Izzy's design for the Sali Mali costume
Izzy is sketching a design for the Sali Mali costume, which is admired by her mother;
"I'll talk to Beryl in the textiles department"
“I’ll talk to Beryl, textiles – perhaps the children can help during their lunch break,” Gaynor says, and reminds Izzy to clear it with the council.
"You seem to be over the mystery man"
“You seem to be over the disappointment of the mystery man last week,” she adds,
"No point in getting upset"
and Izzy replies that it is over, and there is no point in getting upset.   Her mother is giving Aaron a lift to school and is preparing a lunch box for him.
"Make sure you drop him off round the corner"
“Be careful, you don’t want to be accused of favouritism,” Izzy advises, “And drop him off round the corner – he won’t want to be seen getting out of the Head’s car.”
Gaynor leaves for school
Gaynor takes the costume design and leaves for school.
Izzy ignores Eifion's call
Izzy’s phone sounds, and she sees that it is a call from Eifion, so she ignores it.
Jaclyn want to get the washing-up done
At the breakfast table, Jaclyn is eager to get everything washed up;  “I haven’t got all day!   Guto, put that phone away.”   Tesni says that he is texting Luned, and asks if she will be coming to the cafe at lunchtime.
"Why don't you come here instead?"
Jaclyn wonders why they do not come to the house instead at lunchtime;  “Because we’re socialising,” replies Tesni, but her mother refuses to pay for her ‘socialising’.
Uncle Dylan is doling out the money
Dylan hands each of the children some money, warning that they must make it last all week.   Brenda gets up from the table, leaving Jaclyn to do all the work.
"What's wrong, Jac?"
Dylan senses that all is not well, but Jaclyn answers, “I’ve got a lot to do, that’s all.”
"I'll get another washing line from APD"
She definitely looks worried about something, as Gerwyn comes into the back door, reporting that he cannot fix the washing line, at will get another one from APD, as they are only a couple of pounds.
"Why can't he crash at one of his houses?
Seeing the duvet and pillows on the sofa, Gerwyn complains, “Why can’t he crash at one of his houses?   He’s got loads of them!”   Jaclyn points out that his mother has been there for months, but he maintains that is different;
"He's got thousands in the bank!"
“Your brother is young, and he’s got thousands in the bank!”
Dylan comes downstairs and catches the tail end of that conversation;
Gerwyn will not accept any money from him
“I couldn’t help overhearing you– take this for the welcome!”   He proffers a wad of notes, but Gerwyn refuses to accept his money and leaves the house.
"I don't want to cause trouble between you"
“I don’t want to cause trouble between you,” he tells his sister.
"I think I'm going to lose my job"
She maintains that he is the least of their problems;  “I think I’m going to lose my job.”
Ffion considers Rhys to be a bad influence on Arwen
At Cysgod y Glyn, Arwen is once again using her iPad, and being advised by Rhys;
"You're not allowed that before school"
Ffion is angry, and snarls, “Rhys, how many times do I have to tell you about that?      Arwen knows she’s not allowed on that before school – give it to me!”
Arwen obediently hands it over
Arwen obeys unquestioningly, and is told to fetch her school bag.
"I used to enjoy reading to Esther"
Rhys is pleased that it is something that they can do together, and he enjoys her company;  “I used to enjoy reading to Esther – Rala Rwdins [a Welsh story for young children about a friendly witch] is her favourite.”
"I know you miss her"
Ffion appreciates that he misses her and stresses that he is her brother;  “I’m sure that Esther does not understand.”
"I hope Dad will see sense before long"
Rhys is hopeful that his father will see sense before long, and Ffion places the iPad on a high shelf, out of Arwen’s reach.   “I’ll take you for a pint after work, to show that there are no hard feelings,” she says.
They kiss again
He is surprised that she is advocating they go out together in public;  she comes across and kisses him, as she leaves for school,
He always looks so infuriatingly self-satisfied
he looks pleased with himself, as usual.
Aaron loads the washing machine
When Gaynor goes to pick up Aaron, he is loading the washing machine, saying that Colin is busy and needs the help.
"I'm not happy with her being in that place"
She presents him with his packed lunch, and he says that he is not happy with his mother being in that place.   She assures him that it is for the best, for now,
"What if she never gets better, Miss?"
but he wonders, “What if she never gets better?”
Gaynor looks less than optimistic
Gaynor replies that she is bound to, but does not look very confident herself;  “If you want to talk to someone at school, we can arrange that,” but Aaron says that he is fine.
"Can you drop me off round the corner, Miss?"
He thanks her for the lift, but asks if he can be dropped off round the corner from school;
"Just what Izzy said!"
he does not want people to see him getting out of the Head’s car.
"The boss wants to move back to Spain"
Jaclyn explains to Dylan, “The boss wants to move back to Spain – the place has so much potential, if only it were run properly – there are no other tapas places here, and I’m a good cook.”   He asks if there is anything he can do,
"Could you buy the place, Dyl?"
and she suggests, “Buy the place?   We could run it as a family business, with Tesni and Guto serving.”   Dylan predicts that they would be arguing within two weeks.
Lazy Brenda wants someone to put the kettle on
Brenda comes in, demanding that Jaclyn put the kettle on, and advising that she has treated herself to packet of custard creams.   “Sorry, Brenda, I have to go to work,” is the reply,
"Will you do it, Dylan?"
so she prevails upon Dylan to do it instead.
"She's pretending everything is all right"
As he hobbles across the road, Hywel asks Anita about Kelly;  “She’s pretending that everything is all right – you know what she’s like,” is the reply.
"Will you be at Tapas today, Anita?"
Jaclyn is passing and enquires whether Anita will be at Tapas today.
"I've been neglecting it lately"
“I’ve been neglecting Tapas lately,” Anita tells Hywel, then they are accosted by Izzy,
Izzy promotes her world record attempt
promoting her Sali Mali world record attempt.   Anita treats her insistence, that Sali Mali is a national treasure and is 50 years old this week, with contempt;
"I think it's insensitive!"
“I think it’s very insensitive, considering what happened in the village last week,” she snarls, and walks away.
"Take no notice of her"
Hywel apologises on Anita’s behalf, and says she has had a hard time lately;  he will not be able to support the venture, as he is taking Esther to see Julie.   Then he receives a phone call from Eileen.
"I've been trying to phone you"
Izzy meets Eifion in the doorway of the shop, and he says that he has been trying to phone her;  she replies that she is busy
He walks away, despondently
and goes into the shop.
"Yes, I'm sure you must miss your family"
Outside Tapas, Anita is talking to the owner on the phone;  “I’m sure you miss your family,” and confirms to Jaclyn that he is definitely moving back to Spain.
"It's not the end of the world, is it?"
“But even if he does sell, it’s not the end of the world, is it?” she goes on.
"Not for you, perhaps"
Jaclyn snaps, “Not for you, perhaps – but you don’t have children.   Tes and Guto want to go to college – how will I pay for that?”
"My niece was almost killed last week!"
Anita angrily points out that two of her children have died and her niece was almost killed last week;  she does not want to hear any of Jaclyn’s self-pity.   She is now going to check on Kelly, and will be back for her shift at five o’clock.
Jaclyn sees Dylan on the phone . . .
As Anita hurries off past the bus stop, Jaclyn notices Dylan looking in that direction and speaking on his phone;
. . . and takes this as an encouraging sign
she looks optimistic.
"Another pint, Gerwyn?"
Then he goes into the Deri, and offers to buy Gerwyn another pint;  “I just want to say thank you for letting me stay at number 10,” he says, and Gerwyn agrees to have a half.
"I've booked a table at Tapas tonight"
“I’ve booked a table for us at Tapas tonight – Jaclyn deserves a treat, don’t you think?”
"It won't be much of a treat – she's the chef!"
Gerwyn doubts that it will be much of a treat, as she is the chef.
“If she can’t have the night off, we’ll go to her –
"It's obvious something's worrying her"
“it’s obvious that something is worrying her,” Dylan tells him, “I’ll see you there around five – dress smartly.”
Izzy sees the dejected Eifion
Izzy comes in and sees Eifion looking very dejected;
"Can I put up one of these?"
she asks Dan if she can put up one of her posters,
Gwen has some time off from the café
and then goes to talk to Eifion.
"You've got time now, have you?"
“You’ve got time now, have you?” he comments,
"Sorry for the way I reacted"
and she is sorry for the way she reacted last week.   “You can’t handle the fact I’ve been with men,” he shrugs, but she replies that one of her old boyfriends was bisexual.
"Scott was a very complex person"
“Scott was a very complex person,” she says,
"What – the farmhand at Penrhewl who raped Macs White?"
and Eifion realises she is speaking of the old farmhand at Penrhewl who raped Macs White.
“Do you think I’m like Scott?” he demands, “It sounds like it!”
"You're a stubborn prat!"
Izzy exclaims that she is not going to waste time on him, describing him as a ‘stubborn prat,’
Not the reaction he hoped for
and warning him to stay out of her way.
Guto fancies some pickled onions
Guto is preparing himself a snack, which includes pickled onions;
"Is that a good idea if you're seeing Luned?"
Tesni remarks, “Is that a good idea if you’re seeing Luned tonight?   I’m just trying to help, because you don’t have a clue.”
"We're going to Tapas for dinner"
Dylan comes in and informs them they are going to Tapas for dinner.
Brenda is in favour, as long as she is not paying
Brenda makes sure that he is paying before she agrees to go;  “Do you want to invite Luned?” he asks Guto, as he would love to meet her,
"No chance!"
but Guto realises that she would only get interrogated, and does not want that.
"Eileen wanted me to be a pallbearer"
Hywel joins Eifion in the Deri, and advises him, “Eileen phoned me, to ask if I’d be a pallbearer for Angela – she said that you’re doing it as well.
"She says Angela is being buried with Courtney"
“The problem is, I can’t – but she says Angela is being buried with Courtney.
"I wonder how Jim feels about that"
“I was wondering how Jim feels about that – and how Courtney herself would feel.   Courtney didn’t think much of her by the end –
"Angela was not a pleasant person"
“to be honest, Angela was not a pleasant person, was she?”
"She was good enough for you to sleep with!"
Eileen smiles and reminds him, “She was good enough for you to sleep with!   Whatever Angela did, she didn’t deserve to be murdered – any more than than Sheryl.
"Two exes in less than a year – makes you think, doesn't it?"
“Two exes in less than a year – it makes you think, doesn’t it?”
Ffion has chosen a bad time
He walks away, leaving Hywel in an atrocious mood, and at this inauspicious moment Ffion and Rhys come in;
"What do you want?"
“What do you want?” Hywel snarls,
"Isn't it time you forgave Rhys?"
and Ffion maintains that it is time that he forgave Rhys, as he is missing Esther terribly.   “Has he lost his tongue as well, then?” sneers Hywel, “He’s got Arwen now, anyway.”
When Ffion accuses him of being pathetic,
Hywel launches into a tirade against her
he demands, “Have you looked in the mirror lately?   You need to sort yourself out – find a tidy bloke instead of two murderers, your cousin and your ex-husband’s son!”
Ffion is shocked . . .
Ffion impulsively turns to Rhys
. . . and then gives Rhys a passionate kiss . . .
and kisses him passionately, just as Gaynor has come in;
. . . much to Gaynor's displeasure
she looks outraged, as Hywel staggers away.
"I was right – he is moving back to Spain"
Dylan orders the food from Jaclyn at Tapas, and she tells him, “I was right about the boss – he is moving back to Spain,” and he says that she will have to tell Gerwyn, it is not fair to keep things from him.
"I think I saw the new owner outside earlier"
She adds, “I might not have to, because I think I saw the new owner outside earlier – come on, Dyl, I saw you.”   Anita arrives, and Dylan enquires about Kelly.
"She's alive, and I don't know how to repay you"
“She’s alive, thanks to you, and I don’t know how to repay you,” says Anita.   Dylan remarks that she could let Jac join them for their family meal;  all the food has been prepared, and there are no more bookings.
Anita gets an unexpected kiss
Anita agrees, and Dylan gives her a kiss.
"I'm surprised you went so public!"
Rhys is surprised that Ffion went so public, and as soon as he visits the toilet,
"What do you think you're doing with Rhys?"
Gaynor comes over to remonstrate with her.   “What do you think you’re doing with Rhys?” she demands, “It’s not appropriate behaviour for a teacher”   Ffion cannot understand why, as they are not at school, but she is told,
"You kissed him in front of everyone!"
“It’s Rhys – and you kissed him in front of everyone!”
"What's the matter?   Jealous?"
Ffion enquires, “Is this jealousy?” and Gaynor growls that she should not be so disgusting and points out they have both been his step mother;  she stalks off.
"That snogging looked serious"
Ffion goes to the bar, where Eifion remarks, “You look quite serious to me, snogging in front of everyone,” but she insists that she was only winding Hywel up, and they are not serious.
"You don't want to break his heart, do you?"
“Young guys like that are the worst for falling in love – just be careful – you don’t want to break his heart, do you?”
"This bottle is 'corked'!"
On tasting another bottle of wine, Dylan pronounces it ‘corked’, and Anita will fetch another bottle,
"I'm sure I have drunk worse!"
but Brenda is eager to drink the first one, confident that she has drunk worse.
Jaclyn asks Guto when they are going to meet Luned,
Guto is becoming tired of these questions
and he makes no reply;  it is clear that Anita is becoming rather angry with Brenda and her remarks.
"Gerwyn can't see what's going on under his nose"
Dylan points out that Gerwyn cannot see what is going on under his nose,
"What?"
and Jaclyn tries to change the subject.
Hywel is in a foul mood . . .
Hywel arrives home in a terrible temper;
. . . pacing – no, staggering – around . . .
after staggering around, feeling sorry for himself,
. . . and is about to fling his crutch across the room
he throws his crutch across the floor.
Dylan will settle up
Brenda says that she has enjoyed their meal, and Dylan will sort out the bill, although Gerwyn wants to pay for his own family.
Gerwyn cannot help but notice all those £20 notes
As Dylan peels off a number of £20 notes, Jaclyn comments that it is a nice place, and that she knows that it has been rather quiet this evening, but it gets busy with visitors during the holidays.
"Sorry, I'm not interested in restaurants"
“Sorry, but I’m not interested in restaurants,” he replies, “I have to go back to Swansea, but I don’t want a fuss –
"Say goodbye to the kids for me"
“say goodbye to the kids for me, and keep the change!”
"What's going on, Jac?"
Gerwyn comes over and demands what is going on;  “I was hoping Dylan would buy the place, but he refused,” Jaclyn tells him,
"I'm going to lose my job"
“This place is being sold, and I’m going to lose my job!”
Rhys has prepared salad, but Ffion is not hungry
Ffion has put Arwen to bed, and informs Rhys that she is not very hungry;  “We have to celebrate!” he insists,
"You've shown you're serious about us"
“You’ve shown that you’re serious about us – we don’t have to hide any more.   I’ve never been so happy, Ffi!
"I think I'm falling in love with you!"
“I think I’m falling in love with you!”
This is not what Ffion wanted
Ffion tries to put on a brave face, and then they are interrupted by the pinging of the microwave;  her look changes to one of concern.
