An official letter for Eileen
Eileen has received an official letter for which she had to sign;
She looks concerned . . .
she looks worried about it,
. . . but leaves it unopened
but puts it down on top of a box of Cae Glas produce.
Kelly is about to contact a funeral director . . .
Kelly is looking on the laptop at the website of Phillips and Brown, funeral directors;  she picks up her phone and,
. . . but then takes a deep breath . . .
taking a deep breath, prepares to dial their number.
. . . and texts Sioned instead
Then she hesitates and instead sends a brief text to Sioned;  “Come over.”
"Can you do anything with this pump?"
Iolo comes to number 10 with the boiler pump from the salon flat, and Gerwyn wonders if he got it from St Fagan’s museum.   Iolo cannot find the part anywhere and asks Gerwyn to have a look at it;
"I'll have a go"
he agrees to take it apart and see what he can do.   Iolo says, “My orders from Erin Medi, the landlady, are to patch it up.”
"I can supply a new boiler, half-price"
Dylan says that he can supply a new boiler;  “I had a special deal on some for a street in Swansea – one’s left over – half price?”
Iolo jumps at the chance
Iolo welcomes the offer as it would save him the bother,
Dylan bets Gerwyn he cannot fix the pump
and Dylan makes a bet with Gerwyn that he cannot fix the pump anyway.
Sioned receives Kelly's text
Sioned receives the text from Kelly, just as Eileen is speaking to Jim on the phone.
Jim is still working away at Cwmtydu
“I thought you would like to be with me when we open it – yes, we’re coping fine.   Ring again when you get a chance – we’re not going anywhere tonight.”
"He'll be away for another week"
She disparagingly tells Sioned, “He’ll be away for another week – the customer’s found some more jobs, and Jim can’t say no.”
"He's just running away, Mam"
Sioned is convinced that he is simply running away.   Her mother goes on, “He’s probably hoping that the funeral arrangements will have been done before he comes home.”
"I'll do it, Mam"
Sioned realises that her mother has not started any arrangements, and says that she will do it;  “We’ll have a service in the chapel, and a procession behind the hearse to the cemetery,”
"If we don't organise a proper funeral, who will?"
but Eileen is not sure about that.   “Mam, we’ve lost a daughter and a sister – if we don’t organise a proper funeral, who will?”
She wonders why her mother keeps glancing furtively at the letter,
"It's Angela's will"
and is told that it is Angela’s will;  “The solicitor phoned to say he’d sent it.”   Sioned is adamant that it should not be lying there, and urges Eileen to open it;  she cannot do so, so Sioned will.
"She's left everything to you – £18,000!"
“She’s left everything to you,” she tells her mother, “£18,000!”
Eileen is lost for words
Eileen is speechless.
"Does he think I was born yesterday?"
In the café, Cassie remarks to Gwyneth, “The cheeky toad!   Does he think I was born yesterday?   The owner of the hotel in Blackpool where I worked – he says I left the annexe in such a state, he wants me to pay for it to be redecorated!”   Gwyneth replies that he is taking advantage,
"He can go whistle!"
and Cassie growls, “He can go whistle on top of the tower!”
"Iolo still hasn't sorted out the boiler"
Gwyneth reveals that Cassie will have to stay with them for a couple more days, as Iolo still has not sorted out the boiler.   “Men!   You can’t depend on them at all!” Cassie snarls.
"Tes, I'm waiting for you"
Guto leaves a message for his sister, “Tes, where are you?   I’ve been in the café for ages.”
"I'm supposed to be meeting your sister"
Luned comes in, and says that she is supposed to be meeting Tesni there.
As he has also been summoned to be there, he is suspicious,
There is a new employee in the café
and predicts that Tesni is not going to turn up.
"Do you want anything?"
Luned orders a milkshake, and asks if he wants anything.
Studying the will, Eileen notices that Angela wrote it three months ago;  “As if she was expecting the end – Kelly said that Ed had tried to kill her more than once.”
"She must have been in a terrible state"
Sioned is feeling sympathy for Angela;  “Poor thing – she must have been in a terrible state.”   Eileen wonders why all the money was left to her, and Sioned suggests, “A final attempt to say sorry.”
"It was intended to make me feel guilty!"
Her mother would prefer to think of it as intended to make her feel guilty;  “That’s why she came here in the first place – not to look for a mother’s love!”
"You did have some good times together"
Sioned argues that they did have some good times together, too, and points out that the will is thanking her;  she should not think the contrary.
Kelly sounds as if she is getting impatient
As Eileen puts away the will, Sioned’s phone sounds, with a terse message from Kelly, “Are you coming or what?”
"I have to pop to the village"
She says that she needs to pop to the village, and they will talk about it after she comes home,
"You have a nap while Huwi is asleep"
suggesting that her mother tries to have a nap while Huwi is sleeping.
"I didn't see you in school today"
In the café, where someone else is behind the counter today, Guto remarks that he did not see Luned in school today, and she is very pleased that he noticed.   She went in at lunchtime, and he was in the IT room all afternoon.
"Have you been out with the metal detector?"
“Have you been out with the metal detector?” she asks, and he replies that no one has asked him to find any lost rings.
"I'd love to come with you"
“I’d love to come with you if you go out some time,” she says, “Perhaps we’ll find loads of old jewellery.”   He hesitantly proposes that they could go out now, if she wants, and she seems very eager.
Tesni comes to see if her ploy is working
Just then Mathew and Tesni come in, so Luned whispers to Guto that it is payback time,
"You're pathetic!"
and starts yelling at him, “It’s pathetic, having your sister do everything for you!”
"No, you're the one who's pathetic!"
After a little confusion, he gets the message and shouts back, “You’re the one who’s pathetic!” as Luned gets up to leave the café.   Mathew knew that it was a bad idea to come and see how things were progressing.   “I was stupid to think that you were cool!” continues Luned.
Tesni is well and truly taken in by this performance
As Tesni apologises to them for setting this up, they both laugh at her, and Guto comments, “One all!”
Gerwyn tinkers on the kitchen table
On the kitchen table at number 10, Gerwyn is slaving over the ancient boiler pump, and Jaclyn cannot see why he is bothering, as Dylan has sold Iolo a boiler.
"I'm not going to lose this bet, Jac"
Gerwyn is determined not to lose the bet, but thinks he will have to take it to the garage.
“Don’t be long, because we’re going out tonight, she informs him, “To give Dyl a chance to get to know the locals.”   Gerwyn grumbles that when he suggested on Saturday that they go out, she wanted to cook at home.
"I'm going out with the metal detector"
Guto has just come home, and is told not to make any plans for tonight, as they are going to the Deri.   He replies that he has organised to go out with the metal detector, but his mother says that Uncle Dyl would like them all to go out together.
"Mind your own business!"
When asked with whom he is going out metal detecting, he answers, “Mind your own business!”
Luned understands he does not want his parents to know
Outside the house, Luned is waiting, and he apologises for not inviting her in;  she appreciates that he does not want his parents to think he is going on a date,
"Oh – it's a date, is it?"
and he realises that this has been her plan.
"Mefi wen!   I need a new boiler!"
Outside number 9, Cassie is becoming increasingly angry;  “Nefi wen!” she exclaims, “I would have fixed it myself if I had the tools!   Is that your excuse – I need a new boiler?”
"Tell these two you've promised to sell me a boiler"
Iolo calls upon Dylan, who happens to be passing, “Tell these two that you’ve promised to sell me a new boiler on the cheap.”   Dylan confirms this, and stresses that it has not come off the back of a lorry;  he introduces himself as Jaclyn Parry’s brother.
"You sell boilers, do you?"
Cassie enquiries whether he sells boilers, and he replies that he rents out houses, among other things;  “You can’t get anything without trying!” he emphasises.
When he goes, Cassie hopes that he is in the Deri tonight, but is told by Gwyneth that he is much too young for her.
"You're never too old to have a toy boy!"
“You’re never too old to have a toy boy!” Cassie points out.
"So you got my message, then?"
Sioned arrives at Y Felin;  “So you got my message, then?” says Kelly, and Sioned apologises for not coming to see her before now.   “No worries – I’ve got friends and family,” Kelly continues,
"I want to avoid a clash with Angela's funeral"
“I have to organise Ed’s funeral, but I want to avoid a clash with Angela’s.”
Sioned is horrified that she is considering a public one, but Kelly wants to explore every option before going to the funeral director.
"We haven't made any arrangements yet"
Sioned advises that they have not made any arrangements yet, and are willing to work around what Kelly decides.
"Next week then, I suppose"
“Next week then, I suppose,” says Kelly,
"I would have left him to rot!"
but Sioned callously snarls that she would have left him to rot, as he was a terrible person – and Angela paid with her life.
"And Ed paid with his life!"
“And Ed – don’t forget that!” Kelly reminds her, but Sioned considers that he has got away with it – he should have been punished, so Angela had some justice.
"We all know you punished him!"
“We all know you punished him – and that didn’t help him, did it?” Kelly goes on.
"No more than you did!"
“No more than you did!” Sioned shouts, “You could have stopped Ed!   You told Mam you knew he’d tried to kill Angela before!”   Kelly is furious that the finger is being pointed at her now, but Sioned insists that she is trying to find some answers.
"You turned him into that monster – nobody else!"
“Look no further than yourself!” screams Kelly, “You turned him into that monster – nobody else!”   Sioned is taken aback by this outburst, and turns to leave the house.
"You're not leaving?"
“You’re not leaving?” says Kelly, “I thought there was more fight in you than that.”
"Do you think I'm proud of the fact I abused Ed?"
Sioned hesitates, then asks, “Do you think I’m proud of the fact I abused Ed?   I will have to live with that for ever –
"He abused me first!"
“but people forget that he abused me first, when he was on the steroids – he was responsible for Dewi’s death!”
"And that justifies what you did?"
“And that justifies what you did, does it?” Kelly demands;  Sioned replies that she has been punished, and is now trying to move on with her life, but people like Kelly will not let her.
"He had to fake his own suicide to escape from you!"
She is reminded, “Ed had to fake his own suicide to escape from you, Sioned!   This is relevant – he was a broken man, after what you did to him.   My baby and I nearly died because of it!”
"But you're still alive, aren't you?"
With tears in her eyes, Sioned points out that she is still alive, but Kelly replies,
"My baby doesn't have a father"
“My baby doesn’t have a father,” and Sioned tearfully adds that she has lost her sister.
“Please,” laughs Kelly, “You didn’t care about Angela – you or your family.   If you had showed her an ounce of love, she wouldn’t have made Ed’s life hell,
"Keep those crocodile tears, right?"
“and he wouldn’t have flipped – so keep those crocodile tears, right?   The truth hurts.”
Sioned wonders what the point is in blame;  “Like you said, nobody’s won – but we need each other now.”
"All I need is a date for the funeral"
Kelly is adamant that all that she needs is a date for the funeral, so asks that she be informed what Sioned is planning.   This time Sioned does leave Y Felin.
Guto comes home from his metal detecting date
When Guto arrives home, his mother tells him to put away the metal detector and go for a shower;
"There – good as new!"
Gerwyn presents Dylan with the repaired boiler pump, describing it as, “Good as new!”
"Going on a first date – with a metal detector!"
Tesni cannot help remarking, “Bit boring, going on the a first date with that!” but he protests he has not been on that date.   His father’s interest has been picqued,
"I'll get you back for that"
and Guto promises to get her back for that.
Sioned is offered a drink
Sioned is in the Deri, drowning her sorrows, when Dylan offers to buy her another one;
Dylan is sorry to hear about her sister
he introduces himself, and says he has sorry to hear about her sister.   “I’m sure Kelly is grateful to you for saving her life,” she says, and he presumes that she knew Ed well, like the rest of the village,
Sioned drinks up and leaves
but she does not want to be reminded, and says she has to go.
"It's not fair that you have all the fun"
Cassie is working behind the bar, and Gwyneth tells her that Elinor is babysitting so that she could come out and enjoy herself with Cassie.   “You’re chatting up all the punters – it’s not fair that you have all the fun,” Gwyneth complains.
Then he offers them a drink
Dylan approaches the bar, and offers them both a drink;  Cassie advises him that she is free tomorrow, and Gwyneth alleges, “It’s the pensioner’s club tomorrow – you don’t want to miss that!”
"You don't look old enough for a bus pass"
Dylan does not think that Cassie looks old enough for a bus pass;  “There must be something in the air in Cwmderi,” he quips.
Eileen is worrying about Sioned
When Sioned returns home, Eileen is sitting on the sofa, and was getting worried about her;
"Nothing's wrong, Mam"
Sioned tries, unsuccessfully, to pretend that nothing is wrong,
"Kelly was horrible!"
but then then admits to her mother that Kelly asked her to go over there.   “I thought she wanted to patch things up – but she was horrible.”
Eileen points out that she should not have gone there, as Kelly is still vulnerable;
"She said I'm the reason Ed's a murderer!"
Sioned  sobs, “She knew exactly what she was doing – she said I’m the reason why Ed’s a murderer – I know a lot of other people think the same.”
"Angela messed with Ed's mind"
Eileen warns her not to think like that;  “I know it’s hard to believe, but it was Angela who was responsible for messing with Ed’s mind – she had no respect for anyone – even her family, who tried to love her!”
"The will proves Angela wasn't all bad"
“You’re just saying that so I don’t feel guilty,” is Sioned’s reply, “The will proves that Angela wasn’t all bad.”   Her mother, on the other hand, argues that it does not prove anything, and she hugs her daughter.
Dylan is very free and easy with his money
At the bar, Jaclyn explains to Dylan that Cassie has just moved back to the area, and he insists on paying for their drinks.   “We had orders to refuse these on the Golden Mile,” Cassie comments,
"I'll check to see if it's fake:
as he hands over a £50 note, and she will check if it is a fake.
Then he pays out for the bet
He tells Gerwyn that he can pay for the next round, and settles up for the bet;  “I don’t want you sulking all night.”
"Organising another date, are you?"
Tesni snatches Guto’s phone from him, suspecting that he is organising another date;  “You should have invited her here, for the family to meet her.”
Guto wonders how Mathew can stand her,
"Yes, she can be embarrassing"
and he appreciates that she can be embarrassing,
"It wouldn't have happened without Tesni"
but Guto confesses that he does have another date, which, to be fair, would not have happened without Tesni.
"She's not totally useless!"
Mathew remarks that she is not totally useless;  “Don’t let her hear you say that, or her head will get even bigger!” Guto groans.
Gwyneth is urgently called home
Gwyneth has a phone call, and says that she will come home now, as Gwern has been sick everywhere;  Cassie thought that he looked pale earlier.
"Can you look after Gwern tomorrow night??"
Gwyneth needs someone to look after him tomorrow night, and knows that Cassie is not working.
"I think she's starting to take advantage!
Iolo comments, “I think she’s starting to take advantage!”
"I destroyed all the photos when she abducted Huwi"
Sioned asks if her mother has a recent photograph of Angela, but is told that they were all deleted after she had abducted Huwi.   Sioned is sure that she must have one somewhere on her phone;
A photo from happier times
“How about this one?   I think we should have a happy one of her on the front page.   That’s how I want everyone to remember her”
"A plain and simple funeral would be best"
Eileen considers that a plain and simple funeral would be best under the circumstances;
"The funeral needs sorting out"
“Crematorium or burial?” Sioned asks, but her mother does not want to get involved.   “The funeral needs sorting out – you have to face things or people will criticise you,” Sioned insists.
"Everybody knows how things were between us"
“Everybody knows how things were between us,” Eileen reminds her, “I’m not going to pretend now we were best friends.”
"Now is our chance to make it up to her"
Sioned maintains that it is a chance to make it up to her.   “Oh – you blame me for turning my back on her?   It sounds like it,” Eileen exclaims.
"I didn't spend time with my sister"
Sioned blames herself for not spending time with her sister;  “Time for what?” her mother demands, “To argue, like we always did – she would love listening to this now –
"We're arguing, even after she's gone!"
that we’re arguing, even after she’s gone!   I’ll organise the funeral in my own time!   In the meantime, I don’t want a penny of her dirty money!”
Eileen discards the will
She throws the will across the room.
