Mark finds the note for Debbie . . .
Mark is about to clear up the champagne bottle and glasses when he sees the note left by Ricky;
. . . and reads it
he puts on his glasses and reads it, looking rather shocked.   Kath comes in, remarking that Eileen has a lot on her plate with that Sioned;
"Are you listening to me?"
“And Jim does not help her at all.   Are you listening to me?”
She sees that he is reading something and asks what it is;  she snatches it from him,
"It's a note Ricky left for Debbie"
and he retrieves it.   “It’s a note Ricky left for Debbie,” he tells her.
Kath takes something for dinner from the fridge, and puts it in the oven,
"Are you going to tell me – or do I have to guess?"
while asking, “Are you going to tell me what it says – or do I have to guess?”
"He never wants to see her again"
Mark informs her that Ricky says he is never going to forgive his mother, and he does not want to see her again.
"Debbie shouldn't see this!"
Kath regards that as a good thing;  “You can’t blame him, can you?” but Mark is quite adamant that Debbie should not see the note, as he predicts that Ricky will regret his words in time.
"It's exactly what she deserves!"
Kath points out, “It’s exactly what she deserves!”
"This isn't going to help anyone"
“Yes, but she’s his mother – she’d being terribly hurt – this isn’t going to help anyone!” Mark decides,
We all know what happens to things that go in the bin
and deposits the note in the pedal bin.
"I'm going to have a shower"
He is going to have a quick shower, but his mother encourages him to take his time, and have a leisurely bath, as dinner will be quite a while yet.
Yes – they get taken out again
As expected, soon as he has gone upstairs, she retrieves the note,
Kath heads out of the back door
picks up her coat and quietly leaves the house.
She's going to kill Sioned!"
Eileen is still in a state of agitation at Penrhewl, and when Eifion comes in, she exclaims, “They’ve taken her they’ve taken Sioned!   Jessie – she’s got a gun, and she’s going to kill Sioned!   And there’s nothing I can do about it!”
"What did the police say?"
Eifion attempts to calm her, wondering what the police said, but she revealed she has not told them;
"There's a policeman standing right outside!"
he protests that there is a policeman standing right outside.   “Jessie said that she would kill Sioned if I told the police – and me, and Huwi!” shouts Eileen, but he insists that she has to tell the police.
"Make sure you tell the police immediately!"
He grabs his car keys to go and look for her, as he knows all the back roads round the area, and they have to do something.   He orders Eileen that she must tell the police immediately.
Cassie is on the late shift at the Deri
At number 9, Cassie is preparing for her late shift in the Deri, when Debbie comes in;
"I was going to cook tonight"
she had intended to cook the dinner tonight, but Cassie expects that she will just have a packet of crisps in the Deri, if she is lucky.   Gwyneth has gone to fetch Gwern from football.
"I'm really sorry for everything, honestly"
Debbie, left alone for a while, phones Ricky’s number and leaves a message;  “I’m really sorry for everything, honestly.   Can we just meet, please, for a coffee or something?
"I want to see you and sort things out"
“I want to see you and sort things out.   Phone me.”
"What do they say about the horse bolting?"
There is a knock at the door, and Kath marches in;  Debbie says that she is very sorry about everything, but her mother-in-law’s response is, “What do they say about the horse bolting?”   Debbie emphasises that she is going to turn things around.
"I can't imagine how disappointed Ricky is!"
“I just can’t imagine how disappointed Ricky is!” Kath continues, and Debbie says that she has just tried to arrange to meet him;  she is confident that he will agree, as he has a big heart, like his father.
Kath demolishes Debbie's hopes
Kath does not share this opinion;  “If you think he will phone you back – you’ll be waiting for a very long time.   You think you know him better than me?
"Well, that's where you're wrong!"
“Well, that’s where you’re wrong – did you know he’s decided to do the course?   He’s already left – he came to see us before heading for the train.
She is handed Rick's note
“He wanted you to have this.”   She hands over the note.
DI Davies is back at Penrhewl
DI Davies and her constable enter Penrhewl,
"You have to find them – Jessie's got a gun!"
and Eileen pleads, “You have to find her – Jessie’s got a gun – and now Eifion’s gone to look for them!”   She is urged to take a deep breath and calm down;
"More officers have been put on the case"
the DI knows that this is difficult, but now she has been told exactly what has happened, more officers have been put on the case.
“Now every second counts, especially in cases like this,” says the DI,
"You did the right thing, not listening to Sioned"
“And you did the right thing by not listening to Sioned about calling the police.”
"I hope nothing happens because of me"
Eileen sobs, “I hope that nothing happens to her because of me,”
"We will do everything in our power"
but is assured that the police will do everything in their power to make sure nothing happens to her.
"I must talk to Mark about this"
Debbie is somewhat subdued when she has read the note;  she is told that Mark knows about it, and insists she must talk to him.   “Perhaps he can persuade Ricky to contact me,” she says,
"You leave Mark alone – and stay away!"
but Kath warns her to leave Mark alone and stay away, then she walks out of the house.
Gwern has had a successful, if rather dirty, game
Gwyneth and Gwern come back from the football, pleased that he was able to save two goals.
"I'm making pasta for dinner"
Debbie says she was just about to make some dinner;  “Pasta – there’s plenty here.”
"Where have you been, Mam?"
Kath arrives back at Maes-y-Deri just as Mark is coming downstairs;  he asks where she has been,
She comes up with some tale about ketchup
and she concocts some tale about going to borrow some ketchup from next door, as it has run out.   He wonders where it is, so she maintains that next door had run out as well.
He is sure that he bought a bottle last week,
"Stop asking questions,and let's get on with dinner"
and his mother tells him to stop asking questions, or they will not have any dinner.
Eileen is still desperately worried
Eileen is extremely worried, and has a police officer standing in the room.
"Armed officers and a helicopter"
DI Davies reports that several units are searching the area;  “Including armed officers and a helicopter.”
Eifion remarks that it is pitch black out there;  they could be hiding in the top field and he would not know.
"Good job you didn't find them, then"
“It’s a good job you didn’t find them, then,” the DI informs him, “Your life would have been in danger as well as Sioned’s!” but he argues that he cannot sit here doing nothing.   He is told, “Please let us do our job.”
"We all know how this is going to end!"
Eileen protests that it has been hours and the police are no closer to finding them;  “We know how all this is going to end – Jessie made that crystal clear!
"There's no point kidding ourselves, Eifion"
“There’s no point kidding ourselves, Eifion!”
In the morning light, the Toyota is parked in the woods . . .
It is now daylight, and in a wood, the Toyota is parked,
. . . with Sioned, tethered, but asleep
and we find that Sioned’s hands have been tied to the steering wheel;  she has fallen asleep,
She puts all her effort into trying to escape
but when she awakens she tries to free herself, with no success.
"It will all be over soon!"
Jessie returns to the car and tells her she is wasting her time;  “You won’t have to suffer being tied up much longer anyway.   It will all be over soon!”
Sioned regards this as an ominous prediction
Sioned does not find this reassuring.
"They're bound to find her soon"
Eifion puts on the kettle, and tells Eileen, “The police have been searching all night – they’re bound to find her soon.”
But still DI Davies has no news
DI Davies comes into the room, advising that there is no news, but assures them the police are doing everything they can.
"I don't want to organise another funeral!"
“I don’t want to organise another funeral – I can’t!” Eileen wails,
The DI receives a call
but then the DI’s phone rings.
"Send the co-ordinates to the helicopter"
“Right, let the appropriate units know, and send the co-ordinates to the helicopter,” she says,
It appears the car has been spotted
then informs Eileen, “We’ve got a lead – someone has seen a car being driven dangerously, and the description matches your car.”
"See – I told you it was too early to give up!"
Eifion reminds her that he said it is too early to give up.
Jessie tries again to get in touch with her elusive contact
Out in the wood, Jessie is again trying to contact someone by phone,
Sioned's bonds are severed . . .
then cuts the rope binding Sioned’s wrists, and orders her out of the car.
. . . and she is ordered to kneel . . .
 “On your knees!” Jessie snarls,
. . . with the gun trained at her head
and as she points the gun at Sioned’s head, her phone sounds.
"I thought you were never going to phone!"
“I thought you were never going to phone!” Jessie rages, “What do you mean?”
A Range Rover appears nearby
At that moment a black Range Rover, CK68JXH, arrives nearby;
"Who tipped them off?"
Jessie complains, “Who tipped them off?   Yes, and what about . . ?”
Sioned prepares to meet her doom – but . . .
Sioned suspects that the time has come, and steels herself for the execution-style killing.   However, for some reason, Jessie lowers the gun, and remarks, “You’re lucky,”
. . . Jessie runs away to the car
then hurries to the waiting Range Rover, which drives away.
Sioned is left in a state of extreme shock
Sioned is left kneeling on the ground and sobbing piteously.
"Can we please talk?"
Debbie makes another attempt to contact Ricky;  “Hello, love – it’s me – I got your letter.   Can we please talk?
"Dom't leave things like this, I'm begging you!"
“Don’t leave things like this, I’m begging you – especially now you’re away at college.
"Get in touch – OK?"
“Get in touch – OK?”
Gwyneth has been listening . . .
Gwyneth is listening to this,
. . . and offers consolation to Debbie
and tries to console Debbie;
"It's cold out there today!"
Cassie comes in, commenting that it is cold outside.
"I'm sure things aren't as bad as you think"
“I’m sure things aren’t quite as bad as you think,” says Gwyneth,
"Oh yes they are!   Look at this"
but Debbie shows her the note from Ricky.   “He’s just upset – he doesn’t mean it,” Gwyneth maintains, but Debbie knows that he does, every word.
"Well, go and see him – or Mark"
“If he won’t answer your phone calls, go to see him – or Mark,” Gwyneth suggests,
"I'm not welcome at Maes-y-Deri!"
but Debbie knows full well that she is not welcome at Maes-y-Deri, as Kath made quite clear.   “And you’re going to give up – just like that?” Gwyneth demands.
Cassie is eavesdropping
Cassie has been listening to parts of this conversation from the kitchen as Gwyneth continues, “You’ve looked after that boy for years, and that’s the thanks you get – you deserve better!”
"Don't tell anyone, right?"
Debbie realises that she is right, but urges her not to tell anyone, as she does not want people to know things are bad between her and Ricky.   She goes out of the house.
"The divorce, is it?"
Cassie is jumping to conclusions;  “The divorce, is it?   Poor thing – it has got messy quickly, hasn’t it?   Is it something to do with that letter?   Has she found out something about Mark?”
"Mark is having an affair"
Gwyneth says that Mark is having an affair,
"What?   Mark?"
which Cassie finds quite surprising, but is sworn to secrecy (as is usual in Cwmderi);
"Not a word to anyone, mind!"
“Not a word to anyone, understand?”
Sioned has recovered her composure and is searching for help
Sioned is hurrying through the woodland, and pauses for a moment, wondering which way to go;
As she stops by a tree . . .
soon, as she is leaning on a tree,
. . . she sees a reassuring sight
there is the welcome sight of a police car.
A policewoman hurries to her . . .
The female officer dashes out to get Sioned, and the driver reports by radio that she has been found;
. . . and offers Sioned support
Sioned is extremely relieved.
"That was lovely, Mam"
Mark and his mother have enjoyed their meal, and she says he deserves to be spoiled sometimes.   He insists on clearing the table;  “My marriage might be over,
"I'm not completely useless!"
“but I’m not completely useless,” he stresses.   Kath is confident that he is better off without Debbie.
Debbie receives a frosty welcome
Then they hear the front door opening;  Debbie asks, “What do you know about this?” handing him the note.
"Watch her, Mark!"
Kath warns him to watch her, but he tells his mother to keep her nose out.   “I wouldn’t have come here if I didn’t have to,” Debbie continues,
"I didn't know Mam had given it to you"
and he confesses that he has read the note, but did not know that his mother had given it to her.
"You should never have seen it!"
He maintains she should never have seen it, and she regards this as a positive step,
"Do you want to talk, Mark?"
wondering if he wants to talk.
"This is not coming between Ricky and me!"
“No, you have to sort this out yourself – I’m not going to let this come between Ricky and me,” he replies, “Not when he’s just started college.   I think you’d better go,” and she does so, without another word.
"Ricky wanted her to see that note!"
Mark turns on his mother, but she points out that Ricky wanted his mother to see the note;  she goes on, “He’s 19 years of age, and he’s more sensible than us all!
"You need to forget about her!"
“I’ve done you a big favour – Debbie needs to understand that everything’s over – and you need to forget about her!”
"I'm the one who decides that, Mam!"
He agrees that may be the case;  “But I’ll decide that!” he roars
"Don't tell me you're still in love with her?"
“Don’t tell me you’re still in love with her – please?” Kath groans, and he will pretend that he did not hear that.
"You're going after her, aren't you?"
As he walks out of the room, she shouts, “You’re going after her, aren’t you?”
"What are you going to do about it?"
“And what if I am?   What are you going to do about it?” he demands, “It’s my marriage, Mam, and I’ll deal with things in my own way!   So don’t you dare go behind my back again!   I don’t need your help or anyone else’s!”
"I can't stay around here, doing nothing!"
Eileen is tired of sitting around, doing nothing, and wants Eifion to come out and look for Sioned with her;  “I can’t stay here doing nothing!   What are the police doing, then?
"They don't want to admit they're useless!"
“They don’t want to admit they’re useless!   Are you coming?”
DI Davies again – with better news this time
As she prepares to leave, she meets DI Davies in the doorway, and she has some good news;
Sioned rushes to her mother
Sioned rushes in and embraces her mother, who thought she would never see her daughter again;
"I thought I'd never see you again"
they are both crying with joy.
