Llinos is on duty in the shop today
In the shop, Ffion remarks to Garry that Aaron did not seem happy at school;
"He's grounded!"
“He’s grounded – he doesn’t like the fact he can’t do whatever he wants,” Garry tells her.   Ffion knows that feeling, as she now has a meeting with Gaynor.
Brenda comes in, but only very briefly
Hywel comes into the shop, followed by Brenda,
"Ah, Brenda!"
but as soon as she sees Garry, she turns round and walks out again;  “She owes me money – don’t ask!” Garry comments.
"I'm bringing someone to the Deri for lunch"
Hywel will be bringing someone for lunch in the Deri later, so Garry will keep him a table.
Hywel asks Eileen about Sioned;  he is told that she is doing well and will be moved out of intensive care in a few days.
"I want a word with you, Hywel"
“I wanted a word with you, actually,” she goes on, as Ed walks in, “I’m considering taking out a restraining order against Angela, but to do that I have to bring a case against her and find out where she is.   Have you heard from her?   The police might want to ask you if you know where she is.”
He has no interest in where she is
Hywel has no idea, and no interest either,
This talk of Angela affects Ed's conscience
but Ed, who has been listening, is looking very troubled.   Hywel points out that his relationship with Angela was just a bit of fun,
"It wasn't much 'fun' when she took Huwi and tried to kill Sioned!'
but Eileen stresses, “Well, it wasn’t much ‘fun’ when she took my son and tried to kill Sioned!”
"Well, you knew what she was like"
Hywel reminds her that she welcomed Angela back, knowing what she was like.
“So did you – but that didn’t stop you welcoming her into your bed!” snarls Eileen, “But I suppose it was a way of getting information about Pwll Bach.”   Hywel maintains that business is business, but she prefers to call it deception and betrayal.
"You'll have a better chance than you did with the other two!"
He suggests that she should give up being a busybody where Pwll Bach is concerned;  “Then you will have a better chance of raising your son than you did with the other two!”   She replies that of course he is a perfect parent.
"Just let us show what we can do, Kelly!"
Dani is speaking to Kelly, wanting an opportunity to show what they can do, but Kelly says that she is not interested.   “You must be, or Ed wouldn’t have come to the Deri yesterday,” Dani comments, but is reminded that Garry was super-rude to him.   Dani goes on, “I’ve had some amazing ideas, OK?   What do you think of ‘Bowl Food’?
Mention of Harry and Meghan gets Kelly's attention
“You know, like at Harry’s and Meghan’s wedding – relaxed, low-key but classy.   Quality food, you know.”
Ed wants to steer clear of the Deri
At this point, Ed comes in, and Kelly tells him, “Dani’s suggesting that we should have ‘Bowl Food’ at the wedding.”   Dani has made some tasters for them to try in the Deri, but his mind seems to be made up that they are not having the meal there.
"At least, sample the food, Ed!"
Dani pleads for one more chance;  “At least, sample the food!” and he gives in;  she asks for some idea of the number of guests to be catered for, and leaves the flat.
Kelly wonders where the milk is, which Ed was supposed to be getting;  he gives the excuse that there was a queue in the shop, so she will get some later, but they must start making a guest list.
"Don't forget – 'Bowl Food'!"
He is not keen to have the reception in the Deri, but Kelly reminds him of the up-to-the-minute term, ‘Bowl Food’.
"I didn't realise how much work this would be"
In the café, Gaynor tells Ffion she did not realise how much work it would be, as they study some school paperwork;
"He's changed so much, hasn't he?"
seeing Hywel walking past, Ffion comments, “He has changed so much, hasn’t he?   Mind, it’s no wonder after everything that has happened.”
"That doesn't justify what he intends to do"
Gaynor replies, “But going through a terrible experience does not justify what he intends to do at Pwll Bach.”   Then she notices Hywel shaking hands with someone she recognises;
"Isn't that Ieuan Griffiths?"
“Isn’t that Ieuan Griffiths?   Ffion agrees that she has not seen him for years.   “Isn’t he involved with the council?
"I bet Hywel's trying to butter him up!"
“I bet Hywel’s trying to butter him up to get his help with Pwll Bach!   We have to do something!   Find out what Hywel’s plan is – and stop him!”
Ffion points out that they are very busy with this project, but Gaynor wants her to finish it on her own;
"This is far more imporatant than an educational project!"
“I’m going to phone round to find out what’s going on.   Stopping Pwll Bach is far more important than an educational project!”
"Don't let the governors hear you say that!"
Ffion advises, “Don’t let the governors hear you say that!”
"Twelve names – including my Mam"
Kelly and Ed are working on the list of guests, of which Kelly has twelve at the moment, which does include her mother;  Ed is all in favour of this, but she warns, “You might not say that if you’d met her.”
"Only two – Gemma and Andrew"
He has only two names – Gemma and Andrew, but he doubts that they will come.
"We shall have to invite Sioned and Angela, to make up the numbers"
“Wow!” exclaims Kelly, “At this rate we’ll have to invite Sioned and Angela, to make up the numbers!”
This does not go down well with Ed
His expression changes, and she assures him that it was only meant as a joke;
"I don't want any of your 'exes' at my wedding!"
“I don’t want any of your ‘exes’ at my wedding!   Ed – chill.”   He decides he will go and get the milk.
Brenda ignores Garry as he shouts . . .
Brenda is just rounding the corner by the chippy
. . . "Hey, Brenda!"
when Garry shouts to her, but she simply drives on and ignores him.   When she swerves into the alley,
"She should come with a public health warning"
Eileen remarks that she should come with a public health warning.
"Hywel had no right to talk to you like that"
Ed tells her that Hywel had no right to talk to her like that this morning;  she acknowledges, “I wasn’t very nice to him, either.”
"Angela brings out the worst in everyone"
He comments that Angela brings out the worst in them, and wonders if she is serious about the restraining order;  Eileen maintains that it is important, but he suggests, “Don’t you think you should let it drop?   That’s what I said to Sioned yesterday – don’t let Angela control your lives – move on.”
"I think it will help us to move on"
Eileen is of the opinion that the restraining order would help them to move on, but he considers it to be a step back.   “I don’t know what it’s got to do with you – you’re not part of the family now!” she reminds him,
"You sort out your wedding, OK?"
“You sort out your wedding, and I’ll sort out Angela, OK?”
"I think Hywel is trying to bribe someone"
Then Gaynor comes across the road and startles Ed;  “I think Hywel is trying to bribe someone who works for the council to get help with Pwll Bach,” she explains, but Ed does not have the time to get involved.
"You're not still worried about that kiss, are you?"
“You’ve changed your tune,” she continues, “You’re not still worried about that kiss, are you?”   He replies that he has far more important things on his mind, and walks away.
Gaynor goes to investigate further
Gaynor heads purposefully towards Hywel’s house;  inside,
"Very organised!"
Hywel’s guest comments, “Very organised – the primary concern is certainly the environmental impact.   Trees, flowers, animals – nature is what matters.
He seems inordinately interested in a free lunch
“Have you booked anywhere for lunch?”
"I wanted to book a session with Rhys"
Then there is a knock at the door, and Gaynor comes in, ostensibly to book a session with Rhys;
"I haven't seen you for years, Ieuan"
“Ieuan, sorry to intrude,” she says, “I haven’t seen you for years – where have you been hiding?”
He replies that it is lovely to see her, that she has not changed at all;  she asks if he is still with the council, and he replies, “Yes, still doing my civic duty.”   She enquires if that is what brings him to Cwmderi today,
"Oh, no – just having lunch with an old friend"
but he tells her, “I’m just having lunch with an old friend.”   Gaynor suggests that they should have lunch sometime,
Hywel wants to get Gaynor out
and Hywel is eager for her to leave, saying he will pass on the message to Rhys.
He apologises to Ieuan,
"What came over you when you divorced her?"
who asks, “What came over you when you divorced her?”
Kelly is impressed with all the food – in bowls
Kelly and Ed arrive at the Deri flat, where the sample food is laid out – appropriately in bowls;  apparently, Dani was up half the night preparing it.
"Small portions that you can eat quickly"
“The idea is – small portions that you can eat quickly, before moving onto the next bowl – try them!”
"I'm sorry for earlier, Kel"
Ed apologises to Kelly for earlier, and she wonders whether he is stressed about the wedding, asking if he wants to postpone it.
"I was embarrassed there were so few names on my list"
He alleges, “I was just a bit embarrassed that there were so few names on my list – I don’t want to talk about my ‘exes’ either!   I don’t want any thoughts of my ‘exes’ –
"I only want to have thoughts of you!"
“I only want to have thoughts of you!   And I’ll never forgive you if you mention postponing it again!”
"Ah – how sweet!"
They kiss, and Dani comments, “How sweet!   Come on, please try the food!”   Ed hears a sound from his phone,
It seems someone does not like Ed . . .
and finds a text message with the single word ‘SCUM,’
. . . and he looks apprehensive
which causes him some apprehension.
"The Deri has changed since I was here last"
Hywel takes Ieuan to the Deri, which has changed since he was last there, and is introduced to the owner, Garry Monk;  “I haven’t seen you for years –
"Been in prison, have you?"
“been in prison, have you?” enquires Garry.   He hands them two menus,
"We'll have a bottle of red wine"
and Ieuan orders a bottle of red wine.
Kelly and Ed come downstairs from their tasting session, looking considerably happier;
Dani announces they will have their reception in the Deri
Dani announces to Garry, “They have decided to have their wedding feast here – and Garry is sorry for being so rude – “aren’t you, Garry?”
"I have to go, Kelly"
Ed has to go, and leaves Kelly to sort out the details.
Kelly notices some animosity between them
Approaching the door, he meets Gaynor, and they look awkwardly at each other.
Gaynor sits within earshot of her quarries
Gaynor carefully sits down behind the partition, so that she can eavesdrop on what Hywel is saying.
Ed gets out his phone . . .
Outside, Ed takes out his phone
. . . and dials that number . . .
and dials the number from which the text came;
. . . but without success
he is greeted by a message, “I’m sorry but the person you’ve called is not available.”   He goes to the shop and selects a bunch of flowers.
"Not too much – just enough"
As Garry clears away the dishes, Ieuan pronounces that it was a perfect lunch;  “Not too much – just enough.   If I eat too much at lunchtime, I sleep in the afternoon.”   As Gaynor listens intently from her vantage point, Hywel suggests that it may be connected with the amount of wine and brandy he has consumed, but Ieuan insists, “Alcohol makes you sharp – food makes you sleepy.”
Dani is pleased to be vindicated
Dani points out to Garry that her idea of smaller portions was a good one, and Ieuan boasts that he has a lot of experience of eating in restaurants and hotels.   “It’s the quality of the food that’s important, not the quantity.”   Much to Dani’s satisfaction, Garry agrees they will have a one-month trial.
"How soon will things get moving?"
Hywel wants to get down to business;  “Tell me – how soon do you think things will get moving?” and Gaynor realises this is what she has been waiting for.
"It may be declined"
“Listen, I think you should be prepared for the access application to be declined,” Ieuan begins, “Perhaps you misunderstood what I told you.”
"Sorry, Eileen, I shouldn't have interfered"
At Penrhewl, Ed brings Eileen the flowers as an apology;  “I shouldn’t have interfered – it’s up to you what you do, but I was in the room when Angela was with Sioned.”
"I understand you're part of this"
Eileen understands that he is part of this, and she should have been rather friendlier;
"The whole thing is making me ill"
“The whole thing is making me ill.”   He wonders if it would not be better to forget all about it, but she explains, “There’s another reason why I want to find her.   Nobody has seen or heard from her for a week –
Eileen has an ulterior motive
“I’m concerned that something has happened to her.   I thought if I took out a restraining order against her, the police would have to search for her and find her.   I have contacted them, but unless they find her, there’s nothing anyone can do but wait.”
"She has run away in shame – she's done it before"
Ed tells her, “I really do believe that she ran away in shame – she’s done it before!   I’m sure she hasn’t come to any harm.”
"It's my imagination working overtime"
Eileen concludes that perhaps it is her imagination working overtime, and it is no surprise after everything that has happened.
"Sioned is recovering and Huwi is doing well"
“You do know that Sioned is recovering and Huwi is doing well,” he reminds her and she acknowledges that they are very fortunate;
"I have to forget about her – until she comes back"
she has to forget about Angela – until she comes back.   Ed points out that she may not.
"Sioned said that you have changed"
Eileen remarks that Sioned said he had changed, and that she was right.
"You didn't say that before I bought you the meal!"
The discussion in the Deri continues;  “Environmental factors are difficult for the committee to discuss,” maintains Ieuan, but Hywel is aggrieved that he did not say that before he was treated to a costly meal.”   Gaynor smiles at this comment.
"There's more than one route for access"
“Let me finish – I’ve got an idea.   There’s more than one route for access,” Ieuan continues, but Hywel is aware they cannot cross Penrhewl’s land.   “What about over here, on the far side?   A new entrance and access road to the mine.   The council would need to do a survey but it looks all right to me, and it’s further away from Cwmderi.”
Ieuan is off now for another free meal

Hywel is now more favourably disposed to him, and thinks that it was worth the lunch.    “I have to go – I’m having tea with someone who wants to open a zoo,” says Ieuan, “You look into it, then let’s discuss it next week.”
Hywel accompanies him as far as the door,
Gaynor takes a couple of quick snaps
and Gaynor seizes her opportunity to take a couple of quick photographs of the plans with her phone.
"Hey – what are you doing?"
“Hey!   What are you doing?” Hywel demands, and she replies that she is gathering evidence to show that he bribed a counsellor;
"We'll see what everyone else has to say!"
“We’ll see what everyone else has to say about a new access road!” she tells him.
He recommends that she needs to find something better to do, as all this hatred and anger is reflected on her face.   He quickly folds up all his plans.
"In the Deri, Gaynor looked angry"
In the café flat, Kelly asks why Gaynor was angry with Ed;  “In the Deri she looked angry,”
"She wanted to talk to me about the protest"
and he explains that she wanted to talk to him earlier about Pwll Bach and the protest – he could not be bothered, but supposes he should have been more friendly.   He proudly announces that he has five on his list now.
"You're all right about this 'Bowl Food' thingy, aren't you?"
“You’re all right about this ‘Bowl Food’ thingy, aren’t you?” she asks, “I’m not pushing you into it, am I?”   He answers that it is a great idea,
"Can you take this deposit to the Deri?"
and she would like him to take the deposit to the Deri.
He deletes the text message
He looks at his phone, and deletes the text message.
A poor attendance for Gaynor's emergency meeting
Gaynor has phoned several people, but only Ffion has responded;
"Mrs Parry, would you like to join us?"
Gaynor invites Brenda Parry to join them, as they are discussing Pwll Bach.
"No, I don't like swimming"
She refuses, as she does not like swimming;  then she sees Ed again, and says, “Hello, handsome!”
"Sorry about earlier, Gaynor!"
He tells Gaynor that he is sorry about earlier;  “I’ve got a lot on with the wedding – but I was very rude.”   She invites him to the emergency meeting, and he agrees out of politeness.
"He's intending to build a new road"
Gaynor begins, “I heard Hywel discussing his planning application for Pwll Bach with a councillor today – it’s possible he won’t be seeking planning permission for access as it stands, so he’s intending to build a new road, and remove the entrance to here,” as she points to the map on her phone.
"The shaft where we were rescued"
Dani has joined them, as Gaynor explains, “It’s the shaft where we were rescued during the fall.”
This is not good news to Ed
This has captured Ed’s attention, and he asks how likely it is that Hywel will get permission.   “Griffiths is on his side,” Gaynor points out, but Ffion imagines that a new road will be too expensive.
He runs from the Deri
Ed looks stunned as Dani points out they will need loads of surveys before the bulldozers go in.   “Yes, but he will, and there will be no stopping him opening the place,” Gaynor tells them.   Ed suddenly gets up from his chair and rushes out of the pub.
Dani provides some sample food
Dani takes a sample of the type of food they will have for the buffet over to Brenda, and Garry reminds her that she has not paid a deposit yet;  once more she comes up with the excuse that she has left her purse at home.   “You wouldn’t force a disabled old woman out into the cold?   I will be struggling!”
"You won't struggle on a mobility scooter!"
Garry points out that she will not struggle on a mobility scooter, but she asks for small brandy, and he wants the deposit tomorrow, although she says she will see what she thinks of the food first.
"Would anyone notice if I tampered with the brakes?"
On the way back to the bar, Garry mutters, “Would anyone notice if I tampered with the brakes on her scooter?”
Ed is in the throes of a full-scale panic
Ed returns to the café flat in a state of panic;  in his mind’s eye, he can see Angela looking down the mineshaft,
He sees Angela at the foot of the shaft . . .
then himself pushing her, followed by her fall to the bottom.
. . . and is distraught
He is absolutely distraught.
