"Fish and chips tonight, as a treat!"
Garry has Gwern’s PE kit, and is ready to take him to school;  “We’ll have fish and chips for dinner tonight as a treat,” he says.
Gwern runs to his mother
Gwern is very pleased to see his mother come in, and she hugs him;  she says she has the morning off, so can take him to school.
"You'd better hurry, then!"
“You’d better hurry, then!” Garry tells her.
"Dad said you're going away"
“When are you going away?” Gwern asks his mother, “Dad said you’re going away.”
"It's only right that he knows, Gwyn"
Garry points out that it is only right that he knows,
"We'll have a chat about it on the way"
and Gwyneth proposes having a chat with him on the way.
"I'm giving you a lift – you don't want to be late"
However, Garry insists that he will give them a lift, as he does not want Gwern to be late for registration;
Not what Gwyneth had intended
this does not go down well with Gwyneth.
Iolo is deep in thought
Iolo, wearing his rubber gloves, is doing the washing-up, and thinking about the situation;
"I know you don't want to discuss it, but . . ."
when Tyler comes in, he knows that Iolo does not want to discuss it,
"The perfect job has come up – in Buenos Aires"
but blurts out, “The perfect job has come up – in Buenos Aires.   This is the job for me, Iol, I know it!   And there isn’t much time, because the interview is in a fortnight – I know it’s short notice – but I could have the qualification by next week.”
"The closing date's tomorrow!"
Iolo explodes, “Are you mad?” but Tyler continues, undeterred, that the closing date is tomorrow so they have to make a decision.
"You can't put that pressure on me!"
“You can’t put that pressure on me – it’s such a big decision!” protests Iolo,
"We have to be brave enough to make the decision"
but is told that they have to be brave enough to make it.
“Just give me today to think about it,” Iolo demands.
"Is Anita all right after last night?"
In the café Eifion asks Siôn if Anita is all right after last night;  “She was disappointed, to be honest,” he replies, “After Hywel snatched Lisa’s support from under her nose.”
"It was revenge for those nasty pamphlets"
Eifion points out that it was revenge for those nasty pamphlets, which apparently Siôn did not know about.
Sioned comes in, walking very unsteadily, and almost falls over at one point,
"Leave me alone, Eifion!"
but refuses any assistance from Eifion.
"Can I offer you some coffee, Sioned?"
Siôn wonders if he can offer her some coffee, or something to eat, but she also declines that.
"No, thanks – I'm all right"
As she searches in her bag,
Then she sees the face of Jamie on the counter . . .
she sees a leaflet on the counter, bearing Jamie’s picture, and is rather unsettled;
. . . and up on the wall, so has to escape
there is another one on the wall, and she decides that she has to go.
Eifion thinks she is unlikely to make it on her own
Eifion thinks he had better escort her back to the flat.
"Can I come over with Greta?"
Siôn is about to leave when Iolo comes in, and asks if he is going home;  “I’m just going to pick Greta up from Elinor’s – can we come over then?”
"I'll do it some time today"
At number 9, Gwyneth is on the phone to Garry and informs him, “I’ll do it some time today –
"Patience, Garry!"
“you can shout as much as you want – patience, Garry!   I’ll let you know when I have.”
She is delighted with what she has accomplished
Then she picks up a bundle of money and smiles conspiratorially.
Greta is in a very vociferous mood
At Y Felin, as Greta plays happily on the floor, Siôn points out, “Two weeks doesn’t give you much time to plan!”   Iolo remarks that he told Tyler the very same thing, but he does not want to listen.
"Buenos Aires?"
His father goes on, “Buenos Aires?   Your mother and I did consider moving to Brittany for a while – when you and Macs were small, but when we found out Huw was on the way, we decided it was too much.”
"A good job came up at Rennes University"
Iolo asks why he wanted to move, and is told, “A good job came up for me as a lecturer at Rennes University – and I was interested in learning Breton – I thought it would be a valuable experience for you.   But the opportunity passed and we never went.”
"Do you regret it?"
“Do you regret it?” is Iolo’s next question, and his father says that iife went down a different path, but he sometimes imagines what it would have been like for his sons.
"Now would be the time, with Greta so young . . ."
“If you do decide to go, now would be the time, with Greta so young -
". . . children adapt so quickly"
“children adapt so easily,” Siôn advises.
Iolo thinks that may be why Tyler is in such a hurry;
"He's organised it all behind my back!"
“But I can’t stop thinking that he has organised it all behind my back!”
"Make sure it is something you both want"
His father warns him to make sure it is something that they both want to do.
Eifion has administered tea and toast
Up in the shop flat, Eifion has persuaded Sioned to have a cup of tea and some toast, and she does feel better now.   “Tea and toast for a headache,” he says, and she admits that she feels so ashamed.
"You've been through a difficult time"
He reassures her, “You’ve been through a difficult time – but remember that you have friends.   You can talk to me if you want,”
"A shower and a day under the duvet"
but she says all she needs now is a shower and a day under the duvet.
She is about to clear the table . . .
As she puts away the milk and jam in the fridge,
. . . and notices a bottle . . .
she notices a part-bottle of, presumably, vodka,
. . . which she sets about drinking
and begins to drink it.
"You have no right to turn up whenever you want!"
Garry is working in the Deri flat when Gwyneth appears again;  he snarls at her, “Stop doing this!   You have no right to turn up whenever you want!”   She maintains that he had no right to tell Gwern she was going away.
"I was just planting the seed"
“I planted the seed, so it doesn’t come as too much of a shock,” he explains.
"His mother disappears without an explanation?"
“What?   When his mother disappears overnight without an explanation?” growls Gwyneth, but Garry does not want her to discuss it with him;  he maintains that he will talk to Gwern when the time is right.
"Well, the money is in the bank"
“I’ve just come to tell you that the money’s in the bank,” she goes on, and he is pleased to hear it.
"Get on with the packing, then!"
He tells her that she should go and get packed, as they agreed 24 hours, and advises her to get on with it.   She turns and leaves the flat.
"Buenos Aires sounds perfect for us!"
At number 7, as soon as Iolo walks in through the door, Tyler exclaims, “I’ve been reading about Buenos Aires – it sounds perfect for us!   A large liberal capital that’s gay-friendly –
"They'll always need plumbers"
“they’ll always need plumbers, and we can learn the tango.”
"I've left Greta with Dad"
Iolo is distinctly underwhelmed by this, and informs Tyler that Greta is with his father;
"She did this at Elinor's house – Goodbye Grandad!"
“It will give us a chance to talk.   She did this at Elinor’s house,” he says, holding up a picture, “She asked Elinor to write, ‘Goodbye Grandad’.   You’ve been talking to her about moving away, haven’t you?”
Tyler casually admits that he might have said something last night,
"It's crazy to drag a three-year-old girl away from her home!"
and Iolo rages, “It’s crazy to drag a three year old girl from her home, her family, her friends and everyone who loves her – for no reason!”
“But there is a reason,” is Tyler’s reply, “There’s a job out there for me, an opportunity – and I want to take it!”
"You're running away from something, Ty!"
but Iolo knows that he is running away from something.
"Yes, the narrow-minded people of Cwmderi"
“Yes, bad weather and the narrowminded people of Cwmderi,” says Tyler.
Iolo knows there is more to it than that;  he can see it in Tyler’s eyes.   “You’re afraid of something or someone, and you want to run away!   I know you, Tyler, and I’m telling you now, whatever you’re running away from will follow you on that plane all the way to Buenos Aires!
"You're going to tell me exactly what it is!"
“Now, you’re going to tell me exactly what it is – because I won’t drag our family across the world for no reason!”
Sioned is chatting up another man . . .
Sioned is chatting up a young man at the bar of the Deri;  “You don’t look like a rugby player to me,” she begins,
. . . and feeling his muscles
but after feeling his muscles, changes her mind;  “You’re really fit, aren’t you?”
Izzy walks in and introduces herself to Howard, who she arranged to meet yesterday.   Sioned’s comment is, “There aren’t many decent men in Cwmderi.”
"Us Tremyrddin boys are harder!"
Howard assures her, “Us Tremyrddin boys are harder than the Cwmderi boys!”
Izzy wants them to get away from Sioned as soon as possible
Izzy takes him over to a table, and Sioned asks Garry for another one – a large one.
Howard has been doing his research
Izzy wonders how Howard knew she liked gin and tonic, and he explains that it was on her profile, and he describes her as an interesting subject.   He says that the camera does not always tell the truth, but she is even prettier in the flesh.
"I haven't done this before"
She admits, “I haven’t done this before,” but he assures her that she is in good hands.
She wants to hear something interesting about him now,
"I can debone a turkey in less than six minutes!"
and he answers, “I can debone a turkey in under six minutes – but I take my time with the stuffing!
"I'm a butcher, you see"
“I’m a butcher, you see.”
Iolo is still demanding the truth . . .
At number 7, Iolo demands, “Are are you going to tell me?”
. . . and Tyler shows him, on his phone
so Tyler hands over his phone, where Iolo can see the comments which had been made about him.
“That’s the reason I want to leave – and there’s more,” Tyler says, and Iolo describes them as terrible.
"It's been going on for weeks!"
He continues, “They’re being shared around the school – and it’s been going on for weeks.
"Every time I leave the house, I'm paranoid!'
“Every time I leave the house, I am paranoid that someone is filming me to make another of those ‘memes’.
"This is what you're trying to escape from?"
“This is what you’re trying to escape from?” Iolo demands, but is told that there is also hatred, and homophobia.   He maintains that people are doing it to him for no reason;
"I was too ashamed to tell you"
he has tried to be strong and carry on, and was too ashamed to tell Iolo.   He suspects that perhaps he has started to hate himself.
Iolo insists that he cannot leave because of this stupid prank, but Tyler stresses that it is more than a prank;  “Thinking about going back to school makes me ill!”
"You can't give up and leave school"
Iolo is adamant that he cannot give up and leave the school,
"I'm never going back to that school!"
but he is determined he is never going back to that school.
"We need to find out who made these"
“We need to find out who made these, and punish them,” Iolo tells him, but Tyler will not do that, and does not want him to tell anyone.
"I don't want to draw more attention to myself!"
“I don’t want the story to go round and draw more attention to myself,” he pleads, and Iolo agrees,
"We're not running away to Buenos Aires or anywhere else!"
but points out they are not running away to Buenos Aires, or anywhere else;  they are going to sort this out together.
"I just want this to stop, Iol!"
“I can’t – I’m not happy here, Iol,” he whines, “I just want this to stop – and the only way to do that is to start over in a place where you, me and Greta can be happy again.”
Sioned continues her drinking binge
Sioned is still drinking at the bar, and when she asks Garry for another one,
"You've had enough, Sioned"
he replies, “You’ve had enough.”
"What happened to the 'day under the duvet'?"
Eifion is surprised to see her there, and wonders what happened to the ‘day under the duvet’.   She complains that she got bored, and he says he would have come over to keep her company – stressing that he does not mean ‘under the duvet’, but just as a friend.   She grumbles that she does not want a friend, and walks out of the Deri,
Sioned takes one of the leaflets with her
on the way noticing yet another leaflet, featuring Jamie Fenchurch’s photo.   She tears it down and takes it with her.
"Do you know who he is?"
Eifion hears Izzy’s voice and goes over to find her with Howard;  “What are you doing with him?” he demands, “Do you know who he is?”
"And what's it got to do with you?"
Howard wonders why he is so interested in what Izzy does,
"She's my girlfriend!"
and Eifion angrily replies that she is his girlfriend.
"You're not serious – he's a poof!"
“You’re not serious?” laughs Howard, “He’s a poof!   He used to try it on with the boys at the market.   I’m leaving –
"I don't want to be near you, if you've been with him!"
“I don’t want to be near you, if you’ve been with him – time-waster!” and he walks out.
"Was that a date?"
Eifion demands whether that was a date, and she replies, “Yes – you’re all right with that, aren’t you?” and he realises this is revenge for the other night.   “Why would I want revenge?” she asks,
"If we're in an open relationship . . ."
“If we’re in an open relationship, we can see whoever we like, can’t we?” and she, too, leaves the Deri.
Sioned has staggered back home . . .
Sioned arrives back in the shop flat,
. . . and makes a phone call to the police
takes the leaflet and her phone from her bag, and makes a phone call;
"I've got some information about . . ."
she says in English, “I’ve got some information about . . .” but when she is asked her name, she terminates the call,
She is in a terrible state . . .
and looks very troubled.
. . . and screws up the leaflet
Then she screws up the leaflet and throws it down.
Izzy sits with a glass of wine
Izzy is drinking a glass of wine at home when Eifion arrives;
"What was that all about?"
“Are you going to tell me what that was all about?” he asks,
"I have to justify myself to you?"
and she is surprised that he wants her to justify herself.   “I know you organised the date to prove a point – fair enough,” he adds.
She maintains that she was having a great time until he turned up,
"Anything could have happened!"
but he protests, “Do you know what he’s like?   Anything could have happened!   This isn’t right!”
"Hypocritical, selfish, chauvinistic pig!"
Izzy turns on him, snarling, “You’re nothing but a hypocritical, selfish, chauvinistic pig!   You can do what you like!”
but he informs her that is not true, and it is far more complicated – he insists he is not being unfaithful.
"That's how it feels to me!"
“Well, that’s how it feels to me!” she informs him;
"I love everything about you!"
he assures her that he adores her, and loves everything about her – her personality, the way she thinks, the way she looks,
"I love you, too"
and she admits that she feels the same about him.
"I just wanted to be with you"
“The truth is, nothing happened the other night,” he says, “I didn’t want to be with anyone else – I thought I could, but I just wanted to be with you.”
They kiss . . .
He swears that he is telling the truth, and they kiss.
. . . but she still wants him to leave
Then she asks him to go, as she is so confused, and he does so with no argument.
"I've finished packing"
After closing time in the Deri, Garry is clearing up when Gwyneth comes in once again;  she announces that she has finished packing,
"We've both got what we wanted"
and he is very glad to hear it.   She suggests, “We might as well have a drink to celebrate,” and as they have both got what they wanted, he agrees.
"You've had  afew days of living in a fantasy"
She goes on, “I’ve had £30,000 of your savings, and you’ve had – well, a few days of living in a fantasy that I’m going to disappear, and leave you alone for ever!
"Fantasy?"
“I’m not going anywhere – I like the idea of keeping the money, and staying in Cwmderi!”
Garry protests that they had an agreement – that she would leave;  “That’s why I paid you!”
"Did you really think I could be bribed to leave my son?"
Gwyneth demands if he really thought she could be bribed to leave her son;  he continues to insist, “You have to leave – that was the deal!”
She emphasises, “The deal is that your money’s in my account, I’m staying, and there’s nothing you can do about it!”
"Don't be silly, Garry!"
As he grabs her coat, she warns him not to be silly;  “Remember who’s upstairs – Dani, Gwern and Seren are sleeping – one scream from me, and they’ll be down like a shot!
She taunts him
“What are you going to do?”
"You need to be more careful with your money!"
He releases his grip, and she walks towards the door, remarking, “You need to be more careful with your money.”
He looks around for something to throw . . .
As soon as she has gone, Garry, who is incandescent with rage, picks up a bottle from the bar and flings it across the room;
. . . after a bottle and a glass, he does not feel any better
it is followed by a glass, and he debates what to do next.
