An intruder creeps around Penrhewl . . .
During the night, something is happening at Penrhewl;  a person in light-coloured jeans is prowling in the kitchen,
. . . opens a cupboard door . . .
opens a cupboard door and begins to put provisions into a bag,
. . . and drops a tin of baked beans
but drops a tin of Heinz baked beans.
It is none other than Jim
The noise has not gone unnoticed, but Eifion rushes in, grabbing a convenient walking stick, to confront the intruder;
"Jim – what the hell are you doing?"
“Jim – what the hell are you doing?   I thought you were a burglar!” he demands, and Eileen wonders why he had not said he was coming home.
He does not look exactly pleased to see Eileen
She hurries across and hugs him, exclaiming, “I’ve missed you so much!”   Jim stands there, looking stunned, while Eifion thinks the whole situation is suspicious.
Gwern is loading the washing machine
Gwern is loading items into the washing machine
"What are you doing, up so early, Gwern?"
when his mother discovers him;  he tries to pretend he is not doing anything, but finally tells her,
"Don't be angry – I had an accident"
“Don’t be angry – I didn’t mean to – I had an accident, I’m sorry.”
"Never mind – these things happen"
Gwyneth assures him that it does not matter;  “These things happen,” but he thought she would be angry with him.   “Why would you think that?
"It's not the end of the world"
“It’s not the end of the world,”
"Please don't tell Dad!"
but he warns her not to tell his Dad.   She replies that his father would not be angry either, and suggests that they have pancakes for breakfast – banana and chocolate.
He reminds her that it is not his birthday,
"We don't always need an excuse for pancakes"
but she says that they do not always need an excuse,
Gwyneth is concerned about him
and looks very concerned.
Eileen has provided Jim with food and drink
Eileen has given Jim something to eat and drink, and Eifion asks when his flight landed;  “You could have told us, you know.”
"One little phone call would not have been too much bother!"
Jim mumbles that he did not know when he would arrive home, and he was tired. “One little phone call would not have been too much bother!” Eifion continues, “The last thing we needed was hearing noises downstairs –
"It hasn't been easy for Eileen, while you've been away!"
“it hasn’t been easy for Eileen while you’ve been away!”
"Why – what's happened?"
Jim wants to know what has happened, and Eileen says she will talk to him about it after breakfast, then asks how his cousin is.
"Erm . . . he's on the mend"
“Erm . . . hes on the mend,” Jim replies.   Eifion goes to get changed for work, and Jim demands, “So, what’s been happening?”
Kelly has had a card from Ricky
Anita is again at the hospital, fussing over the baby;  Kelly has already received several cards, including one from Ricky.
"Look at these – aren't they cute?"
Anita is rather intrigued by a tiny pair of shoes, which someone has given Kelly for the baby;  “There was nothing like this around when Darren and Dwayne were little.”
"It's hard to switch off"
Kelly is feeling very tired, and comments that it is hard to switch off;  Anita confirms that having a baby is a shock to the system.
The baby seems remarkably untroubled
“And I’m having problems breastfeeding,” Kelly informs her, “But they say it’s totally normal when you’ve had a Caesarian.
"Remember that doctor who was here last time?"
“Do you remember that doctor who was here last time, after . . ?   The one with the curly hair – I don’t want to be a pain, but could you ask if he’s here, please?”
"I'll go and ask"
Anita is sure that he would love to meet the little one, and Kelly recalls that his name is Dr Hughes.
Britt and Colin look at the newly-arrived artwork
As they stare up at the wall of the chippy,
"It's political art"
Guto explains, “It’s political art,” but Britt remembers that they called it vandalism when she wrote on the toilet walls at school.   He protests that this is completely different.
"Is that something like Banksy would do?"
Colin wonders if this looks like something Banksy would do, and Guto points out, “There are so many hidden messages in Banksy’s work –
"When you see polar bears, what do you think of?"
“when you see polar bears, what do you think of?”
"Glacier mints?"
Colin suggests, “Glacier mints?   Snow – Ice?”
"What does it bring to mind?"
Guto continues that snow, ice and the North Pole bring something to mind, but not what Britt guesses – Santa Claus, which rather discourages him.
"Yes, the melting ice"
Then Colin mentions the melting ice, and Guto goes on, “Yes, the melting ice, the bears are losing their habitat – it’s about the environment.   It’s much more than polar bears,”
Colin now gets the message
and now Colin understands.
Dani seems to have forgotten her own child, Seren
In the Deri flat, Dani informs Garry, “It was amazing!   I’ve never seen anything like him – he’s perfect –
"I was the first one to give him a cwtch!"
“and I was the first one to give him a cwtch!   A completely new person, and I was the first – he looked at me too – his eyes are so blue.”   Garry asks if she has a lot on today,
"I'm going to the hospital, Garry"
and she replies that she is going to the hospital, which he finds concerning.
"That doctor now works in another hospital"
Anita returns to Kelly, advising her that the doctor is no longer there, but works at another hospital, which Kelly finds disappointing.
"You've got plenty of people to talk to here . . ."
“You’ve got plenty of people to talk to here –
". . . but I have to go
“I have to go now, because I’ve got a million things to do.”
"I don't like being left alone"
Kelly does not like being left alone, but is told that she ought to rest;  Auntie Anita will come back later,
Kelly has a magazine to look at . . .
and gives her a Mother and Baby magazine to look at.
. . . and the baby sleeps on, regardless
“I really appreciate everything you’re doing,” says Kelly.
"Should I take flowers, Garry?"
Dani asks whether it is permitted to take flowers to hospital wards, as some hospitals are funny about allergies, then decides she may take body butter and fruit instead.   Garry suggests, “Perhaps Kelly needs a bit of peace now,”
"Kelly will want to catch up with all the gossip"
but is told that she will want to catch up with all the gossip.
"You're not going to get too attached to this baby, are you?"
“Dan, you are all right, aren’t you?” he goes on, “You’re not going to get too attached to this baby?”
"Therer's nothing to worry about, Garry, I'm fine"
She insists that everyone likes babies, and there is nothing to worry about, as she is fine.”
Then his phone rings . . .
Then his phone sounds, and while he is distracted Danny leaves the flat.
. . . and he ignores the call from Gwyneth
He finds that the call is from Gwyneth, but ignores it;
What Garry said makes her think
at the bottom of stairs, Dani is putting on her boots, and ponders whether there is any truth in what Garry said.   Then she leaves for the hospital.
"I found a sleeping bag in one of the sheds"
Eifion comes into the farmhouse, informing Jim that he has just found a sleeping bag in one of the sheds;  “Someone’s been sleeping there,” and Jim thinks it is probably a tramp.
Eifion begins to tell him about Jessie
“The thing is – and Eileen didn’t want you to know this – but I think you should know, Eifion begins, “This woman, Jessie . . .”
"Eileen's explained everything"
Jim interrupts him, answering that Eileen has explained everything.   “What if she’s been staying there – watching Eileen from the shed?” says Eifion,
"I'm going to phone the police"
“You can’t be sure, can you?   I’m going to phone the police.   After everything that has happened, I’d rather be safe.”
"It was me"
Jim is forced to admit, after advising Eifion to put the sleeping bag in the bin and forget all about it, that it was actually him.   “I’ve been sleeping out there!” he mumbles.    Eifion wants to know when he got back from New Zealand, and he confesses he has been back a few days.
"Why were you sleeping out there?"
“Why were you sleeping out there instead of in here?” is Eifion’s next question;
"That's none of your business"
Jim snarls that it is none of his business, and the important thing is that he is now back.   He is quite adamant that Eileen does not need to know about it.
"Eileen has a right to know, after everything she's been through"
Eifion maintains she has a right to know, after everything she has been through.
“She wouldn’t understand!” Jim exclaims, and Eifion points out that he does not either.
"I can't explain it!"
“I can’t explain it!” says Jim, breaking down in tears,
"It's been three years since we lost Courtney"
“It’s been three years now since we lost Courtney – it’s on my mind all the time.   Sometimes I can’t think straight – I know it doesn’t make sense.”
"Eileen will understand"
Eifion urges him to tell Eileen, certain that she will understand;  “No, it’s not been long since we lost Angela –
"I don't want to hurt her even more"
“I don’t want to hurt her even more!” replies Jim.   Eifion is not comfortable with lying for him, but Jim insists, “She will just worry – and she’s got enough on her plate as it is!”   Eifion warns him to get his stuff out of the barn before Eileen finds it.
"Oh, this smells lush!"
Dani is back at the hospital, and once more cuddling the baby;  Kelly is pleased with the things Dani has brought.   “I’m fine, except for the breastfeeding – that’s a nightmare!” she says,
"Stick with it, Kel"
but Dani encourages her to stick with it, as it is much easier than sterilising and formula.   She is confident that it will come with time, and again describes the baby as gorgeous.
“You’re amazing, do you know that?   I would never be able to do this on my own,” Dani comments,
"You would if you had to, Dani"
but Kelly is sure that she would if she had to, pointing out that she is not on her own –
"I've got loads of friends"
she has Auntie Anita, Iolo and Tyler, joint godfathers, and Dani – loads of friends.
"What on earth is that?"
Garry comes out of the Deri and notices the new mural;
"Oi!   Britt!"
he bangs on the chip shop window and calls to Britt.
The polar bear, with his salt and vinegar
Both she and Colin come out, and Gary complains about the graffiti on the wall;
"I quite like it, Garry"
they say they have no idea who did it, but quite like it.
"Criminal damage is what I call it!"
Garry prefers to describe it as, “Criminal damage!   We’ll have to paint over it now!”
"It's political artwork, Garry"
Colin knowledgably points out to him, “Graffiti is art for everyone, isn’t it?   I would say it’s political artwork,” but Garry is unconvinced, and wants it gone.
"I shall have to think of something"
Colin hopes that he can think of some solution to their difficulty.
"What do you want?"
Garry continues to number 9, and wants to know why Gwyneth phoned him;  “Your moods have to stop!” she tells him,
"It means a child is worried about something"
“It’s affecting Gwern – he had an accident last night – he wet the bed.   I don’t want to make a fuss, but when a child does that, it means they’re worried about something.”
"I'm not a psychotherapist!"
“What do you expect me to do?   I’m not a psychotherapist!” snarls Garry, and then apologises, as he has had a busy day.
"We must try to be adults for once!"
Gwyneth demands that they must simply keep an eye on Gwern and try to be adults for once;  “And try to control this stress –
"When you're stressed, you stress me out!"
“because when you’re stressed, you stress me out, and it obviously stresses our son out!” she roars.
"All right – I'll try"
He says that he will try, and goes to put the kettle on.
"I hope you got rid of the evidence"
Eileen is out, feeding the chickens, and Jim tells Eifion that he has got rid of the evidence;  however, it is evident that did not make a very good job of it, as Eileen comes in, carrying the sleeping bag.
"Phone the police – I think this is Jessie's!"
“Eifion, phone the police!” she shouts, “This was in the big shed – someone’s been sleeping there!   I think it’s Jessie – she’s watching us!”
Eifion has to make up a story
Eifion has to make something up on the spur of the moment;  “It’s Steff, Cwm Bach, one of the boys – you don’t know him.   He had too to drink the other night, and had no money for a taxi – I meant to clear it up, but I forgot.”
"Well, why did he sleep outside?"
This allays Eileen’s fears, but she asks why he slept outside, and did not come into the house, which Eifion explains away, saying he was hammered and was not thinking straight.    Eileen wonders if Izzy knows about this Steff, and he assures her it will not happen again.
"We're not running a hostel here, Eifion!"
“I hope not, because we’re not running a hostel here, Eifion,” she warns him.
"I'm not sleeping well"
Jim had thought he had disposed of it, and remarks that he is not sleeping well;  “I’m not surprised – you’ve been sleeping in a shed for days!” is Eifion’s terse reply.
Dani shows her photos to Britt
Dani is in the chippy, showing the photos of the new baby to Britt,
"It must be hard, after what happened"
who suspects it must be hard for her, after what happened with her baby, but Dani again is insistent that she is fine.
"Dani, you're young and cool, aren't you?"
“Dani, you’re young and cool, aren’t you?” asks Colin, and she thinks that he is after something.   “No – I was wondering if you’ve seen the graffiti on the wall – Garry hates it, but graffiti is considered as art these days.
"That graffiti reminds me of something"
“I don’t know much about art, but it does remind me of something – the style and technique is very familiar.”
"Yes, it does look familiar, Col"
They go outside, and Dani agrees that it is familiar;
"I want that gone by tomorrow!"
Garry approaches, and angrily stipulates, “I want it gone by tomorrow!   I don’t like a mess!”
"What's that bloke called?   He paints balloons and stuff!"
Dani protests that she likes it, and that it is cool;  “What’s that bloke called?   He paints balloons and stuff . . . Banksy!”
"Yes, it does bear a resemblance to a Banksy!"
As she takes a photo of the polar bear, Guto joins them and remarks that it does bear a resemblance to a Banksy.
"If that's a Banksy, I'm Al Capone!"
Garry, on the other hand, insists, “If that’s a Banksy, I’m Al Capone!   A Banksy would be worth thousands!”   Guto hazards a guess at hundreds of thousands.   Dani is going to put her photo on Instagram and see what response she gets;  Colin and Britt are becoming quite excited.
"What's that sauce Gwern likes with his pasta?"
As they walk towards the Deri, Garry asks what is the sauce Gwern likes with his pasta, as he was thinking of making a nice dinner tonight;    he explains that Gwern has had a tough time recently.
"I won't be there – I'm going to the hospital"
Dani announces that she will not be there for dinner, as she is going to  the hospital, insisting that Kelly needs her.
"I need you, Dani – I miss you"
“I need you – I miss you!” Garry points out, and she promises she will be back before the children go to bed.
"You've enjoyed having visitors haven't you?"
Kelly is now cuddling her baby boy;  “You’ve enjoyed having visitors today, haven’t you?   And you’ve been spoiled – and you’ve had cwtches.”
"What are we going to do?"
She begins to cry as she continues, “I’m sorry Dadi isn’t here to give you a cuddle as well – what are we going to do?”
