw the place in daylight, it would help me put it all behind me.”
"Yes, I've had some sleepless nights"
Hywel admits that he has had some sleepless nights about it too;  “Thinking of what could have happened – we were lucky.”
They have been noticed by a passing runner
At that moment, Ed notices Gaynor passing by on her run;
Gaynor continues on her way
after pausing for a moment, she carries on running.
Gwyneth prescribes snuggling up on the sofa
Gwyneth asks Gwern, “Do you know what makes a tummy ache better?      Snuggling up on the sofa and watching a film.”
"DJ's busy with work"
He wonders why DJ does not come to see her any more, and she replies that he is busy with work.
"And what about Megan?"
“What about Megan?” he goes on, and she wonders why he is asking all these questions;  “People were talking last night – about you.”
He is reluctant to say any more, but after being encouraged, continues, “Horrible things.”
"Life is like being at school"
Gwyneth tells him that life is like being at school;  “You’ve got friends, and people you don’t get along with – people who like saying things behind your back.   But they don’t matter, do they?”
"But I love you, anyway!"
She is reassured when Gwern tells her that he loves her anyway, and hugs her
Jaclyn is far from welcoming
Gerwyn and his mother return to number 10, and Jaclyn immediately exclaims, “I hope you’re proud of yourself!   The village is talking about you – talking about us all as if we’re from the gutter!”   Brenda says she has a headache and is going to lie down.
Gerwyn urges her to leave his mother alone for now;
"You're too soft on her!"
“You’re too soft on her!” Jaclyn snarls, but he points out she had an awful night in the cell.   “I hope you’ve told her about the bill from the Deri – we’re not paying a penny!” Jaclyn warns him.
"She's worried about being in court next week"
“She’s worried – she’s in court next week,” Gerwyn, but Jaclyn hopes that it will teach her a lesson,
"Get her to pack her bags and go home!"
and insists that he must talk to his mother, telling her about the bill from the Deri, and making sure she packs her bags and goes home.
Kelly's next choice is altogether more elaborate
This time when Kelly emerges from behind the curtain, she is wearing an entirely more flamboyant dress, but pleads, “Don’t tell me – this looks like a bin bag as well!”
"It's perfect – you look a picture!"
  On the contrary, Anita thinks that it is perfect, and that she looks a picture;  “Ed won’t believe his luck when you walk into Bethania!”
"I don't want people to think I'm preggers, like!"
Kelly worries, “You don’t think it looks too big, do you?   I don’t want people to think I’m preggers, like!”   Anita is confident that they can take it in a little at the waist,
"I'm saying 'yes' to the dress!"
and Kelly comes to the conclusion, “I’m saying yes’ to the dress!”
"Have you thought about talking to someone?"
In the Deri, Hywel asks Ed if he has thought about going to see someone to talk about how he feels, but he thinks he will be fine after going up there earlier.   “I’m sorry I thought you’d gone up there to ruin my plans,” says Hywel,
"Have you been down the mine?"
and Ed enquires if he has been down the mine since the collapse.
"Nobody's allowed anywhere near the shafts"
“It’s not safe – nobody is allowed anywhere near the shafts, not even the owner,” Hywel replies, and then goes to sit down,
Hywel beats a retreat
as Gaynor has just come in, and he does not want another lecture from her.
"You two seem to be good friends all of a sudden"
Gaynor remarks to Ed, “You two seem to be good friends all of a sudden,” but he says they just happened to arrive at the same time.   She continues, “I saw you earlier, up by the entrance to Pwll Bach – it looked like a deep conversation.
"I don't trust Hywel at all!"
“I go there running quite often, to keep an eye on the place – I don’t trust Hywel at all.”
Ed is once again perturbed
Ed is wearing his worried look again.
An awful lot of money for a dress to wear only once!
Kelly pays for the dress and will be back in a couple of weeks;  she tells Anita, “I’ve paid £1,000 and there’s £500 to go – I’m glad she can do the alterations.   I’m so happy I could burst!
"Now we need something for you, Matron of Honour!"
“Now we have to find something for you to wear, Matron of Honour.”
"Ooh, Kelly – I'd love to!"
Anita is very surprised, but Kelly asks her, “I’d like you, please, to be my Matron of Honour, I want you to wear something vintage – classy, but vintage.”
She embraces Kelly
Anita embraces her.
"Don't force me to throw you out again"
Gwyneth is putting on her coat as Garry tells her, “Please don’t force me to throw you out again.”   She argues that she cannot help it if Gwern heard people talking,
"People wouldn't talk if you behaved properly!"
but Garry stresses, “People wouldn’t be talking if you behaved properly.   All you do is pretend you want to make an effort with the village!”
She protests that she is trying her best, but he informs her that it is not good enough;
"Why on earth did you gatecrash the party?"
“Why on earth did you want to gatecrash last night’s party?   You never learn, do you?   You may not have done anything last night, but you’ve got history, Gwyn.   People know you and don’t want to be in your company –
"Now Gwern knows, I'm the baddie!"
“now that Gwern knows what happened last night, I’m the baddie!   I’ve got a business to run, and Brenda was a customer – I didn’t have a choice.”
"Look, I'm sorry, Garry"
Gwyneth says that she is sorry, and does not know what else to say;  he makes it very clear,
"Do that again, and there will be trouble!"
“You dare upset Gwern like that again, and there will be trouble!   Off you go – I’ve got work to do!”
"Now's your chance, Ger!"
Jaclyn is doing the ironing when she hears Brenda coming downstairs;  “Now’s your chance – no excuses this time,” she tells Gerwyn.
Brenda takes a swig of brandy
Brenda says she will be feeling better when she has had a drop of brandy.
"You shouldn't have told Garry we'd pay the bill!"
Gerwyn wants to have a chat with her;  You shouldn’t have told Garry we would pay the bill for the party without talking to us first.”
"You'll have to pay it!"
Jaclyn interrupts, “What he’s trying to say is, you’ll have to pay it!”   Then there is a pause, before Gerwyn sheepishly informs his mother that she is always welcome there.
"This is the thanks I get!"
“But you want me to go home,” Brenda completes his sentence, and he reminds her she was only supposed to be staying temporarily.   “I worked hard organising the party, and this is the thanks I get,” she goes on,
"We can't afford to pay your debts!"
and Jaclyn points out that they cannot afford to pay off her debts.
Brenda is disappointed in her son
“I’m not concerned about the money – I’ll pay the bill – but it concerns me that you’re so ungrateful!” moans Brenda.
"You've made us a laughing stock!"
“Ungrateful?   All you’ve done is embarrass us and make us a laughing stock!” rages Jaclyn, and Brenda is surprised that her son is siding with his wife, rather than her.
"That's it!   I want you out now!"
Now Jaclyn has had enough, and shouts, “That’s it!   I want you out now!”
Brenda exclaims that she will be glad to leave, and Gerwyn looks his usual confused self.
Ed looks at the photo on his phone
Ed looks again at the photo on his phone,
Gaynor looks as if she is texting someone
then sees that Gaynor is typing something on her phone;
"Why is the café closed, Ed?"
Kelly comes into the Deri, and asks him why café is closed.
He manufactures an excuse
He lies that there was a problem with the electrics, but the electrician has put it right and he was just on his way back there.
Kelly says that she would rather sit here, drinking bubbles;
"Wait till you see what I'm wearing at the wedding!"
“You’ll be in a good mood too on our wedding day, when you see what I’m wearing!”
She goes to get him another drink, and he notices that Gaynor has now finished typing;
The message Ed receives . . .
then his phone sounds and he sees the message, “Your secret’s safe, but for how long?”
. . . and Gaynor's smile . . .
He is again very concerned, and as he looks up, Gaynor is just leaving and smiles at him;
. . . make Ed very agitated
obviously he has his suspicions.
