Colin is in the interview room
Colin sits in the interview room at the police station;
"You are permitted one phone call"
DI Davies informs him that he has the right to one phone call.
"Neville is not to be trusted!"
Colin does not want to phone Britt, but is permitted to contact another number;  “I want you to know Neville is not to be trusted – he’s dangerous!” he says,
"You can have your say all in good time"
but the DI advises he can have his say all in good time.
Dani is clearing up in the Deri when the phone rings;
"OK, I'll tell him, Colin"
she tells Colin that Garry is not there at the moment, but will pass his message on.
"Colin just phoned from the cop shop"
When Garry comes in, she tells him, “Colin just phoned from the cop shop – he wants to talk to you.   What’s going on?”
Brenda returns to her flat
Brenda comes into her flat and picks up the post;
"Damn you!   Giving an old lady a fine!"
she takes a paper from her pocket, and tears it up, growling, “Damn you, giving an old lady a fine!”
She is obviously not in a good mood
She takes a ready meal from the fridge, viciously punctures the film covering it,
The microwave is turned on
and puts it in the microwave, then looks at the items of post,
The post is uninteresting . . .
which do not interest her until she finds an advertising leaflet,
. . . until she sees this leaflet
which reads, “Infestation?   Call us now!”  She looks upwards, thinks of the rats upstairs, and has an brainwave.
"I know when you're lying, Garry!"
Upstairs, in the Deri flat, Dani is angry;  “I know when you’re lying!” she tells him, “Colin said you would understand and help.   All right – swear on Seren’s life that you have no idea what’s going on!”
"Colin attacked Neville"
He finally reveals to her, “Colin’s been arrested for attacking Neville.   He has been posing as a friend to Aaron – been grooming him.   That’s why Colin is in the cop shop – he lost his temper, attacked Neville, but instead of keeping quiet about it, he confessed to it.”
"Colin and I were chasing him"
Dani is shocked, but wonders how Garry knows all this;  “I was there – Colin and I were chasing him.”
"When are you going to stop behaving like a vigilante?"
“Garry, when are you going to stop behaving like a vigilante?” she squeals, “You should have gone to the police – does Britt know?   You have to tell her –
"Just hope that Colin doesn't land you in trouble"
“just hope that Colin does not land you in trouble.”
'Mother's Boy' Gerwyn is worried
Gerwyn is preoccupied, and takes no notice of Jaclyn, who has a pot plant which is reputed to bring luck and happiness to the family.
"I haven't heard from Mam"
“I haven’t heard from Mam, to find out how it went into court,” he frets, “I tried to phone but there was no answer.”
Jaclyn says that his mother is always all right, but he is convinced that something is wrong.   Then the phone rings;
"Help!   Rats!   They're everywhere!"
Jaclyn hears a voice shouting, “Help!   Rats!   They’re everywhere!   There are rats all over the place!”
Brenda continues with the amateur dramatics
She passes the phone to Gerwyn, who is treated to the charade of Brenda exclaiming, “Shoo – get away!”
"Get out of the flat, Mam!"
Gerwyn’s advice is for her to get out of the flat, and then she abruptly ends the call.   Gullible Gerwyn has swallowed the bait, and Brenda looks very pleased with herself.
At the police station, DI Davies summarises, “So you’re saying you planned what you did,”
"It wasn't meant to happen"
but Colin denies this, saying he did not plan it, but what happened was not meant to happen.
"We have all day"
He is unable to explain himself, and the DI points out they can do this the easy way or the hard way;  “We’re being paid to sit here – we have all day.”
"But he deserved it!"
Colin admits that he did attack Neville, that it was a moment of madness;  “But so you understand – he deserved it.”
"He deserved to be beaten black and blue?"
The DI contests the claim that he deserved to be beaten black and blue in broad daylight.
"He was pretending to be a child!"
“Yes,” continues Colin, “He had been talking to Aaron, through the games console – sending texts.   Pretending to be a friend – pretending to be a child!   I’m sure of that – I’ve seen the conversations.”
"A sensible person would have reported it to the police"
“A sensible and responsible person would have reported it to the police,” he is told, but answers that he was trying to be sensible and responsible, but was also trying to protect Aaron.
"I don't think you acted alone, Mr Evans"
“We’ve looked into your background, Mr Evans – there wasn’t much to see, to be honest,” comments DI Davies, “No history of violence, anyway.   I don’t think you acted alone – the planning, the snaring, the violence.   Come on, who was with you?”
Colin remains silent
Colin remains silent.
"Have you got Aaron's phone?"
Garry goes across to the chip shop flat, where he tells Britt to sit down;
"Is Aaron all right?"
“What’s happened?   Is Aaron all right?” she demands.
"Colin attacked Neville!"
He tells her Colin is with the police;  “He attacked Neville!” and she wonders what that has to do with Aaron, pointing out that Colin has always been jealous, but cannot believe he would attack Neville.
"Neville has been grooming Aaron!"
Garry continues, “It wasn’t jealousy, Britt – Neville has an interest in children – he’s been grooming Aaron!”
"He's not like that – just a bit irresponsible"
She is sure that he must have misunderstood, as he is not like that, only a bit irresponsible.
"He was friends with you to get close to Aaron"
Garry shouts, “Britt!   He wanted everyone to like him – he was friends with you to get close to Aaron.
"He's been pretending to be a child"
He is ‘Ben’, Aaron’s friend online – he’s been pretending to be a child.”   She maintains that he would never do that, as it is sick.
"Did he ever try it on with you?"
Garry spells it out, “He was more interested in Aaron than you – did he ever try it on with you?   Kiss you?   Cuddle you?”
"I'll castrate him if he's touched Aaron!"
Britt erupts, “I’ll kill him!   That pervert has been grooming my son!   I’ll castrate him if he’s touched Aaron!”    She is assured by Garry that he has not touched Aaron, as they caught him in time, and Aaron knows nothing about this.
"We've got evidence of his guilt"
“We’ve got evidence of his guilt,” says Garry,
"Well, I'm going to the police station"
but when Britt says she is going down to the police station,
"Don't do anything silly, Britt!"
Garry does not want to become involved, and warns her not to do anything silly.
The Defibrillator fund-raising committee meets
The fundraising committee is meeting in the Deri, and have agreed to organise a race in three weeks’ time.   Rhys does not think that just running is funny enough, but Ffion does not want to run in fancy dress, so Rhys suggests that everyone could wear hearts.
Ffion throws beer all over Rhys . . .
Ffion, who has just been to get more drinks, turns and stumbles over her bag, spilling beer all over Rhys, who protests that he is soaking.   She is very apologetic, and says it was a silly place to leave her bag.
. . . and he takes off his shirt
He immediately takes off his shirt, and Eifion lends him a jacket.
Brenda makes a devious payment of £10
In Brenda’s flat, she is in the process of paying someone £10, and tells him, “Come back to get them tomorrow.”   He is on his way out when Gerwyn arrives, and she says to the stranger, “Thank you for looking after me, you can go now – this is my son.”
"There were loads of them!"
Then she tells her fantasy tale to Gerwyn, “I came back from court and there were loads of them!   They weren’t pets – I could tell –
"I'm sure they carry infections!"
“I’m sure they carry infections.   Justin heard me screaming and tried to catch them, but I don’t think he caught them all.   They were even under the bath last night, scratching and making a noise!”
"I'll check to see if they've gone"
He will check to see if they have gone,
"They've ruined my home!"
but his mother very theatrically whines that they have ruined her home.   Just as she had planned,
He makes the discovery as planned
he finds one of them, caught in a trap, and she insists she cannot stay there, and is booking into a B&B.
"You're coming home with me!"
“No, you’re coming home with me!” Gullible Gerwyn tells her, “You’re not staying in a B&B – get your stuff, and I’ll put the scooter in the car.”
She has got one over on her son yet again
She is jubilant that she has yet again won.
"Interview restarts at six o'clock"
DI Davies returns to the interview room, and announces for the benefit of the tape, “DI Davies is back in the room with PC Hughes;  the interview restarts at six o’clock.”   Colin thought that they had finished,
"Neville McRoy has given a statement"
but she informs him, “We’ve found the man you attacked, Neville McRoy, and he has given a statement.   He is in hospital, and as you know he has injuries, but according to his statement, the attack was carried out by a gang of youths.”
Colin cannot believe his ears, and she goes on, “He says he wasn’t anywhere near Cwmderi.”
"Of course he was – I chased him!"
Colin insists that he was, and that he was chased from the bridge;  “It’s obvious he does not want to be connected with us – with Aaron!
"Can't you see?   He knows what he's done!"
“Can’t you see?   He knows what he’s done!”
"We will charge you with ABH"
The DI confirms that Colin still insists he was responsible for the attack, and that with his confession, and a witness statement they have enough evidence to charge him with ABH – Actual Bodily Harm.   “As Neville McRoy has not made an official complaint against you, it’s up to the CPS what happens next.   Do you have anything to say?”
"Interview concludes at two minutes past six"
As Colin has no further comments, the interview is concluded at two minutes past six.   “You’re free to go, Mr Evans – you are being released on bail.
Colin is told not to do anything stupid
“We’ll be in touch, so don’t do anything stupid.”
"It's just because I'm one of the Monks!"
Out in the police station reception, Britt is noisily remonstrating with the desk officer;  “That DI Davies isn’t too busy to see me – it’s just because I’m one of the Monks she won’t talk to me, that’s all!”
"Oh, Colin!"
The DI comes through a door, with Colin, and Britt demands if he is free to go.
"I don't reveal anything to people who are not involved"
“I don’t reveal anything to people who are not involved in the case,” the DI replies.   Colin says that he has been charged with ABH, and the hearing is in two weeks.   The DI gives him his bail papers, and advises him not to forget the date.
"He was protecting an innocent child!"
Britt protests that Colin should not be there in the first place;  “He was protecting an innocent child!   That monster is still out there!”
"We have received a complaint against Neville McRoy"
DI Davies points out they have received a complaint against Neville McRoy, and they will deal with the matter in depth.   Colin still does not regret what he did, but assures Britt that everything will be all right;
"I just want to go home, Britt"
now he simply wants to go home.
They have arranged a road closure for the race
At the meeting in the Deri, they have arranged that the relevant road will be officially closed for the event;  Gwyneth thanks them all for their time, saying that it means a lot to her.
A highly delighted Hywel comes in
As Ffion waits at the bar, Hywel comes in, looking very pleased with himself;  “I’m celebrating –
"I've been given planning permission"
“I’ve been given planning permission for Pwll Bach!   I’ll phone my solicitor next to go ahead with the purchase.”   Ffion remarks that he has got a nerve.
Just when Jaclyn is relaxing . . .
Jaclyn sits down to watch the television, but just then the door opens and her mother-in-law is back.
. . . her obnoxious mother-in-law is back
“With court and the rats, well, I couldn’t bear to stay,” she lies, “Any chance of a cup of tea?”
Jaclyn looks far from happy
Jaclyn says that she will speaks to Gerwyn later, but is now going to work;  she also informs Brenda that there is no milk.
The old woman settles down with TV and chocolates
Brenda settles down to watch a film on the television, having again got her own way, and helps herself to some Cadbury’s Roses chocolates.
"ABH?"
Garry pours out a couple of drinks;  “ABH?” he says, and Colin tells him the hearing is in two weeks.
"You do realise what that could mean?"
“You do you realise what that could mean, don’t you?” Garry asks.   Colin is well aware that he could go to prison, but considers Neville got what he deserved.
"Britt didn't do anything stupid, did she?"
“How’s Britt?   She didn’t do anything stupid at the station, did she?” Garry enquires, but Colin replies she has more sense than that.   “Does the DI want to talk to me?” is the next question.
"I didn't mention you, Garry!"
“I didn’t mention you – you’ve got a young family, Garry,” Colin answers, “And Britt will need you now more than ever.”
"Neville can't hide for ever!"
Garry thanks him, and predicts, “Neville will get what he deserves for this – he can’t hide for ever!”
