"I'm going to visit your Mam"
At breakfast, Colin tells Aaron that he is going to visit Britt and take her to the hospital café;  “It’s a good sign that the doctors are happy for her to leave the ward.”   Aaron wonders if he could also go there,
"We should take things slowly for now"
but Colin suggests that they should take things slowly for now;  “We don’t know how she’s going to react, do we?   I just don’t want to put too much pressure on her, that’s all.”
"Thanks for being honest, Col"
Aaron is grateful for Colin’s honesty.
Kelly tells Ed that she had a good time with the ladies at the Deri last night,
"I hope you had a good time when you got home"
and he hopes that she also had a good time when she got home.
"What's this surprise, then?"
She wants to know about a surprise he has for her;
"You know I'm not very good with patience"
“You know I’m not good with patience,” she says, but he replies that sometimes you have to be patient to get what you want.
"Everything's perfect!'
He assures her that he has every reason to be happy;  “A lovely wife, and a baby on the way — everything’s perfect!”
Britt is escorted to the café . . .
Colin is pleased to see Britt being led into the hospital café by a nurse, and he says that she will be back in the ward by noon.
. . . and Colin hugs her
He gives Britt a hug, and they sit down.
"Sorry I haven't made much effort"
She apologises that she has not made much effort, but he tells her that she looks beautiful.
“Its just nice to get out of there, you know,” she tells him, “To see some different faces.
"You didn't tell Garry, did you?"
You didn’t tell Garry you were meeting me here today, did you?”
"Not a word – just as you asked"
He confirms that he did not say a word, just as she had asked;  “I only wanted to see you today,” she continues.
Debbie brings Mark a sausage sandwich
Debbie brings Mark a sausage sandwich, and he kisses her, much to the disgust of his mother;
Kath has a late birthday present for her
then Kath hands Debbie a belated birthday present.   It is a lipstick in a particularly bright red,
"I haven't worn one like that for years"
and Debbie remarks that she has not worn one like that for years.
“I’m sure I saw a similar one in the bathroom the other day,” replies Kath, but she is accused of imagining things.   Kath refuses a sausage sandwich,
"This sausage sandwich is lovely!"
but Mark says that it is lovely.
"We've had some good times, haven't we, Col?"
“We’ve had some good times, haven’t we, Col?” Britt recalls, “I don’t just want you to remember me like this.”
"You're full of fun and gorgeous"
He assures her that this does not change who she is – a fantastic mother, and a partner who is full of fun and gorgeous.
Colin tells her that Aaron is very excited as he is going on a trip tomorrow with his friends.
"It hasn't been easy for Aaron"
“Good – it hasn’t been easy for him, you know, thanks to me,” Britt tells him, “I just hope he gets the chance to enjoy himself now – with me out of the way.”
"He's keen to come and see you"
Colin says that Aaron is keen to see her some time, but there is no rush;
"Everything I do will be for you and the kids"
she stresses, “I’m so lucky to have you, Col – I know I’ve made a mess of things, but from now on, everything I do will be for you and the kids.   I want you to remember that, right, whatever happens.   Do you promise?”
"I love you – you do know that, don't you?"
He does so, and urges her not to upset herself, but in tears she says how grateful she is to him;  “I love you – you know that, don’t you?”   He assures her that he does know.
“Do you know what?   I need the toilet now!” she says, and he is doubtful whether she is allowed to go there on her own.
"I can't hold it in until then"
She reminds him that she is not going back to the ward until noon;  “And I can’t hold it in until then!   It’s only over there,” and she walks out of the café.
Ed gets the knife . . .
Ed takes the knife out of the yellow duster
. . . and slips it into his pocket
and puts it into his back pocket;  telling Kelly that he is off to the gym, if she has no objection, he picks up the bag.
He will be back in time to lock up
“And I’ve got a few things to attend to – but I’ll be back in time to lock up for you.”
"You're going to be the best Dad ever!"
She wants him to say goodbye to ‘bwmps’ and insists, “You’re going to be the best Dad ever!”   He confirms that he will make sure of that, and leaves the flat.
Colin becomes concerned
In the hospital café, Colin is still waiting for Britt’s return, and becoming concerned;  he goes towards the ladies’ toilet,
"There's no-one in there"
and a woman emerging from it informs him that there is no-one else in there;
"Britt?"
he pushes open the door and shouts, “Britt!”
Britt is out in the grounds . . .
Meanwhile, somewhere out in the woods, Britt is walking;
. . . approaching a lake . . .
she sees before her a lake and heads towards it,
. . . and she seeme to know what she is doing
seemingly calm and collected.
Garry reacts furiously to the bad news
Later, back at home in the chippy flat, Garry is furious;  “Why didn’t anyone tell me that she could leave the ward?”
"I thought she was getting better, Gar"
but Colin replies that Britt did not want him to know, and only wanted to spend time with Colin.    He was under the impression that she was getting better.
"She said a few strange things"
Colin is in tears as he relates, “She said a few strange things this morning – that she didn’t want me to remember her like this when I thought of her – that everything she does, she does it for me and the kids.   She told me not to forget that, no matter what happened.”
"And you let her go on her own?"
“And you let her go on her own?” rages Garry, “What’s wrong with you?   I put you in charge!”   Then he simmers down and apologises.
Angela appears to be sunbathing
Out in woodland somewhere, we see Angela, lying on a blanket, with music playing;  Ed, carrying his bag, approaches.
"Come on – I haven't got all day!"
“Come on, I haven’t got all day!” he shouts at her, “The money’s all here – a payday loan I’ll have to pay off for years to come!   I hope you’re happy –
"I'm sure you'll want to count it!"
I’m sure you’ll want to count it, like you always do!”
"No, I trust you, Ed"
She tells him that she trusts him, so he drops the bag and demands, “Now you’re going to delete that recording!”
"Oh, where is that recording?"
Surprisingly, she agrees, and makes a show of trying to find it on her phone;  she maintains that she has deleted the recording.
"How am I supposed to believe you?"
“How am I supposed to believe you?” he wonders.
She swears there are no more copies
She argues that she trusts him, so he has to trust her, and promises that there are no more copies – she swears on Courtney’s grave;
Ed is ready to go . . .
he thanks her and turns to go, but she urges him to stay for five minutes, as she wants to explain everything, and will not get another chance.
. . . but she wants him to listen to some music . . .
“Come and lie here with me,” she invites him, showing him the music to which she was listening when he arrived;
. . . and he agrees
she wants him to listen to one song with her, and he does so.
"He'll believe anything I say"
Debbie is on the phone;  “I’m going to tell him now – you know what he’s like – he’ll believe anything I say!”
"Who was that on the phone?"
She ends the call when Kath comes in, and asks who was on the phone.
"How about going somewhere for lunch?"
Mark comes downstairs and suggests they could go somewhere for lunch,
"Helen's invited me to Llanelli"
but Debbie informs him, “Helen texted me this morning – she ran that bar in Spain.   She’s just moved back to Llanelli – she’s asked if I want to go there and stay over tonight.   She’s got a lot of duty-free gin.”
"And just where does she live?"
Kath enquires just where in Llanelli this Helen lives, and is told that it is in the town.   Mark tells her to go and enjoy herself;
"I want you back tomorrow morning"
“But I want you back tomorrow morning, because I’ve booked lunch in the Glyndwr to celebrate your birthday.”   Debbie says she will go and pack;  she insists that she does not want a lift, but will catch the bus.
"I'm going to deal with the party RVSPs"
Mark whispers to his mother that he will deal with the party RSVPs, but Kath looks extremely suspicious.
An unlikely couple, lying in the sunshine
They are still lying there in the sunshine. listening to the music;
"I can't remember the last time I heard that"
when it ends, Ed says he cannot remember the last time he heard it.
"I didn't enjoy seeing you suffer"
“I didn’t enjoy seeing you suffer, you know – I never have,” says Angela, so Ed wonders why she did it.   “I wanted to punish you!” she replies, “Or at least I thought I did – but after what happened in the café, I felt so terrible.
"I knew I'd gone too far"
“I honestly thought I’d killed you – I knew then that I’d gone too far.”
"You've put me in a financial hole – and for what?"
“And yet you’ve still dragged me here today!” growls Ed, “Put me in a financial hole – and for what?”
"Now I know how guilty you felt"
She alleges that she knows now how guilty Ed felt when he pushed her down that mine – because that is exactly how she felt when she saw him on the café floor.
“And I wanted the chance to apologise – and to give you the chance to do the same,” she goes on, “Over the phone you would not have believed me – you would have suspected a hidden agenda, wouldn’t you?
"I know you too well, Ed Charles!"
“You see, I know you too well, Ed Charles!   I’m sorry.”
"I sent that recording to Kelly!"
Ed agrees that he is also sorry, but then she bursts out laughing;  “You’re not going to believe what I did earlier!” she says, “I sent that recording to Kelly!”
She finds that quite hilarious
She laughs uncontrollably,
"You did what?"
while Ed’s anger is increasing.
Kelly is just playing the recording . . .
In the café, Kelly receives the text and plays the recording;  as she listens to Ed’s voice saying, “I thought I’d killed you!”
. . . which comes as a great shock
she is very shocked.
"She was trying to say goodbye, wasn't she?"
Colin describes to Garry, “She held my hand, tightly – it felt so special – she was trying to say goodbye, wasn’t she?”   Garry looks devastated,
"This is all my fault"
as Colin continues, “This is all my fault – I’ve been so stupid!”
"She knew exactly what she was doing"
Garry is quite aware that Britt knew exactly what she was doing;  “She would have found a way to escape!”
Colin tells Aaron to come to home now
Colin’s phone sounds, and he wonders what he is going to tell Aaron;  taking a deep breath he says, “I want you to come home, now.”
Kath cannot keep silent any longer
Mark reports that the party is starting to shape up now, but his mother cannot stay silent any longer,
"Debbie's having an affair!"
but reveals, “Debbie’s having an affair!”
"Not a word to Mark – right?"
At that moment in the back street, Debbie is getting into a taxi and warns the driver, “Not a word to Mark – right?”
"I'm on my way"
She gets out her phone and advises, “I’m on my way, now – no, he doesn’t suspect anything!”
"What's happened?"
Aaron returns home and demands, “What’s happened?”
"Your Mam has gone missing"
He is told that his mother has gone missing;  they went to the café, had a cup of tea, she went to the toilet and then she disappeared.
"Why would she do that?"
“Why would she do that?” Aaron enquires, “Have you argued?   She was getting better, and you said the doctors were happy!”
“They were – but it’s complicated,” Colin tells him, “It’s hard to know what’s going on in her head.”   Aaron wants to go and find her, but is dissuaded from doing so, as the police are searching for her.
"She's not safe on her own!"
He is worried that she is not safe on her own;  “I want her home!” he sobs,
They try to reassure him
and Garry gives him a hug.
"You and me – that's how it's supposed to be"
Out in the woods, Angela is insisting, “You and me – that’s how it’s supposed to be.”
"There is no 'you and me', Angela!"
Ed shouts, “There is no ‘you and me’!” but she pleads that they came to this valley together and they can leave together.   He can forget the last ten years and start again.
"That's what you always do – start again!"
Again he emphasises that he cannot do that but Angela protests, “You can – that’s what you’ve always done – start again!”   He is adamant that he is not going to do that any more.
"That Kelly's nothing special!"
Angela give her assessment of Kelly;  “She’s nothing special – I know you – I could give you what she gives you, and more!   I could give you everything!”
“You don’t know anything about me, Angela!” he snarls, “Perhaps you did at one time – but not any more!”
"Kelly's not going to forgive you for this!"
She assumes that there is no money in the bag;  “And I know you don’t believe for one second that Kelly’s going to forgive you for this – it’s over, Ed, accept it.
"Come with me – let Kelly go!"
“Come with me – just let Kelly go!”
Ed kisses her . . .
He moves forward and pushes her against a tree;  he kisses her, and she sighs, “I love you – I always have!
. . . then plunges his knife into her
As he confirms that he loves her too, his hand moves towards the knife in his pocket;  with one swift move, he stabs her and she gasps in pain.
As the life drains from Angela . . .
As she slowly subsides to the ground,
. . . Ed realises he is being watched . . .
he is aware that he is being watched;  “Kelly!” he shouts,
. . . by none other than Kelly
but she turns and runs from the scene, with Ed in hot pursuit.   “Kelly, wait!” he yells,
A surreal view of Angela's body
and aerial footage shows the inert Angela on the ground.
